Vacation splurges

By TheAngelForever | May 29, 2009

Admit it, when you go on vacation you often splurge. Whether you splurge on things you do, items you buy, or food you eat. When we recently went to Disney World I was definitely guilty of this. We opted to do the Disney Dining Plan (DDP). This meant that we paid a set price for each day and were given a snack credit (could be soda, ice cream, pretzel, pastry or countless other items), counter service meal credit (entree, drink and dessert), and table service meal credit (beverage that could be soda/smoothie/milk shake, entree and of course dessert) for each day.

We managed to use most of our snack credits for breakfast and only had to pay for gratuities on the table service meal. Let me tell you, it is nice not to think about the price of food while away. Of course, as nice as it is not to think about the money aspect, the calories is a different story. You know that desserts twice a day and eating at buffets can be a dangerous thing. I fully admit that I ate what I wanted, not like a piggy, and did not worry. I wanted to fully enjoy our first major vacation in over six years and part of that at Disney is the dining.

May I present you with one of my favorite goodies from the trip. I actually had this as breakfast one morning (learned that from my father thanks):

Pop Century Resort Tie Dye Cheesecake

That amazing looking item above is the Tie Dye Cheesecake at the Pop Century Resort in Walt Disney World. If you would like a closer look where you can see the red velvet cake layer on the bottom of the colorful cheesecake here it is:

Check out the layers

Luckily all of the walking and sweating in the 90+ degree heat allowed me the pleasure of losing weight even while eating these delicious items. Most people are not so lucky when they go to Disney, so I know I was.

My question for this week:

When you go on a big vacation do you splurge on something? If you do what types of items are we talking about?

    Umm… wow. That looks incredible!

We don’t really vacation unless it is to see my wife’s family, and my MIL will not let me splurge. :o) This summer we are making a road trip from DC to Iowa, so I’m sure we’ll do something out of the ordinary then.

That cheesecake looks amazing, I have never seen anything like it. I will spend extra money on touristy stuff like shirts with the city name on them.

That looks so good! If we splurge on vacation it is usually on the hotel (for instance when we went to Disneyland we stayed at a Disneyland hotel rather than a more inexpensive one that was further away). But we definitely enjoy the food too!! ;-)

That looks so good, it would be a bit sweet for me for breakfast but still looked good.

We tend to splurge on expensive restaurants. We never eat out so when on vacation it is so great to enjoy new foods and nice places.

The last one we went on was our Disney Cruise 3 yrs ago & you betcha I ate what I wanted! Like you though we did a fair amount of walking & playing & came back a little lighter because the tropics had more than a little higher humidity levels than our home area did.

If I splurge it’s on something like jewelery or framed artwork. Something that is timeless and useful. No tee-shirts for me!

When my hubby and I go to the Carribean (we go every other year) we buy jewelry. He bought a watch last time and I got a really pretty necklace. It’s a little gift to ourselves :-)

I usually splurge on the kids more than anything. We try not to go out to eat too much because that costs the most. We’ll bring a cooler and eat picnic-style as much as possible. I also love to visit tourist traps, so that’s kind of a splurge too!
