Stop Distracted Driving

By TheAngelForever | July 8, 2011

Recently, something has really been bothering me. I have seen a lot of other drivers in their cars with cell phone to their ears and/or texting. They are not stopped at lights. No, they are driving. Not only is this dangerous, but illegal in New York State. Yes, it is illegal to text while driving and you must have a hands free device IF you talk on your cell phone.

Accidents happen with normal distractions and circumstances. We don’t need other items to be there. I can not imagine any call or text being so important that your life or another person’s is worth it. Of course, if you must, pull your car over and do what you need in a safe manner.

Sorry, I just had to vent since I have been seeing more and more people in their cars doing this. So to lighten it up a bit and send home the message I give you this PSA message from Cars 2

So my question to you this week:

Does the state that you live in have laws about talking on the cell phone or texting while driving? What do you think about laws like the ones we have in NYS?

Nobody asked me to write this post, it is just something that has been on my mind for a while and I wanted to hear what others were thinking about the subject.

Pssst . . . be sure to stop by TechyDad’s Outback Steakhouse $45 giveaway.

In TX there is no Texting while driving and then no talking on the phone in school zones only.

They do but, try to enforce them. There are people who cannot even talk and drive at the same time.

    Have a great Friday!

We have laws like that too. Sad that there has to be a law for something that just makes sense.

The laws here aren’t as strict, but I think they should be. It makes me crazy to see people text and drive. Especially when I have kids in the car!

We do have a state law in WA against texting and talking on the phone. You would be amazed at how many people still do it despite the chance of a ticket.

I set an example for my kids…no cell phone talking or texting in the car. I explain how distracting it can be.

    I agree with you.
I don’t know the laws in my state about it but I don’t do it. It’s jsut like drunk driving and maybe even worse.

I definitely need to look up the laws in my state on it.

My kids wanted to watch this over and over

We have the laws in our State about no talking on cell phones (unless it’s hands-free) and no texting while driving…now if only those laws would actually be enforced!

It sounds like the laws out here in CA match yours.

Yes, Hawaii has a law against texting and cell phone talking while driving. As inconvenient as it is, I’m glad it’s now a law!

not only does MA have laws against it, but junior operators can’t even use a cell phone with a hands free device while driving.
