My question this week is inspired by our visit to the zoo last Friday.

What is your favorite animal and why?

Gorgeous Giraffes

Our family is quite partial to the giraffe. I am quite fascinated with the giraffe’s long body and neck. It is amazing to watch these animals move with such ease given their size. Another favorite for me is the cockatoo. Growing up we had pet birds and eventually decided to get a parrot and then a second. We had a sweet cockatoo named Moose who passed away almost 4 years ago and saved NHL’s life.

More photos from our zoo visit and others from last weekend coming soon. The week has been crazy and I have not had time to get them ready to blog.

I’m with you, I have always loved the giraffe. I even have a 2 foot tall one in my living room. A few minutes from our Florida home is Lion Country Safari. As we drive through, the giraffes come right up to the car. They don’t bend over and look in but their stature and grace as they move about is breathtaking.

  • Amy says:

I am a HUGE fan of the giraffe! They just fascinate me so much. I love going to Binder Park Zoo in Michigan and feeding them too! Amazing creatures!

  • mine is the tiger. i don’t know why or how long i’ve had this fascination, but i could sit and watch them all day. i think they are beautiful animals.

    second would be polar bears.

  • Summer says:

It’s a toss up between Gorillas and Octopi. Why? They both fascinated me as a kid and I still love them. I did a science fair report on the Octopus in sixth grade and I’ve been collecting stuffed gorillas and monkeys for years.

  • It’s hard for me to decide between the Snow Lepoards, or the White Tigers. I can sit and watch them all day. What beautiful animals they are.

  • Shawna says:

I love tropical fish (and even have a tattoo of one!). Their beautiful colors, fluid grace, mindless wandering from place to place . . . .ahh.

Although I’ve also always liked giraffes. Shortly after moving to Pittsburgh at the age of 18 and out on my own for the first time, I was kind of nervous and unsure about what direction my life was going. I went to the Zoo to wander around and there was a giraffe there who shared my birthday. I thought it was a sign that I was meant to be here. Call me crazy, but I stayed and it all worked out!

  • Giraffes are beautiful. I remember how sad I was when I brought my son to the zoo and found out that the giraffe has passed away. Our zoo has yet to replace it.

I love elephants. They are magnificent creatures.

  • Angie says:

My all time favorite animal would be the dolphin. I would also be torn between a dog, cat, Blue & Gold Macaw and turtle. We have all three.

  • Lori says:

I am partial to the camel. I feel it is an often misunderstood animal. I actually have 3 camel tattoos.

My favorite animals are cats . . . all kinds and all sizes!
