Grilling Goodness – Take 12

GoldenGoodness

1. What’s one of the best things you’ve seen lately? – Today JSL was so happy that he was walking around the house singing "happy, happy, happy"  He loves having all of us home with him. Rude awakening in a week when big brother goes back to school.

2. Has Spring brought you something you don’t like? – Not a fan of insects. The dirt bees are outside and not looking forward to more flying, creeping bugs.

3. What kind of sandwiches do you like? – Very into hummus sandwiches on Arnold’s sandwich things with some Fiber One cereal on top. Don’t judge, it is filling, delicious and healthy for me.

4. Do you carry GermX with you at all times? – No, I honestly think that there are too many antibacterial products on the market. Part of our problem these days is we kill off the normal flora that need to be on us to make us healthy.

5. Does each person in your house have their own hamper or do you have a central hamper for everyone? – We have two hampers – one for the kids and one for us.

6. How often do you balance your checkbook? – Used to be really good with this. I watch the statements carefully, but thanks to having kids I have not been good in about six years now of the paper balancing.

7. What’s the hardest thing you’ve done lately? –  Transforming our kitchen for Passover and making two Seders. It was a challenge with everything else going on. My mind needs to shift soon to making lists of things to do for Disney World.

8. Are you a texter? – No, we do not have a plan with unlimited texting. Hubby and I use Twitter during the day when at home/work. I have done a text or two from time to time. I told people I was in labor via text almost two years ago.

LemonHead Kidz hair accessories

As the mom of two little boys, I never get to buy cute little bows and accessories for their hair. Thanks to this, I love to get them for myself.  Since I have really thick hair, I often have trouble finding products that work for me. I can not use the hard plastic headbands because they give me a headache. I love fabric ones, but sometimes they are too big and fall off, and other times not big enough. Due to this, I am always looking for new and exciting things to try.

Thanks to The Family Review Network, I recently received some items from an exciting company called LemonHead Apparel LLC.

LemonHead carries two products. The first are called Clipeez and they come in a wide variety of colors and styles. They have a patent pending, non-slip design that is made to stay on even the little pieces of hair. Here is what their website has to say about their creation:

Our Hairclips are like no other, they are designed to stay put – even on super fine hair.  We don’t use magnets/hot glue and NOTHING squeezed out of a bottle like silicone or rubber.  Our premium patented GRIPSTRIP is made of a unique reliable material that is identical in every clip – that means you are getting the same feature every single time!!!  We have also patented several processes to make the Clipeez and attach embelishments reliably to our Clipeez that is so secure it impresses every time.  Our competitors have bought our clips to take them appart, they’re that good! We have a wide range of embelishments from flowers to bows and butterflies.  Take a look, they’re great for any age and to accessorize our Bandeez Headbands.

The Clipeez that I received is absolultely gorgeous. The proud new owner is goign to be my niece. I can not wait to capture a photo of her wearing the cute Clipeez in her hair.

The other product made by LemonHead are the Bandeez Headband. The Bandeez have a patent  pending design that is made to stay put in the hair of infants to Moms. The Bandeez Headband come in three different ribbon widths and a multitude of different designs. Here are more facts about the Bandeez:

Our Bandeez Headbands were originaly designed for our two-year-old.  She kept losing her headband because it slipped off.  After losing so many headbands and having to readjust them all the time we decided to experiment on our own and came up with Bandeez.  Our headbands are fully adjustable, they fit infants to moms on-the-go.  They’re designed to not slip or slide on heads of any size.  Tweens & Teens love our headbands because we have so many different patterns and they can create their own styles.  We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!!

When I first saw the Bandeez that I was sent, I have to admit that I was skeptical. I could not imagine how this was going to work in my extremely thick hair. I am happy to report that it worked very well. The little grippers that are on the ribbon do a fabulous job keeping the Bandeez exactly where you put it. I never once felt like my headband was slipping out of my hair. The adjustable back was easy to tighten so it felt secure and set in my hair. Here is a photo of my camera while I was wearing my Bandeez:

Please excuse the frizz

I will definitely be buying some more Bandeez for myself. I will probably buy the thickest band size and some of the fun and wild colors. I know that I will also purchase Clipeez when I need some hair accessories for little girl gifts. As a parent, it is great to know that both items are sturdy and made of safe materials.

Exercising up a storm

This week I have really been kicking it into high gear with my work outs. I feel energized after I do them, and really want to be in better shape when we head to Disney World. I know that although I may not be close to my goal weight, I will be able to walk more while at Disney and keep up my energy levels.

This week I have "walked" 19.5 miles since Sunday, not including today. All of this has been by using one of my Leslie Sansone walk at home DVDs. Here is the week in review.

Sunday (3 miles) – While the boys went outside to play I did my new 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk. It is a "power walk" DVD and uses handweights. It is a fast paced 45 minute work out that really works all your muscles, strengthens your core, and makes you sweat!

3 Mile Weight Loss Walk

Monday (5 miles) – I felt ambitious while the little guy was napping. I put in the 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk. This DVD includes five 12 minute miles that get your heart pumping, your body moving and fat blasted (73 minutes total). It went by really quickly and I felt energized. My only complaint is that I should have stopped to retie my sneaker. Apparently it was rubbing my poor foot the wrong way. I was limping thanks to a blister trying to form.

5 Mile Fat Burning Walk

Tuesday (3.5 miles) – JSL was up and did not want to nap. Mistake #1 I tried to do the 30 Day Shred first.  I just can not do that in our little space and if I do try it again need to figure out what I can do to replace Jillian’s love for push ups. With my wrist injury those are just not possible. The plan was to do the DVD from Sunday and do two of the fast second mile for a total of 4 miles. I started the DVD after about eight minutes of the Shred. The little guy let me get into the start of the fast 2nd mile when he started to flip out. One thing I can not do is walk with Leslie Sansone with a 22 month old on my shins. So I stopped cold turkey and put JSL down for a nap. Once he was asleep I put in the DVD from Monday and did 2 miles with that.

Wednesday (5 miles) – I wanted to target some different muscles. With JSL watching me the entire 82 minutes, I did the entire 5 Day Slim Down DVD. Mile 1 is the Classic Walk, Mile 2 Sculpts your arms, Mile 3 Slims your legs (psycho squats and lunges galore), Mile 4 Trim you tummy with lots of focus on the core, and Mile 5 speed walk. I felt very wobbly after mile 3 thanks to the intensity of the moves, but pushed on. Let me tell you, Thursday I was feeling the burn. My arms, legs and shoulders ached, but in a good sort of way.

5 Day Slim Down

Thursday (3 miles) –  The boys were kicked out of the house to play outside with JL so I could do the Walk Away Your Waistline DVD (48 minutes). I opted to use the Walk Belt and it helped to stretch my arm muscles from the aches that I had from the previous day.

Leslie Sansone - Walk at Home

Today – Not sure what I am going to do yet. Since it is already late, I will probably opt for a quick 3 mile walk. I am also excited to check out the new Leslie Sansone DVDs that are being released at Target. They come with boosters that can be used. There is one in particular that I have my eye on.

So what have you been up to this week in the world of exercise?

Grilling Goodness – Take 11

GoldenGoodness

1. Do you prefer to write with pen or pencil? – Typically pen. When I was teaching I used a lot of different ink colors for correcting. I was also a stickler for using pencils when doing math and lesson planning.

2. What was off limits to you growing up that you do all the time now? – The only thing I can think of is talking on the phone late or going on the computer when I wanted to. Our computer was on the other side of my brother’s room (had to walk through it) and it caused some issues.

3. What is the age difference between you and your spouse? – Hubby is about 8 months older than me.

4. Did you hurt yourself in anyway this week? – Yes, my finger has a giant gash in it from when I put it in my son’s mouth during his first febrile seizure of the weekend.

5. Do you like wallpaper enough to hang it in your home? – No, we took it all down in the house except for the bathroom upstairs. That will happen one day down the road.

6. What do you need to do that you’ve been putting off? – Need to take kindergarten kid back to the doctor for his second Hep A shot. We went a few weeks ago and they were out of it and never called (we had an appointment). Little does my son know, it will happen today after his dentist appointment.

7. What did you do this week that you wish you hadn’t? – I wish I never had to watch my son have a febrile seizure two times. The first was the worst when we did not realize what was going on and thought he was choking as he turned blue. Also wish I did not have to go by ambulance to the ER. Had I thought about it I would have picked another hospital because of how pathetic the care was once again at the so called "better" pediatric location.

8. Did anything keep you up late this week? – Prior to last night, I probably could have counted all of the hours I slept this week on my two hands and maybe one foot. Nothing like waking every two hours to fight a fever to try to avoid a third febrile seizure for the week in your little one.

Grilling Goodness – Take 10

GoldenGoodness

1. Are you competitive? – Not really. That is probably the reason I do not really like WiiFit. So looking forward to the new game that is coming out to use with it. Looks more like a real workout with a trainer.

2. What do you most often eat for breakfast?
– Oatmeal these days. Very filling and keeps me going. Sometimes I put raisins in, but not always worth the points.

3. Do you have a ‘raggidy’ piece of furniture?
– We have some older hand-me-down pieces, but nothing that is too bad.

4. What do you wash your face with?
– Before having kids I used to use a whole series of things. Now I just wash my face in the shower. No time to bother with anything exciting.

5. What colors does Spring make you want to wear?
– More bright and colorful things like green and turquoise.

6. Do you like working your flower beds?
– NO! I hate getting into the dirt and deal with bugs and other critters.

7. What is something you want that you’ve never had?
– A new house. It would be so nice not to have to worry about all of the problems that crop up with an older house. Not only are there things that get old and stop working, but you have to deal with fixing mistakes that previous owners have done. *sigh*

8. How many miles do you have on your car?
– We have had my car for just under six years and it has a little over 44K. Hubby’s new car has about 500 miles!
