Frosty for Father’s Day

Growing up, I remember my Nana picking me up and taking me out for rides in her car. We would play music and just ride for hours. On the way home, we would always stop for something special. That treat was almost always a Frosty from Wendy’s. It was special sitting there in the car, scooping the thick chocolate  dessert and waiting for it to be ready to drink with a straw. Most of the time, we were too quick gobbling it up with our spoons to ever need our straws. I have continued this tradition with my boys. Both of them love to head out with me and we often will stop at Wendy’s for a special outing. Of course, when at Wendy’s we have to get a Frosty.

Frosty

Over the past three years, Wendy’s has started a tradition on Father’s Day weekend. They have what they call Father’s Day Frosty Weekend where they donate 50 cents from each Frosty sale to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Once again this Father’s Day weekend (June 20-21), they will be holding this event at all Wendy’s. The money that is raised will go to the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program. This fund assists full-time adoption recruiters at local agencies across the United States. These recruiters them help to pair up parents with foster care children that need loving homes.

Dave Thomas Foundation For Adoption

Please join our family and head to Wendy’s this Father’s Day weekend to help a great cause. While you are enjoying your tasty Frosty, you will know that you are helping children to find a home of their own. You can also stop by your local Wendy’s and buy a Frosty Pinup for $1 at any time to help Dave’s charity.

Another fun way to involve your kids while helping out is to have  them make a Father’s Day eCard on FrostyCard.com. Wendy’s will donate an additional 25 cents to the Dave Thomas Foundation for each card that is sent. The best part is that kids can be creative with them and add on coupons for "taking out the trash" or "washing the car" with the cards for Dad. There are also cards that are designed by celebrities or you can design your own.

Do not forget, you can pick from any of the Frosty menu items. So which will you pick, an Original Frosty, Frosty Shake, Frosty Float, or a new Twisted Frosty?

Thanks to Mom Central for introducing my family to this fabulous event. Now be sure to mark Father’s Day Frosty Weekend on your calendar like I did!

Field Day 2009

Dear NHL,

Yesterday was your first experience at a Field Day. It was a little bit crazy, but lots of fun. The two kindergarten classes were together while the first and second graders were on the other side of the field. JSL and I watched you with the rest of the kids. We were so proud of you when you won the second place ribbon for the bean bag toss. You were amazing when you did the standing long jump. Who knew you were able to leap like a big frog?! Then you were in the second group of racers for the run across the big field. We watched as you easily flew across the field for the first place ribbon.

Field Day 2009

Then last night you were so tired at the late dinner for Nana’s birthday. You sat next to Mimi showing her how you write, thanks to Aunt M’s crayons and Aunt S having paper. You did not understand a fancy restaurant and waiting so long for food. When the meal was over and we finally got into the car after the long day you were tired. When we asked you said you were falling asleep. Sure enough before we arrived home you were sleeping in your booster seat.

Tired after a BIG day

Love,

Mommy

A Big Birthday for Mom

My mother has always been there for me. Whether it was when I was a little girl, a teenager confused with life, college student trying to follow her dreams, or a new wife and mother,  Mom has always been right there or a simple phone call away. Last year, I mentioned that she will always be my hero. My mother was unselfish and sacrificed a lot  for her children because she wanted what was best for us. Still, there is more that comes to mind as I sit here with tears streaming down my cheeks. Once again on her birthday, I recall how my mother saved my little guy by breathing life back into JSL on that terrible night in February 2008.

Mom has shown me how to be an advocate for myself and my family. Mom stayed home with my younger brother and me when we were growing up. She helped to arrange play groups with friends, take me to endless swim lessons, watch at softball games, and was the leader of my Girl Scout troop. My mother was the one that always stood up for us when she knew there was something wrong at school or beyond. She made sure that each vacation we went on had something educational involved and always stopped to tell us the proper names of everything scientific (and I do mean EVERYTHING).

Today my mother is celebrating a big birthday. Recently, we have been talking about this milestone in her young life. You see, both my Nana and Papa passed away quite young. I think this birthday is hitting her hard and while I am typing this it is having a similar feelings. Just thinking too much makes my brain and heart hurt.

For this Aloha Friday please send a message to my mother on her special day in the comments. Thanks!

Nana and Chef Mickey

Dear Mom,

Happy Birthday! Please know that no matter how we may disagree from time to time, I love you with all of my heart. You have given so much to me and I owe you for all that you have taught me. We are all going to continue to work together, as a family, so we have many more fun filled years with you. I want and need you to be there for all of us. The boys constantly talk about seeing Nana and spending time with you. It was so wonderful to see you and Dad with us and so happy at Disney World. It brought back so many wonderful memories from our Disney adventures when I was little. We will have many more fabulous memories, I promise you. Thank you for being such a great mother and Nana. I love you <3

Energizer Rechargeable Family Charger

Have you been to a toy store lately? As the mother of two little boys, I have learned a huge lesson. That lesson is that there are more toys these day that require batteries than do not. As you all know, batteries are not inexpensive these day. With budgets tight it can be tough to constantly buy more batteries. That is where rechargeable batteries fit in. You buy them one time and can use them over and over again with the use of the charger.

Over the years we have had at least two different chargers for batteries. The first one that we bought did not work very well. We bought a second one that was able to charge AA and AAA batteries. This was perfect since we could use them for digital cameras, kid toys and MP3 players. The problem we had was the charger would not work properly. Every time we would charge the batteries, they would deplete their charge before we used them in an item (most of the time in less than 2 weeks). It became quite frustrating to say the least. Another problem we had was we wanted something other than AA and AAA batteries. We had looked for quite some time and could not locate a charger that would expand on these two sizes for a reasonable price.

We were lucky and recently and had the opportunity to try the Energizer Rechargeable Family Charger. This product was just what we were looking for. It is able to charge AA, AAA, C, D and 9V batteries.

Facts about the Family Charger:

  • Energizer rechargeable batteries hold their charge for up to 6 months
  • Energizer NiMH AA batteries last up to four times longer in digital cameras
  • Able to be charged hundreds of times
  • LED Charge indicator is easy to read
  • Only charges when the unit’s lid is closed, safety feature
  • Energy Star certified NiMH battery charger that meets the criteria set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and US Department of Energy
  • Quick charging times (AA 3-6 hours, AAA 3-6 hours, C/D 3 hours, 9V 7 hours)
  • MSRP $29.99

Energizer Rechargeable Family Charger 2

Energizer now makes 9 different chargers. They even have a place on their website to help you figure out what is the best choice for your needs. They are also offering a $5.00 rebate on the purchase of chargers that you can find here.

Our thoughts on the EnergizerFamily Charger:

We were pleasantly surprised by the simplicity of the Family Charger. It was quick and easy to set up and simple to use. In just a few short hours our batteries were ready to go into toys, cameras and other items that needed fuel thanks to dying battery syndrome. What my husband and I liked the most was we were able to charge batteries in advance and did not have to worry about the charge being depleted. The new technology in the Energizer rechargeable batteries makes them hold their charge for six months, even when they are not in use. This was a huge problem for us in the past. I would charge a bunch of AA batteries for my digital camera and go on vacation. Within the week, or less, the batteries that were freshly charged would have no power in them. This was a huge problem that we had with other brands of rechargeable batteries. The best part for us,  we now have a charger that will allow us to use rechargeables for items that take not only AA and AAA, but also C, D and 9V. This is great for our budget and the environment too!

Thanks to Energizer and Linsey (Energizer’s Online Brand Advocate) for this wonderful review opportunity.
