A blast from my hockey past

Admit it, there are times that people are shocked to learn something about you. Most people know that I started off in college doing one thing and then switched to follow my dream of teaching. What people may not know is that for several years I had season tickets for our local hockey team.

Yes, I was a huge hockey fan.  Not only did I have season tickets, I had fabulous seats. I sat behind the home team’s bench, just a few rows back on center ice. My seat was so close that I could actually hear the players and coaches on the benches. I would travel around with friends to games that were near and some that were very, very far away. I even went to NHL training camp several times during the fall.

At one point, our team had a hockey jersey auction. I bid on a game worn jersey of my favorite player. I won and wore it for games from that point on. Now that same hockey jersey sits in my closet. I actually took the jersey out the other day and wore it for Purim. Funny thing, it felt amazing. It reminded me of those fun days back when I went to games to escape from the stress of college. Best of all, it was cozy and warm. Perhaps I need to take the jersey and my hubby and boys to a hockey game one day soon.

Guess who?!

So my question this week is:

What is something from your early adult years that someone may be shocked to learn about?

Web woes and workouts

You may, or may not have noticed that my blog was down for twenty hours Tuesday into Wednesday. It was a very frustrating time for JL, myself and even more so the hosting company for our websites. We just switched our websites to a new hosting location a few weeks ago. After years with one place, the service had declined significantly and the down time kept increasing.

We were floored when this happened so soon after switching. The difference here was the new hosting company was on top of everything. They were in constant communication with JL and the other people that had their websites on this server. In the end, the down time was huge. However, the customer service thus far has been incredible.

Things are still not 100% fixed. Comments are being moderated that had not in the past. In addition to that, the e-mail notifications of comments are not working at all. This means that I have to go to the control panel of my blog to retrieve comments and reply back to people. I am slowly catching up with this.

On a brighter note, I am still working out every day. Since I started I only took Sunday off. Tuesday while upset about the down website, I did some research online for more Leslie Sansone DVDs. I went to Best Buys website and found that they were on sale. It was great that I could also track down whether or not the local store had the DVD that I wanted in question. When I saw that they had several in stock I packed JSL up and we went to the mall.

When I arrived there nothing was labeled with sale prices. I grabbed two of the DVDs that were interesting to me and went to the register. Both of the DVDs scanned for $6.49 each! Needless to say I now own two new Leslie Sansone workouts.

The workout that I was most interested in was the 5 Mile Slim Down. It had glowing reviews online. Fitness Magazine also voted this DVD as one the best for 2009. I had wanted this from the start , but could not find it locally before this. I immediately picked it up.

5 Day Slim Down

Yesterday JSL asked me to "keek" = kick. He saw the DVD and wanted to walk and kick with me. So I put it on. I did about an hour which got me through mile 1, 2 and 3. All I can say is WOW! The third mile really worked out the legs with lunges and other more challenging moves, but I loved it. Oh my goodness, did I just say that?!  What I really liked about this DVD was it was Leslie Sansone alone. She talked you through the workout and was not chatting it up with other people. It was a nice change from the other DVDs that I have tried.

The other DVD that they had was another 5 mile workout. Thanks to the price it was a great time to buy it. Since I have been using them and would like variation it seemed like the perfect opportunity.

5 Mile Fat Burning Walk

I have not tried this one yet, but it looks great. I will update more when I have actually worked out with it.

Seriously, where is the real me?! Or is this the real me?  Maybe what I needed was to find the right workout that made me feel like I could do it. Leslie Sansone makes me confident about doing the workout. After I am done I feel energized and wonder when I will have time to do it again. This is new to me. I am the girl that used to cringe and hate PE in school. Now I look forward to sweating because I know that it means I am getting a good workout. Sure, I hope that it will help me to drop some pounds. However, more important is that with the assistance of the Leslie Sansone Walk at Home DVDs I am getting my heart and the rest of my body back into shape. This will help me to be a better wife, mother and person in general. A perk is I am also going to be ready for the walking at Disney World in a few months.

P.S. – Please note that the review of the Leslie Sansone DVDs is not being sponsored by anyone. This is a product that I found on my own (with some research), paid for the DVDs myself and highly recommend.

Boost Kid Essentials

As a parent, I always worry about my children getting enough fruits and vegetables in their diets. My husband and I have gone out of our way with different cook books to try to sneak them into our meals at times. Unfortunately, doing that is not always practical.

This worry was amplified a few months back when I took my youngest for his 18 month well check up. JSL is a picky eater to say the least. There are days that he will barely eat anything. The exception to the rule would be cheese. Most days I can get him to eat at least that once during the day. Of course, a diet of only cheese does not fulfill the daily recommended amounts of vitamins and other important nutrients in his diet. Our doctor expressed her concern that day. Her main point was the lack of steady protein in his diet. Since JSL did not drink a set amount of cows milk (he is still nursing) we were not sure what his daily intake is. We eat a lot of soy products, but she wanted to make sure additional protein was added to his diet.

We were worried about starting milk and or peanut butter too early. Our oldest son had a milk allergy (only to plain cows milk), so waiting as long as possible to introduce that was key. When we went shopping we kept eyeballing the different nutritional drink supplements for children and wondered about them. At about the same time, I was given the opportunity from the Family Review Network and Nestle Nutrition to try Boost Kid Essentials Nutritionally Complete Drink.

Our Review:

Both of my boys were very intrigued with the Boost Kid Essentials package when it arrived at our house. I placed the boxes into the refrigerator so they would be chilled for the boys. The other morning, the little guy refused to eat breakfast. We were heading out for a lot of errands and I did not want him to be hungry. This was the perfect opportunity to try the new Boost Kid Essentials product. As soon as I put the box onto his tray, he grabbed it.

His little hands had a hard time holding it, so I assisted him. JSL really seemed to like it. He kept asking for more and finished most of the 8.25 ounce drink.

Little guy takes his try

My five year old son also wanted to try. He was immediately in awe of the larger extended straw that is on the box. Little did he know that it contained live active cultures to help boost his immune system. This thrilled me since kindergarten, and all classrooms in general, tend to breed a lot of germs.

NHL immediately told me that it tasted like a milk shake to him. He liked the flavor and asked what other kinds they had. When I told him chocolate, he asked if we could get some of that to try one day. I told him sure since both of the boys really enjoyed it. Of course, I had to take a taste. It had a very nice vanilla flavor and was smooth. I know a lot of the other nutritional drinks can be gritty, but this was not.

We will definitely be purchasing more Boost Kid Essentials for our boys. It is a good thing for us to have on hand for those days when the kids need a little something extra. At least I know my little guy will drink this and not toss it on the ground like most of the foods that we try during these tough toddler days.

If you are interested in trying Boost Kid Essentials for your child, head over to their website for a $5.00 off coupon if you register your e-mail address. Then head to a retailer near you to find it nationwide.
