My little adventure monkey

Dear JSL,

Thank goodness things were back on track this week. You have been feeling so much better and most important are fever free. In less than two years time, you have given us way too many scares. You are such an adventure seeker and love to try anything and everything your big brother does.

This week you helped me to "walk" and "kick" lots with Leslie Sansone. Of course, you were silly and wanted to take the DVD case with us when we went out. I think you have a little mini-crush on Leslie. Thursday we spent the afternoon the morning with Nana. You had a great time really exploring Chuck E Cheese with almost nobody else there. Then that afternoon you and NHL made Mimi and Aunt T smile. You hugged everyone and later at night modeled your new blanket that Aunt T made for you.

It it hard to believe that in just over a month, my baby is going to be two. Time has gone by too quickly. Stay sweet my little one.

I love you,

Mommy

Exercising up a storm

This week I have really been kicking it into high gear with my work outs. I feel energized after I do them, and really want to be in better shape when we head to Disney World. I know that although I may not be close to my goal weight, I will be able to walk more while at Disney and keep up my energy levels.

This week I have "walked" 19.5 miles since Sunday, not including today. All of this has been by using one of my Leslie Sansone walk at home DVDs. Here is the week in review.

Sunday (3 miles) – While the boys went outside to play I did my new 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk. It is a "power walk" DVD and uses handweights. It is a fast paced 45 minute work out that really works all your muscles, strengthens your core, and makes you sweat!

3 Mile Weight Loss Walk

Monday (5 miles) – I felt ambitious while the little guy was napping. I put in the 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk. This DVD includes five 12 minute miles that get your heart pumping, your body moving and fat blasted (73 minutes total). It went by really quickly and I felt energized. My only complaint is that I should have stopped to retie my sneaker. Apparently it was rubbing my poor foot the wrong way. I was limping thanks to a blister trying to form.

5 Mile Fat Burning Walk

Tuesday (3.5 miles) – JSL was up and did not want to nap. Mistake #1 I tried to do the 30 Day Shred first.  I just can not do that in our little space and if I do try it again need to figure out what I can do to replace Jillian’s love for push ups. With my wrist injury those are just not possible. The plan was to do the DVD from Sunday and do two of the fast second mile for a total of 4 miles. I started the DVD after about eight minutes of the Shred. The little guy let me get into the start of the fast 2nd mile when he started to flip out. One thing I can not do is walk with Leslie Sansone with a 22 month old on my shins. So I stopped cold turkey and put JSL down for a nap. Once he was asleep I put in the DVD from Monday and did 2 miles with that.

Wednesday (5 miles) – I wanted to target some different muscles. With JSL watching me the entire 82 minutes, I did the entire 5 Day Slim Down DVD. Mile 1 is the Classic Walk, Mile 2 Sculpts your arms, Mile 3 Slims your legs (psycho squats and lunges galore), Mile 4 Trim you tummy with lots of focus on the core, and Mile 5 speed walk. I felt very wobbly after mile 3 thanks to the intensity of the moves, but pushed on. Let me tell you, Thursday I was feeling the burn. My arms, legs and shoulders ached, but in a good sort of way.

5 Day Slim Down

Thursday (3 miles) –  The boys were kicked out of the house to play outside with JL so I could do the Walk Away Your Waistline DVD (48 minutes). I opted to use the Walk Belt and it helped to stretch my arm muscles from the aches that I had from the previous day.

Leslie Sansone - Walk at Home

Today – Not sure what I am going to do yet. Since it is already late, I will probably opt for a quick 3 mile walk. I am also excited to check out the new Leslie Sansone DVDs that are being released at Target. They come with boosters that can be used. There is one in particular that I have my eye on.

So what have you been up to this week in the world of exercise?

April Fool’s Day remembered

When I was teaching I would always cringe on April Fool’s Day. I never knew what to expect from my older students and was aware that it could be very bad. Of course, there was also the year that we had a full day field trip (6am to 11pm) on April Fool’s Day. Talk about rules before hand. We had to make sure the kids knew that pranks on the bus, at the museum and on the boat tour would not be accepted.

I am not sure why, but I have never really been into pranks for April Fool’s Day. We did not really talked about it when I was in school. It shocked me when my kindergarten kid actually came home referencing it. Every other word out of NHL’s mouth on Wednesday was something about April Fool’s Day. *sigh*   Man they learn young.

My webmaster husband (aka TechyDad) decided it would be fun to do something to our readers. We briefly talked about it Tuesday evening, but never said much after that. Suddenly TechyDad started to Tweet me strange messages on Wednesday. Without going to my blog, I just knew what he had done. JL had switched the templates of our blogs. So if you came here to TheAngelForever it looked like you were at TechyDad, just with my content.

So my question for you:

Did you do anything for April Fool’s Day this year or were you the recipient of anything? If not and you have something fun from the past please share that as well.

Ready or not, here comes Passover

No matter how much I am in denial, the reality is there.  Next Wednesday night is the first Passover Seder.

Over the last month or so we have been slowly gathering more healthy recipes to use for Passover.  Of course also with that we have been going into debt buying Passover items before the stores run out. This year JL and I promised each other that we would not buy as much of the prepackaged Passover foods, mixes and things. We have our own baking pans for Passover and bought ingredients that can be used to bake the boys some goodies. Of course we did buy some Rainbow and Bon Bon cookies because those are quite difficult to replicate.

Here is the cabinet in our kitchen completely filled with all of our non-perishable Passover food/baking/spice items.

Passover non-perishable items (goes WAY back and under)

My biggest dilemma with Passover is breakfast. Most morning I eat instant oatmeal. It is filling, low points and keeps me energized for the morning. Sadly there is no really good option with this for Passover. The boys will likely be eating a LOT of matzah and cream cheese. Yummy indeed,  but it is not really an option while being good. I seriously do not want to undo the weight loss that I have done, especially given the commitment to work outs that I have been doing. Since Sunday, I have already done 16.5 miles of work out with Leslie Sansone (not including today).

One option is trying this:

New to us this Passover

According to JL, it can be used as a hot breakfast cereal of sorts. Has anyone tried this and have any suggestions? Trying to come up with some more options for Passover. We have yogurt, although not one that I really like since it is Kosher for Passover. There will also be egg whites, which are great if I have time to cook them. And of couse I could also do cottage cheese and fruit.

If you have any other suggestions for healthy Passover meals, especially breakfast and even lunch, I would love to hear them.

There are a lot of past postings where I talk about Passover. Just do a keyword search for Passover. Here are my posts from the Seders last year: Happy Passover 2008 – Seder 1   and     Seder Part Deux – 2008.
