Aloha Friday #1

Aloha and TGIF everyone! Are you new to Aloha Friday?

Although this is my first time writing one, I have been participating in several for months now on different blog. Please stop by and visit Kailani at Island Life and see where Aloha Friday first started. Her blog button is bellow and she loves to meet new people.

Here is how Kailani describes Aloha Friday:

"In Hawaii, Aloha Friday is the day that we take it easy and look forward to the weekend. So I thought that on Fridays I would take it easy on posting, too. Therefore, I’ll ask a simple question for you to answer. Nothing that requires a lengthy response.

If you’d like to participate, just post your own question on your blog and leave your link below. Don’t forget to visit the other participants! It’s a great way to make new bloggy friends!"

My question this week. . . .

Have you ever been summoned for jury duty? If you have did you end up serving as a juror?

The inspiration for this is both hubby and I receiving juror questionaires, followed by jurror summons. I asked to be excused since I am still nursing JSL. They know from my record that I have not only been summoned before, but served as a member of a jury just weeks before my wedding (it was a rape case). Yesterday JL received a summons for the week of June 30, I told him it should be a light week and he may not even need to head in once he calls in Sunday.

Please help me to kick off my Aloha Friday by answering my question. Also feel free to leave a link if you participate within the comment section.

June fun in the mail

Over the last few weeks I have received some fun packages in the mail. NHL always gets so excited to see what I have received. No matter what it is he is always happy to help me open up and see what is inside.

All of the following were items that I won in giveaways on blogs.

  • Thank you to  5 Minutes for Mom for the fun Alvin and the Chipmunks package. I won their giveaway for the CD and DVD from the newly released movie. JL and I laughed when we heard the Chipmunks singing Bad Day. Thanks to the great weather NHL has not had a moment to sit and watch the movie, but we will on the next rainy family fun day.
  • A package with a Baggu arrived courtesy of Cool Mom Picks. I absolutely LOVE this bag. The neat little sack that it comes in is wonderful. I keep it in my purse and have already used it for my bargain shopping at CVS several times. Several people have asked what it was since they were shocked such a large bag came out of the little sack in my purse. Thank you again Cool Mom Picks and Baggu!
  • As many of you know I love the band Barenaked Ladies (BNL). Not too long ago I found out that they actually made a CD for children. It is amazing and I was lucky enough to win a copy of it, along with the book from The ‘lil mommy that could. NHL was fascinated with the illustrations in the book and he an JSL both loved dancing to the music. This will quickly become a family favorite – way to go BNL for a family friendly CD! A special thank you to Lil Mommy for the fun giveaway.
  • Just yesterday a sweet little package arrived in the mail from CanCan of My Greening: Going Green. I love to knit, but I am forever afraid to branch out into more challenging items. CanCan was giving away a knitted gnome from Green Mountain Wee Woolies. When I went to their Etsy shop I was floored with the gorgeous creations. Now I know I should just keep knitting what I do and let the pros do these items. Thank you so much for the adorable gnome and surprise baby in the sling!

Here is a photo of three of the items mentioned above. Thank you again to all of the people involved in these – my family and I thank you and love everything!

Giveaway goodies received

Hmmm. . . wheels turning about a giveaway of my own coming soon!

6 1/2 pounds of strawberry picking fun

Last year JL wanted to go strawberry picking, but it just did not work out with an infant less than a month old. This year he was quite persistent and gathered information about local pick your own patches. We finally narrowed it down to a place not too far away. On Father’s Day after having breakfast with my dad (mom was at work) we went to pick strawberries. NHL was beyond excited and could not wait to get there. Here are some photos from our time picking about 6 1/2 pounds of the yummy red goodness!

*** Be sure to hover over the photos to see additional captions. Warning that this is photo heavy. Since my family does read this I wanted to share lots of the photos with them as well.

First JL took NHL out into the field while I stayed trying to rock JSL in the stroller (this never did work).

 Smiles all around

Serious work

 Comparing their finds

Hmmm. . . any over here?

After a little while NHL and JL came back to get more containers for strawberries. Plus they wanted to show me all that they had collected.

Mom look what I picked!

 YUMMY!

At this point the little guy made it crystal clear that he was not about to stay in his stroller. JL took him and all of the boys went back out to get more strawberries. Apparently at one point JSL got a hold of a strawberry from the container when Daddy was not looking and squished it. He was then given a sample to taste and LOVED it!

He definitely likes it!

Eventually all of the boys wandered back to show me more strawberries and to let me head out into the field. Believe it or not I believe this was the first time I had ever gone strawberry picking. Poor JSL was really tired from lack of a nap – thus the reason his binky was in (that and teething).

Hey look what we got

After a while we had four good sized containers of strawberries. Both of the boys were tired from the heat and humidity so we went to pay and head home.

Ready to pay

He LOVES strawberries!

So if you made it through all of these photos you can see we had a great time. So much so that one of us never made it very far before falling asleep.

Depending on the weather we may go again this coming weekend. So I ask those of you reading this – any suggestions on things to make with strawberries?

Majorly Missing Moe’s Tasty Tomatoes

After spending the morning strawberry picking (photos to come later) we decided to head out to dinner. Kids eat free on Sunday at Moe’s so we went there for a quick meal before tub time.

When you walk into a Moe’s they greet you with "Welcome to Moe’s" across the restaurant and then you get on line to order your food. Today we quickly noticed a paper posted at the counter. It certainly is a sign of the times given the constant food contamination problems plaguing us these days. As we all know the latest victim is the friendly tomato, a summer time favorite and especially important part of Mexican food. Moe’s decided to make customers laugh at the current situation with the following poster.

Missing sign posted at Moe's

We certainly missed the tomatoes in our food, but are happy not to have to worry about the consequences of eating them. The boys loved their food. This is the first time JSL was awake for a visit to Moe’s and he loved his meal.

Yummy. . . NHL love Moe's

 JSL enjoys his food

As always JL and I were amused by the fun artwork at Moe’s. This is one of our favorites . . . be sure to read all the way around it.

Guacamole sign

Hopefully next time when we head in and hear them say "Welcome to Moe’s" we will not be greeted with the tomato sign. Moe’s just is not the same without the tasty red summer goodness.

Welcome to Moe's

After dinner we went to a local ice cream place for JL to have his free Father’s Day scoop. It was a fun day . . . now we just need to figure out what to do with six and a half pounds of strawberries!
