Daycare Visit

After I took JSL to the doctor we went to the daycare center for NHL’s parent teacher conference. This was the first one that I have gone to. When we got there the daycare director said that afterward she wanted to introduce us to JSL’s teachers for the fall when he starts going there. I was relieved to hear that JSL will not be in the same infant room that NHL was in. It’s not that it was a bad experience, the head teacher just isn’t warm and fuzzy.

So, JL and I talked with NHL’s teacher about how things are going. She said he’s testing things a little more, but she doesn’t think it is necessarily his baby brother and is likely just the age (almost 4). She was really great. It’s amazing how she really knows NHL after being in the room such a short time. I think her evaluation was the most accurate one that we’ve had – EVER. We also told her that were not 100% sure about the summer and plans. NHL is going to a new school for the fall and we’re debating what to do for the summer. He’ll be bored home with me every day. So we did ask about possibly sending part time for July and August. The daycare director said it’s a possibility and would get back to us.

After our meeting we happened to meet NHL in the hall since he was in the gym having PT. We promised to meet him in his classroom to show off his baby brother to his friends. So we were finally able to part from him and went to see the new baby room. We met two of the teachers. Interesting to note the afternoon teacher in that room is the woman that left NHL’s current room to retire. I guess it wasn’t really for her and she just needed out of that age group. The nice thing about this new room is the head teacher is a nurse. That calms me down a lot and we saw her as we were leaving. She told us to visit often this summer and chat anytime. I was very happy since the guilt about going back to work in September has already started.

After that we went to see NHL and then took JSL to see JL’s co-workers.

On that note I am off to deal with nose milk coming from JSL again. UGH!

2 Week Visit

The last 3-4 nights have been very rough. JSL has been what I consider projectile vomiting quite a bit. In addition to this, milk will shoot violently out his nose. He’s had this from time to time since he was born, but things got worse lately. From 3 in the afternoon to 3 in the morning it seems worse. . . and from 9 at night to 3 in the morning he’s been screaming bloody murder and is not able to be consoled. Today I said forget it and wanted him to be seen since I thought it may be reflux. So JSL and I went to see our doctor this morning at 10:15. We did a weight check. When he was born he was 8 lbs 15 oz and 3 days later was 8 lbs. It’s been about 10 days since he was weighed and today he was 9 lbs 5 oz. That alone relieved me since I am still pumping and feeding him since he still falls asleep when nursing. Basically they won’t say it’s reflux since it doesn’t happen all day. They said we’ll see how the next week goes and this should get better in the next 3-4 weeks. So tonight if he screams we are going to the living room floor for tummy time. That was what I finally did to get him to sleep and stop going nuts. *sigh* I love this time, but it is so frustrating not being able to help your baby when they are so upset.

Open eye time!

It doesn’t happen often, so I have to take photos when it does (he really does have eyes – see). Here are some pictures of JSL when he was awake today and trying to roll over in his Pack N’ Play bassinet. As you can see he eventually got frustrated with not being successful. Not to worry, he’ll get it soon enough.

Thinking about what to do:

Tried to swing his arm to get some momentum:

Upset that he wasn’t getting his way (MALE):

More mommy & baby troubles

Yesterday before JL went to work he helped me to put a big band aid over my thigh to cushion it since it was pulsing and throbbing and hurt to walk (guess the antibiotic was pushing this crud out quickly). Anyway, it was on all day and was bothering me, but at least a little more comfortable.

Early in the evening JL and NHL were heading out and I asked for help taking the band aid off so I could take a shower while they were gone and JSL was sleeping. I opted to do it while on the couch. Well as it came off the sucker burst and was bleeding all over the place. Ugh! The pressure was relieved, but ICK! So my shower was postponed while we cleaned up the mess and put the drawing salve onto it. Today it looks a lot better, smaller area, and the crease of my thigh isn’t as inflamed as yesterday. Still I’m trying not to be too pessimistic, but I so fear ending up in the hospital on IV antibiotics. . . no less needing surgery to clean the area out completely. *sigh*

Add to it another wrinkle to the family. Yesterday I told JL that I didn’t like the way JSL’s circumcision area was looking. I thought there was a white looking line forming. Sure enough this afternoon during a diaper change it looked a lot worse. JL saw it and agreed it was looking infected, so I put a lot more bacitracin on the spot directly, wrapped it and put in a call for the doctor about 20 minutes ago. *sigh* Poor baby – between that and not wanting (or possibly being able) to nurse from me or suck from the better low gas bottles, he’s been a mess. Right now he’s sleeping peacefully on the couch. Tuesday I just may pursue getting more information about his tongue to see if it will help with the troubles he’s been having. An update to come later when we know more from the doctor.

Update: The doctor just called me back. Apparently he couldn’t hear my phone number and had to track it down. He doesn’t think it’s infected (no fever, drainage, or raw redness), but wants us to do a few things to help it. He also said to call if I’m still concerned about JSL not eating and he wants to see him about the tongue tie.
