Quick note – this is when the boys first saw each other after JSL’s 3 nights in the hospital (last few posts about this nightmare)
Thank you to everyone for the prayers and get well wishes. JSL and I are home. We were released from the hospital this afternoon. He was waving bye-bye to everyone as we left. He fell asleep before we even made it out of the parking garage. I do not have the heart to wake him up now since he is breathing and sleeping so peacefully. Thanks to that he is sitting in his reclined highchair with his coat and hat still on. Not the best, but I could not try to remove them.
I put in a load of laundry quickly to wash blankets and things. I wanted all of JSL’s sheets and things washed. Those are done now, along with some amazing new flannel blankets for JSL and pillow cases that my friend Laura (the squish yarn guru) made for us. NHL is going to be so thrilled to see his new pillow cases and his Muppets blanket.
Sleep is something foreign to me and I am not sure if I will be able to accomplish it without JSL in our bed tonight. His breathing is still funky thanks to the mucous factor. We will see how things go once he wakes up. We are supposed to follow up with our doctor on Friday (2:00 appointment) and give him the antibiotic for the ear infection/pinkeye, along with continue to do the PT on his chest/back followed by suctioning his nose and mouth. My biggest concern is keeping him hydrated. He gags on solid foods and has a tough time nursing thanks to being congested. I do his therapy prior to nursing to help, but it only helps so much.
Update: JSL just woke up and we did the therapy/torture. He is SO happy in the ExerSaucer romping around. I am going to take him to nurse in a few minutes (letting him settle after doing the suctioning fun) since he has not had anything since 11:00 this morning.

GRRRRR! I just posted this entire thing and lost it . . . see what no sleep does!?!?
Thanks to it going POOF I am shortening it since I can not recall what I typed before. JSL is going to be staying in the hospital for at least another night. They were going to let us take him home, but agree that it may be too soon since he has not been fever free or on another new antibiotic for 24 hours.
Last night was very rough. The little guy had a 102 fever that spiked again. The nurse decided to give him a sponge bath after suctioning him out and giving him Motrin. The poor kid was a mess, his heart was racing and his oxygen levels kept going low from what was going on. Luckily he settled down and got some sleep (more than I can really say).
This morning the head pediatric doctor came in. She was amazing! She actually examined JSL (the head and resident yesterday did not – this was hindsight that I never realized until my mother pointed it out). I ranted about the doctor from last night, but not do not feel like bothering again. . . maybe later. The doctor today finally may have found part of the reason the fever will no go away. He had an ear infection in addition to double pink eye and creeping crud from the end of some sort of virus.
Neurology was called in for a consult and are not concerned at this point thanks to our febrile seizure history in both sides of the family. They were fine with sending us home, but agreed that it may not be right for other reasons.
JL is with the little guy now, NHL is with my father after spending the day with my Aunt S. I am checking in here with the world outside of the hospital quickly. After that I am off to shower and get dressed to head back to Moo the monkey.
More update later, but here are some photos. No, I did not have the camera with me in the ER, JL brought it to me later. First are some from Sunday morning after the events that unfolded Saturday evening.
A very sick and tired little boy Sunday morning a few hours after being admitted.
Taking time for some Daddy hugs:
A little shut eye for the boys (I was too wired to sleep from everything that had happened):
My poor little monkey:
The contraption on his arm that he first tried to eat and then learned to take off.
Sleeping with his Pirate Duckie blanket:

Now here is one from today when he is looking a little better.
Off to shower, gather things and head back. More updates tomorrow when we HOPE to come home.

Quick note – JSL’s fever spiked last night and he was laboring to breathe. It was bad enough to get my parents here. I called the doctor and were told to put him into the tub (we had already given him Motrin) to get his temperature down. After playing for a few minutes his eyes glazed over, his eyes rolled back, and he started to seize.
We took him out of the tub and to our room. He was not responsive. Suddenly after that he started coughing, went limp and turned GRAY!
My mother and I knew he was not breathing and she did mouth to mouth breathing on him.
Quick end to the story for now. . . . JSL is still in the hospital and will be until at least tomorrow. We do not know what caused it and are trying to figure it.
Update to come later.
C’est Moi
Clearly the winter germ festival has finally arrived at our house. Last night we had a great dinner with my parents, grandmother, SIL (in from out of town), baby niece, and my SIL’s mother (here for a conference). JSL’s eye was looking much better and he was acting normal.
Fast forward to the middle of the night. He woke up coughing, but settled back down between 1-2. At 4 he was much worse. JL took him to our room and he was a little warm. I took his temperature with our ear thermometer (doctor suggested one) and it was 99.7 (his normal temperature is 96.2). Not too much of anything to get excited about. Then the croupy cough really kicked in and rattling when he was breathing. I felt his head again and he was burning up. Took his temperature just 15 minutes later and it was 101.3. With our family history of febrile seizures a spike like that is a big concern. Ibuprofen was given quickly and he settled back to sleep with us.
Right now he is up and again, the eye looks great. Unfortunately, he sounds like crud. When he coughs, it is like a croup bark and you can feel his body rattle. I will be calling the doctor’s office at 8:00.
Update to follow.
