Almost Chanukah time 2010

The days after Thanksgiving are spent with most people finalizing their plans for Christmas. For those of us that are Jewish and celebrate Chanukah, we have a lot less time to prepare this year. This coming Wednesday, December 1, we will be lighting the first candle on our menorah.

Dreidel Song

This year we are minimizing our focus on presents that we give the kids and focusing more on family time. So excuse me, I must be off. We need to locate all of our Chanukah books, practice spinning our dreidels, dust off our menorah, and get the songs of Barenaked Ladies ready to play for the week ahead.

KidsFunPlaza round up for Nov. 14

KidsFunPlaza Writer

As I have mentioned before, I write for a local magazine called KidsFunPlaza NENY. It is going to be a busy week ahead for me with the writing deadline for the December edition in just a few days.

This past week I had two posts that are on the KidsFunPlaza blog:

Other posts from my talented colleagues this week are:

So please take a moment and stop by KidsFunPlaza to weigh in on some of the topics that we have been writing about. This week, there will be posts coming in the Family/Winner, The Plaza, Pre-Teen, Teen, Grandma’s Wisdom, Community, and Buy Local sections. Exciting times, so do not miss a minute of the fun.

Trying to forget and live in the moment

Stress. It is something that has been invading my life a lot in recent weeks. Rather than talk about it today, I am off to enjoy a day playing Candy Land and running in the sun with my little guy.

Learning and Playing

For a few minutes, I will try to forget about:

  • Hysterics from the 3 year old at nursery school drop off
  • Negative e-mails/calls from many sources
  • Failure of our education system to assist gifted students
  • Inability to control schedules of all kinds

I know that is very vague, but a snap shot of several big items that have constantly been on my mind. Once again, I fully admit that being an adult is very, very, very overrated.

*sigh*

As I head off, I must remind myself of one very important item. I am not failing as a parent. The system is failing most children. I am the best advocate for my children and will never give up in my fight for their rights.

Busy days with KidsFunPlaza

Being able to do something that you enjoy, with people that you like is not something that a lot of individuals can say. I am so blessed to be able to say just this. Thanks to KidFunPlaza NENY, I have been busy working on fun projects, meeting new people, and learning fabulous things.

Of course, with this new job comes added responsibilities and deadlines. I am in love!  Yes, you read that right. Having these has been so wonderful to keep my mind busy and engaged. I am excited to share the new cover of our October magazine. Check out this beauty:

October2010 KidsFunPlaza NENY

If you live in the Northeastern NY area, keep an eye out for the new October magazine. It is chock full of great ideas for Halloween and beyond. The November writing deadline just passed and it should be even more amazing thanks to several new team members. As each month passes, expect bigger and better things to come.

Oh and be sure to head over to the KidsFunPlaza Blog and read Ana’s latest Monday at the Plaza. There you will find new details about some of the contests that are taking place for kids and adults. Have fun!

Multi-tasking while I read

Yes, you read that right. I like to multi-task while I am reading. Time is tight here and being able to do all of the items that I want to do, along with what I have to do is tough. In January, I wrote about my new found love of reading books on CD while knitting. During the summer months, I must admit, I was not keeping up with this as much. I put the knitting needles down some and was reading actual books.

Now the weather has shifted and I am trying to work on a blanket for the boys. After the boys are in bed and my writing is done, I have been working on my big knitting project and reading books.

Knit 6 Purl 6

I just finished reading The 19th Wife by David Ebershoff. In just about a week, any chance I had, I read this 15 CD long book. (Loved it – more on that coming soon). Thanks to my little MP3 player, I was able to take it to listen while waiting for JSL at school, while knitting, cleaning and anything else. Today, I started listening to The Help by Kathryn Stockett and also have The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

Books on deck

Since it has been a while since I last asked, I would love some more book suggestions (I’m good on the kiddie literature books).

What are some books that you would recommend that I put on my list to read while multitasking. I am open to all genres and if you have listened to them on CD and liked them even better (the reader is key in a lot of these audio books).

Also be sure to enter my CardsDirect $50 gift card giveaway.
