Grilling Goodness – Take 19

GoldenGoodness

This was posted on Friday, but we were on the road. Just got home from a long weekend visiting my brother, SIL and sweet little niece. Now we are home and getting the kids ready for bed and hoping back into EA Sports Active. I will be finishing up my 30 Day Challenge tomorrow!

1. When you were growing up dreaming of having children…dreaming of what their names would be…did you stick with those names? – In my family (and hubby’s too) we follow the Jewish tradition of naming after special people that have passed away. Names of my future children were never really in my head, just knew I would have kids. However, a name I loved growing up is the name of my niece.

2. Are you affected by the death of Michael Jackson? – I will admit that I was stuck watching Twitter and online media as things were unfolding. I grew up with MJ and it is very sad to watch how his life unfolded.

3. Do you use your dishwasher and your fireplace? – Definitely use our dishwasher, but no fireplace here. Even if we had one I would never use it since the smoke bothers my lungs and asthma.

4. Have you ever been on a mission trip? – No, but a lot of my former students had.

5. Will your kids participate in a Vacation Bible school this summer? – We’re Jewish and do Hebrew School all year.

6. What about the economy is affecting you the worst? – Worrying about savings and the future, especially for the kids. Thanks to increasing costs of everything the day to day tasks can really get to you.

7. Do your kids do chores? – We are starting to give chores to NHL (almost 6 and going into 1st grade).

8. Do you use energy efficient light bulbs? – Yes, I think there are only a handful of bulbs (in places we rarely go) still have the regular bulbs.

Grilling Goodness – Take 18

GoldenGoodness

1. What do you like most about your skin? – Most of the time my skin is really clear. I will see that as good through my way fair coloring and freckles.

2. Does your spouse mind grocery shopping for you or with you? – We typically do a trip together. Neither of us mind going alone and JL will often go alone on his way home from work. Since he does most of the cooking he can look for what he wants.

3. Do you have access to a pool for the summer? – There are a few public pools locally, but not too sure about them. I miss going to my Nana and Papa’s pool and spending almost all summer there.

4. Do you have plans for Father’s Day? – It depends on the weather. We may try to go strawberry picking, or perhaps to Six Flags to use our passes for the first time this year. Of course, the constant rain may stop that. We will probably do lunch out where hubby wants and then we are having pizza and wings with my parents for dinner.

5. Is there anything that terrified you as a child that you find …. now? – Can not think of anything really.

6. If you could do something instantly, what would it be? – If it was for the family, get a new/bigger house. If it was for me, drop the rest of the weight that I have been working on.

7. What would you do to entertain visitors from out of town? – Would take them to one of the local museums. There are several so lots to pick from. We could go up north to more historic areas and the lake (no less Six Flags). We are also close to caves that are a great things to go and see.

8. If your best friend owes you money, do you bug them until you get it? – I used to be bad at asking for money back. I never kept track, but now I do and patiently ask for it from time to time.

It isn’t easy feeling green

Trying to play catch up with blog posts and other items has been on hold the last few evenings. I have felt quite sick and pretty green. As much as I love Kermit, being green is definitely not my thing. Sitting at the computer to do blog posts was not an option last night. I actually went to sleep at 9:00 and curled up into a ball and slept. This morning I felt better. I did my EA Sports Active 30 Day Challenge workout, along with two more to total about 45 minutes of exercise. When all was said and done I felt pretty good. The plan was to go out tonight to the graduation at the school that I used to work at.

Plans changed after NHL came home from school. Suddenly at about 4:00 I felt naseous and VERY green. The boys were playing and I curled up on the couch. By the time JL arrived home from work I was hardly able to move off the couch. I had chills, felt sick and was burning up. Thanks to the thermometer I know I have a low grade fever, so my plans were off.

It isn't easy feeling green

I had thought that the green feeling the last few evenings was thanks to my vitamins. Today I have not taken any of them and am still feeling nasty. Clearly my body is fighting off some sort of virus. I know that a lot of kids at NHL’s school have had a variety of things going on and I have been there a lot later. So, tonight I am home and will try to rest up. With kindergarten graduation on Monday, and other plans this weekend rest is a must.

On a side note, my Twitter picture is not green to show my level of illness. Here is a Tweet that explains it all:

Green for Iran

Playing catch up and the kindergarten blues

It is hard to believe that it is well into June already. Kindergarten kid has less than two weeks of school left and he will be a first grader. This has caused some anxiety for the little guy. NHL does not do well with change. Of course, a lot of this has to do with the absolute hell that he went through when we tried the Montessori school for PreK in September 2007. Similar to the end of last year, NHL is acting out. Today it finally hit on me as to why. He has no idea what to expect in first grade and has loved kindergarten. He does not want it to end. Of course, this only dawned on me after several days of the poor kid crying and having nightmares. None of this excuses NHL’s behavior, but it certainly explains it. Talking with the school nurse helped me to see the light. NHL went to her with an earache today. I mentioned to her how he did not want to go to school this morning and I think he was trying to go home.

Last night was a rough evening. When we went to sleep a horrible thunder storm was coming into the area. Our house was actually shaking when we heard the thunder. We closed everything down and listening to the hail pound outside the house. When we went to sleep at close to midnight everything was still on. At about 12:30 last night I was really warm and woke up. The room was pitch black. No television on, no clock and no fan. I woke JL up and we got flashlights to see what time it was. We found the number to the power company and called. I finally got a person there and found out that there were 1800 people with no power in our are and they projected it to return between 3-4 in the morning. I was thrilled when less than 40 minutes later everything came back on.

Of course, my mind was racing a mile a minute. I could not settle down and sleep. I was thinking about NHL. What are the three of us going to do this summer. Should I try to send him to camp? What are my options for next year if he is not in the first grade class that would be most beneficial to him. The list of things goes on, but you get the point.

Thanks to all of this and trying to take care of things for school (I am the room parent), I am still playing catch up with blog posts. I have three more days of our Disney trip and two days at the lake with family to name a few. I hope to get them caught up soon.

So while my brain is still on warp speed, let me see what ideas you may have:

What are some inexpensive things that I can do with the two boys this summer?

Remember that JSL just turned two and NHL will be six at the end of the summer. Trying to figure things out is turning out to be very stressful. I worry that it is going to be a very long summer if we do not have something to get out and do, especially with other children (and adults for me).
