My baby is going to school!

Reality check hit home big time on Wednesday night.

WAH – My baby is going to PreK in a week (now less than a week).

Wednesday we took JSL to stay at my parents house so we could take NHL to the PreK open house at his new school. We got there really early so we were able to chat some with the principal. Then at about 7:00 we went to the classroom.

NHL’s teacher is very young and energetic. Perfect for a PreK/K classroom. She was down to talk with the kids and was so great about letting them explore the room. There are 9 PreK children in the room and 11 K students. We were able to go over the weekly schedule and hear about specials and other important events in the room. She let all of us ask questions as well. I had a few about lunch money, drop off and pick up. I think NHL is going to be one of the few kids that are not bused in the school. Pick up will be rough since parking does not exist and I will have JSL with me – especially in the winter (UGH).

NHL didn’t want to go home. He was having a blast trying puzzles, playing with clay, coloring and other things that were out for the kids to try. We finally got him to go and we stopped at the library before heading back to my parents.

We got there and we all enjoyed mom’s yummy banana cheesecake that she made with Splenda. It was really “tasty” as NHL would say.

So now I sit here and get myself ready to cry next Wednesday when we take NHL to his first day of real school.

Where did my baby go? Next thing I know he’ll be 13 and a Bar Mitzvah.

Movin’ on up . . .

Last weekend (August 5th) it was finally time for JSL to move on up from the Pack N’ Play to his big crib. He was getting cramped in the tight space of the bassinet and needed more area to roll over and get stuck in.

It was love at first sight!

Here’s JSL checking out Snoopy on the bumpers:

Check out how much room he has:

Soon after getting into the crib for the first time put JSL onto his tummy. Within minutes he curled up and was sucking on his hand and fell asleep. Clearly he really liked his new sleeping arrangements.

See how much room he has:

The crib has helped so much. He really love it and enjoys rolling over and stretching in it. He likes to look at Snoopy and most importantly sleep 9+ hours most nights!

JSL Big Melon up!

JSL is a tummy sleeper. Thanks to this he usually curls up when I try to do tummy time with him and he never wants to play. Well today I found inspiration for him. I placed one of NHL’s toy cars in front to make him pick up his big old melon off the floor. WHOA!  The kid has muscles when he wants to use them. Prior to this he’s lifted his head for a few second here and there. Well, today was mighty different. Today he had his head up for several minutes (3-5). After that he had enough and I put him in his swing. In less than 5 minutes he was chomping on his bib and rocked asleep. The little monkey was all tuckered out from the work. Mind you he also played on his gym mat for quite a while before that on his back kicking his legs and flailing his arms.

I am more watchful with JSL and his milestones sine NHL had low muscle tone and was hypotonic. If JSL doesn’t do certain things by a specific time I will be first on line to call Early Intervention to have him evaluated. As I have learned the earlier you get therapy the better.

First laughs :)

Last night JL was changing JSL’s diaper and told me he heard him laugh. Tonight I was just changing a little blow out (UGH) and made a silly face and he laughed at me! It was too cute. He did it again and I swear he sounds like a Sesame Street character I just can’t figure out which one. JL said last night it was like Ernie, but I thought a little different today. Maybe it wasn’t Sesame Street and was a different Jim Henson creation – like the Muppets. Hmmmm. . . . guess he’ll need to laugh more for us to figure it out.

Holy Cow!

JSL went into his Pack N’ Play bassinet last night a little after 9:00 last night. As always I put him on his tummy. This morning at about 4:20 I started to hear him fuss. I walked into the room and look at him staring at me. I did a double take! Sure enough he rolled onto his back this morning. I heard him “chatting” this morning before I went into the room. We had seen him on his tummy using his feet ass pivot points, but he had never quite had enough push to go all the way over. Guess he does now. It will be interesting to see how long it take him to do it again and realize what he’s done.

*sigh* He’s growing up so fast already. . . and he’s only 6 weeks old!

On that note I am heading to the hospital in the next 20 minutes or so.
