Since I did newborn and 1 month, I decided to do 2 month comparison photos of NHL & JSL.
Here’s one of them sleeping:
Here they are in their swing:
Clearly one was a well fed compared to the other!

*sigh*
Yesterday NHL stayed home to have his stitches out. Thank goodness Aunt S came with us. It was horrible. Since the doctor was the ONLY one in he was over 45 minutes late. That combined with nap time made things horrid.
NHL flipped when he took the bandage off, so you can imagine the horror in actually removing the stitches. A nurse came in to hold his head still, I had his arms and body, and Aunt S had his legs (poor JSL was crying in his stroller during all of this). Now the tricky part. Every time NHL screamed at the top pg his lungs his chin moved. Try taking a stitch out from a moving target. It was unreal.
When the stitches came out I wanted to cry. It still looked horrible. I wasn’t sure if it looked any different 5 days later. I think it may not be as deep, but it was still very open. *WAH* My poor baby has a nasty scar thanks to negligence at daycare – GRRRRRRR!
So we have sterri strips on it to keep the skin together. No pool or sprinklers for a while. I am so angry. I know accidents happen, but this SHOULD and COULD have been prevented.
On that note JSL and I are off to get my car inspected. Will post more later about the house scare last night.

Here’s a look at the stitches that NHL had the other day (please excuse the up the nose view):
Now imagine two adults tackling him to change the bandage and put a new one on. It was too much fun for JSL who just fell asleep. C’est Moi
That’s it I now officially quit the month of July. I am now going to skip it entirely since it seems to have bad things happen every year.
2004 – NHL had his febrile seizure end up in ER & Moose passed away
2005 – Mom had a really bad car accident and hasn’t been the same since.
2006 – We were in a car accident where our van nearly flipped over (we were up on two wheels at one point) – JL, NHL, Mom and I were all together.
2007 – NHL goes to the ER again TODAY!!!
I had just gotten JSL to sleep after nursing and was going to do some cleaning and work for my online computer course (taking 4 this summer). The phone was ringing and it was JL. I knew something was wrong. I simply said hello and asked what was wrong. He said the nursery school director just called. NHL was running in the bathroom (where clearly nobody was watching the 3-4 year olds . . . a fight for another day) and flew into the wall and split his chin open. So JL was heading there to take him to the ER next door (the hospital where he works) for stitches.
I got myself ready, pumped milk to take and tossed JSL into his carrier to go. We got there are NHL was triaged. They figured he needed 2-3 stitches and he was flipping out. They took him in and explained they were giving him a medicine via mouth to calm him down. Them a cream on the cut to numb it up. NHL was in my arms after the meds and within 3-5 minutes he was talking really slow and he was all floppy. It’s amazing medication. We now know just how clearly he can talk when he slows down to enunciate things.
Since it was under his chin I did not demand a plastics person to stitch him up. A PA and nurse took care of him. They put him a papoose since we knew he wouldn’t stay still (he won’t be 4 for about a month). He was “hugged” in it with his buddy that I brought from home (smart mommy thought ahead). He got us once. Right after being put in, he was really quiet and smiled – little turkey got a hand out. We all got a laugh out of it.
He was really good after the first stitch – needed 3 of them. They come out next Tuesday, which means we don’t have to debate his field trip (taking 3-4 year olds to a pool – I don’t think so). We stopped for lunch to take home and now he’s resting in his bed watching a DVD (still there from when he was sick this weekend). Thanks to the meds making him trip over his own two feet he’s not to walk.
Now I’m trying to get JSL to sleep. He’s nursing half asleep as I type. He needs a nap. I need to get him unlatched to check the big guy.
Is it August yet?

Three years ago today was the end of a horrid weekend in my life. Saturday the 16th my cockatoo Moose was suddenly very ill. For those that know birds, they typically don’t show signs of being sick until it is too late. My parents called to tell me Moose was lethargic, wouldn’t eat, drink, talk and was breathing oddly. I went over with JL and then 11 month old NHL. Moose looked so bad. My father put a heat lamp on him and we kept an eye on him. I left. A few hours later my parents called and told me to come over because Moose was not good. I left JL and NHL. We frantically called every vet in the area and nobody would see a cockatoo except one WAY up north. We got Moose into a blanket and took him to the car. My father barely started the car when I heard the most awful sound. Moose let out a strange gasp and died right then and there. I went into the house in hysterics and called JL. He came over immediately (even though shabbat was not over). He and dad buried Moose. Mom insisted on it before we could sleep.
My little feathered angel saved my baby NHL’s life. Things got horribly worse Sunday the 17th. Since I was a mess from losing my feathered baby we canceled our trip to meet JL’s family 2 1/2 hours south of here. We stayed home during the day. At about this time NHL got very HOT. He was playing on the floor with us. I just brushed up against his head. His temperature was already 102 and soaring. We got meds into him and put him in the tub. While JL gave NHL a cool tub I went to get a towel. When I came back into the bathroom NHL was there, but he wasn’t. He looked right through me. Then his eyes rolled back in his head and his body went limp. We pulled his wet body onto our bed and he started to seize and turn blue.
My worst nightmare was coming true. NHL was having a febrile seizure and was not breathing. Both JL and I had them as kids. I called 911 and told them what was happening. JL was screaming for our little boy to open his eyes. After what seemed like forever he started breathing. Minutes later 7 EMS and firemen were around our bed in our tiny bedroom. The best sound was NHL screaming, since it meant he was breathing again. After a ride to the hospital NHL was diagnosed with coxsakie virus.
