Even baby boys like remotes

JSL and I pack up and head out to get NHL from preschool soon after lunch most days (earlier if there is snow). Typically I put his coat on first and then toss mine one quickly. Here is what happened Friday as we were about to head out. As you will see this little guy has baby radar for things that he should not get!

Quickly finds the remote that was sitting on the couch next to him. I was shocked it did NOT go into his mouth. He was very proud of his accomplishment.

Look what I found

It dropped out of his hands and flipped over. He now saw all of the pretty buttons and was trying to figure out what to do next.

What can I do with this?

He flipped it over to the other side to make sure he did not miss something. Seriously, it must be a Y chromosome thing.

Must be a Y chromosome thing

Decides that the other side is much more exciting and thinks about moving it back.

I think it is the other side that I want

Then he must have been feeling guilty. Suddenly he gets this face and looks the other way, as if to pretend he had not been touching something that was not for him. Man they learn this cute and innocent things early.

I am innocent I tell you

See what I mean . . . this next one is the real kicker. How could you ever be mad at this face?

The bib says it all!

This is my new favorite picture – thanks to the big blue eyes and smile.

P.S. A big thank you to Uncle I and Aunt M for the great hat JSL is wearing. They gave it to him as part of his Chanukah gift. It fits perfectly and I love how cute it is.

My strange child

JL and I are trying to be good and do our unofficial WW again. Since counting points is difficult to do we have been trying to come up with more snacks that are decent. JL decided he wanted to get some celery for the crunch factor. One day he decided to make ants on a log with peanut butter. I suggested to him to try cream cheese since it was lower in points and would be something good from my childhood.

NHL was lurking at snack time that day. He decided to try the red ants on a log (cream cheese log with dried cranberries). Soon after he decided that as much as he liked that, he preferred the celery all alone. So here is my strange 4 year old eating his dessert of celery the other night.

Not the best photo, but shows the huge hunk of celery that he selected over other desert choices.

Yummy - celery for an after diner snack

He kept telling me that this was tasty. Plain? I do not think so, but whatever floats your boat kiddo!

Tastey snacking

Trying to hide his mouth behind the celery so I could not see him laughing and smiling.

Being shy with his celery

Mind you I should not be surprised that my child is strange, after all I am the weirdo that does not really like chocolate. Go figure, right?  No need to worry though, he received the dominant chocolate eating gene from his daddy!

Baby smiles

Even when things have been rough around here lately, a certain little guy knows just how to melt my heart and make me smile. Here, see what I mean (be sure to hover over the photos for more comments).

Those big blue eyes:

Is she talking to me?

Those squishy baby cheeks:

I think she's using that flashy thing again

Did I mention those big blue eyes that are just like his Daddy and big brother?

Hmmm. . . wonder what I can do to stop her?

Sweet, innocent and carefree.

Yup, I know I'm cute

A silly little monkey:

Time to stuff my face again

And last, but certainly not least, the smile that melts my heart (please excuse the messy food face):

The smile could just melt your heart

Enough said!

Baby review of applesauce

While we were visiting my in-laws I decided to try some natural applesauce with JSL. He is 7 1/2 month old and we have been increasing his food repertoire. He had only been given bananas, veggies, and several cereals up to this point.

JL and I both recalled NHL’s reaction the first time he had apple sauce. Here it is from March 30, 2004 when he was 7 1/2 months old:

NHL's opinion on apples

As you can see he was not really a fan. When we tasted it, we agreed it was pretty tart for a little guy who had never really had much flavor.

So fast forward to January 1, 2008 when JSL is the same age and trying some natural apple sauce that Bubbe had in her house. Note – thanks to NHL’s reaction we had our camera ready for this:

Not an apple fan, eh?

Pretty obvious that this little money did not like this either.

*sigh*

When we mixed it with a little oatmeal he was able to eat it without the agonizing look from the second photo on the top. In addition to this he stopped gagging. Since that time he has been gobbling up applesauce that we have at home with his oatmeal for dinner.

Thank goodness NHL also changed his mine. He loves to go apple picking and eat anything and everything with apples in it.
