Hurts like H-E Double Hockey Sticks

Well I went to the doctor’s office yesterday early in the afternoon. I saw the NP that I had seen on Friday. She immediately looked at my inner thigh and was shocked with the raging infection that had settled in so quickly. She told me she was putting me on antibiotics immediately. Then came the tricky part. Trying to find one that should work while considering my drug allergies. Unfortunately, she couldn’t put me on her medication of choice since it has a high risk of causing problem with people that have penicillin allergies. So, she put me on Z-Pack.

I’m also glad I spoke up. I reminded her that I was being seen Thursday by the OB to have my Group B-Step swab. So, since the antibiotic would render that pointless she did it right then and there. Then she let JL and NHL hear the little guys heart beat. NHL was too funny and was dancing to the beat. He got very concerned when it stopped. Sue quickly explained that it was because she took the machine away from me. Then I questioned her about the sizing thing from Friday. I told her I had been worrying about that. She measured me again, looked at my chart and said that it had almost been 3 weeks since my last ultrasound and was going to try to get me another one now.

So we went out and the ultrasound technician (with no personality) came and took us back for the ultrasound. I nearly flew through the ceiling. She hit my thigh not once, but 3-4 times before I got a little snippy and told her I was there and had a raging infection and it hurt when she did that. So she was doing the exam and kept telling us that it’s hard at this point to really get good measurements. She then hinted that it was worse since she couldn’t go underneath my belly by his head. So I quickly told her I would lift myself up and she could do it, just to stay AWAY from the infection on my leg. NHL had fun watching his little brother on the screen and did another dance when she put the baby’s heartbeat on to listen to.

The end result was the BIG monkey is measuring 2 to 2 1/2 weeks ahead of where he should be. Am I alarmed – sort of. With NHL I he was always measuring 2 weeks ahead on ultrasound the entire pregnancy. He came at 38 weeks, very fitting! The difference is with NHL we weren’t 100% sure when I ovulated and with this one I am positive since we were using the testing kits. Not even 3 weeks ago they were estimating the baby to be about 4lbs 3oz. . . and now 6 1/2 pounds. I didn’t look good when we went out with the results to the NP. I told her I was freaked. She told me to remember that at this stage of the game ultrasounds are usually not too accurate, but a good tool to help. She told me that they can be off by +/- 1 pound. I looked her straight in the face and told her that the +1 pound scared the you know what out of me.

Thanks to this and the infection on my leg she told me to keep my appointment for Thursday with the OB to discuss things. She told me that it just means the baby is on the large size, but it wasn’t too alarming (she remembered that big babies run on bother sides of the family). It is to me though since I know how big NHL was and how I don’t think I can birth much larger. *sigh*

So to continue my novel. . . I picked up the Z-Pack and went home to take my medicine. By that point the spot on my leg was getting even bigger. It was going down my thigh to my knee and was pretty much at the crease near my pelvic region. I took the 2 pills to start and man it hit hard. I had a rough night and took Tylenol to help take the edge of the pain off so I could attempt to sleep. This morning JL thinks it looks the same – not worse, but not better. My fear is that this antibiotic won’t cut it since it wasn’t the drug of choice. I really don’t want to end up in the hospital with IV antibiotics now.

Well on that note I am off. If you have read this long – thanks!

Red hot pain

Well, I am off to the OB’s office. I called them because I was in a lot of pain. Yesterday I noticed a sore on my inner thigh. By last night the sucker was really red and radiating heat. I’m sure it has something to do with an ingrown hair, but was beyond scared with how much worse it got over night. Right now the area involved has gotten a lot larger. On top of this, the area is red hot, radiating heat and hard as a rock. It’s getting VERY close to some sensitive areas of my body too. So the nurse told me to come in. I may need to have it drained or go on an antibiotic. So since the boys are home with me they are taking me to the doctor’s office to see a NP at 1:30.

Another bleeping car repair!

I am sitting here like a blubbering dork crying my eyes out AGAIN. As you know, last Friday my car went in for an oil change and came out with a $300 bill for new front breaks. Today I took JL’s car in for an oil change and inspection. I told the guy if it needs something else just to bring a shot gun to my house and let me out of my misery.

Well, my father just called and the service guy was there with him. I knew it was crappy news. To add insult to injury JL’s car failed inspection. It needs new front breaks. The service guy said he fell off his chair when he heard that since it was what just happened to my car. We know that we just replaced a set of breaks on JL’s car last year, but think they were the back ones. We can’t remember and it wasn’t done there. I said screw it and told them to do it – we need the car to pass inspection. They are giving us a 25% discount since dad works there and they will have record and warranty the breaks. They said 12,000 miles or a year.

*sigh*

All I can say is thank goodness JL and NHL were still home when the call came in. They are late getting to temple for the last two days of Passover (I’m not going since I can’t sit in the horrible seats they have there). I lost it and he was right there to attempt to calm me down.

BTW – The service guy just went to show my father JL’s break. They were awful. He just wanted my father to see them. We honestly do not think that the front ones have been replaced since before we got married, so they really don’t owe us much . . . it was just the rotten timing.

34 Week Appointment & $$ Car

This morning I got up with the boys. Soon after they left for the day I went to bring my car in for a simple oil change. My father gave me his car so I could leave and head to the OB’s office for my appointment with the NP at 9:45. As I was pulling into the parking lot of the doctor it was my father calling. The mechanic was there and it wasn’t good news. My cheap oil change quickly changed into a new set of front breaks. That’s two times in a row that my poor car has been in there for over $300 for simple things to be taken care of. *sigh* I guess I shouldn’t complain. These were the original breaks and the car is almost 4 years old.

Needless to say I was quite upset when I walked in for my OB appointment. I had tears rolling down my face (you have to love hormones). Thank goodness my BP was fine, weight up a little and nothing else exciting. Then I sat in a room waiting to see the NP. The office was crazy today and she was having an emergency visit with another patient. Not a problem. I just turned red from the heat in the room and was swelling. By the time she came in they were over an hour late. On an interesting note she said my swelling is minimal for where I am in my pregnancy, although a lot for me.

I told her about my aches and pains and pressure low. She told me it’s very common, especially in second or subsequent pregnancies. The little guy’s heartbeat was great. Then she measured me. Once again I measured big. I’m only 34 weeks today and measured 39. She wasn’t too alarmed, but wanted me seen next week by an OB to see how things go. She explained to me that since I was overweight to begin with and the way the little monkey is sticking out his butt could be factoring into everything. So next Thursday I am going back for the Strep B check and to have the OB I saw two weeks ago check me out. I opted for that day instead of the following Monday because if they pull me from work early it wouldn’t be with much time.

So that’s everything that’s going on now.

April break is here!

Well, April break has finally come . . . sort of. Today we have the day off at my school, but I have a commitment. Another teacher and I are taking some of the students to a special local gathering for math and science. It should be a great day for everyone. After this I’m technically off of school until Tuesday, April 17th!

I think the kids were nervous and kept asking me yesterday if I would be back after break. I told them I plan it that way, but you never know. Officially, I told school my last day would be Friday, April 27th. My OB told me that I could work to 37-38 weeks if everything was okay, but she would not allow me to go beyond that.

Even though I’m off of work I have a ton of things to do. A few quizzes to correct, projects to grade, and substitute plans to get ready. I also plan on going to school one day to get a bunch of photo copying done in case I don’t make it back after break. Tomorrow I have to bring my car in for an oil change and then head to the doctor to see the NP for my 34 week appointment. After that I start going every week.

After Passover I need to really work with JL to get the baby’s room ready. We need to empty things out of there, fix a few things up, bring the crib and other items into the room . . . and find baby clothes to wash and get ready. Next weekend we are also taking NHL to the hospital for a sibling class that is just for toddlers. Before we go we are going to give him the baby boy doll that we bought him so he can have his own baby.

On that note I am off to pack a Passover lunch to take with me to the all day event since I can’t eat the meal they are providing. *sigh*
