Kid medications pulled from market

As I sit home with my 4 year old that is sick as a dog being treated with some over the counter medications and some prescription I am irritated with the news today. Several manufactures have decided to pull their infant and toddler products from the market (full list here). One of said items is a product that I use for NHL and it works wonders since I follow the directions and my child is above the age of 2.

It really bothers me that because of a bunch of stupid adults out there that 1) Don’t bother to read the directions, 2) Don’t follow said directions or 3) do not ask a pharmacist or doctor about the medications that those of us that do will have children that are going to have to suffer. It is sad I was just going to head out and get more of those Triaminic strips for NHL to have, but who knows they may already be off the shelves.

Personally I do not believe that this will solve the problem. My theory is these people that never read/followed directions or asked about the medications will simply take the adult or older children varieties and try to figure dosing on their own.   *rolling eyes*

Sick NHL = Tired Mommy & Daddy

Sick kids are NO fun!  Especially when you have to sit and watch them as they are miserable. This is why I have not been able to blog for a while now.

NHL has not felt good since Sunday. Monday he was really congested and lethargic, but no fever. Monday night he woke up in the middle of the night with a fever. He stayed home with JSL and I Tuesday. This complicated matters since I was supposed to head to the school district for a meeting about NHL and his new school. Last night at 2:00 he woke up hysterical and burning up. He couldn’t stop coughing and ended up tossing his cookies from the ick he was hacking up.

JL and I freaked out since he was not responding to us. He looked like he did before he had the febrile seizure. I quickly called my parents and they were here within 15 minutes. While waiting for them I went to JSL and found him with a receiving blanket twisted around his head (can’t put that in there anymore since he rolls). I panicked and thank goodness he was fine.

My father helped to hold JSL who was hungry since he fell asleep at 6:40 (teething is wiping him out badly). Mom helped us to do a steam shower to open NHL’s airways. He was shivering and hysterical. We then took him to out bed to do a Fever All suppository since we didn’t think he would keep Motrin down. It took all three of us to hold him and get it done. About an hour later we gave him Motrin since the temperature was going up again.

He finally went to sleep close to 4:30 in our bed and was soaked from the fever breaking. At that point we fell asleep and the alarm went off at 6:00. JL opted to stay home since the boys have been up the last three nights and he was exhausted.

We took NHL to see the doctor at 11:30. She was great. She was able to look in his ears and immediately told us they were both infected and red. Then listened to his chest and told us the croup also had a wheeze and he had bronchitis.  So he’s on an antibiotic and Muscinex since we don’t want to do albuterol now. She also suggested taking his temperature rectally – ummm. . . . I DON’T THINK SO!!!! He’s 4 and too darn strong to fight. So we sucked it up and got an ear thermometer per her suggestion.

Kudos to Target for understanding kids. We went there since it was by the doctor’s office and fell in love with the pharmacy. They not only flavor medications for free, they also have incentives for kids. They handed NHL a chart and stickers to mark off each time he takes his medicine (3 times a day for 10 days). Once it is filled up he can bring it in for a prize. You know a mom must have come up with this. Hey it works and he’s been great with it.

Now I am off to try to get JSL who is a miserable teething mess to bed. NHL will be home with me again tomorrow and we’re debating Friday since he starts his new nursery school Monday. He needs closure, but it may be worse since he hasn’t been to the school since last Thursday.

Now if only we can get more than 3-4 hours of combined sleep tonight we may be able to semi-function tomorrow. *YAWN*

Extreme Blog Makeover

Switching from LiveJournal to my own nifty new TheAngelForever blog space has been a wonderful experience.  This truly is my home away from home. However, like my house my blog could certainly use some cosmetic work. Oh Extreme Home Makeover Team – I too could use your help, but that’s another story entirely. *sigh*

My husband, total techno geek, has helped me to set up WordPress plugins and other fun stuff that I liked to make my blog world colorful, but still something was missing. He quickly designed a new banner with my boys on it, but it still doesn’t seem like home (the rainbow was just a quick fix).

As a new SAHM I am desperately trying to find out who I am. Am I mommy, wife, former teacher . . . who am I? I am TheAngelForever — C’est Moi, but how would I show this on my blog. My banner must do this. It must show who I really am. After all TheAngelForever is the name I used when I meet my hubby all those years ago. TheAngelForever was the name I used when I had hockey season tickets, it was the name I had when I was in college, when I got married, when I got my first teaching job, and when I had my boys. When I made my blog I could have changed the name, but I was attached to this identity.

So to help me to find myself I NEED an EXTREME blog makeover. I would be so greatful if I was selected by the contest to have said makeover for my own space in blogging world.

New rocking chair

Last Sunday we traveled about 2 1/2 hours each way to help celebrate JL’s grandmother’s 93rd birthday. JL’s parents, sister and her family, aunt, uncle and their three children and all of their kids were there. It was at a really fancy shmancy hotel. Several of his cousin’s had just heard about JSL – not sure how they were never told that I was pregnant, but it happened. I guess that shows how close people are in JL’s family (sad).

We had a nice time visiting with everyone. Grandma had her two children, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandkids all there to celebrate with her (along with spouses of everyone) and was a little overwhelmed with what was going on. NHL had a blast seeing his cousin AG and JSL enjoyed smiling at everyone. JL took a lot of photos, but I don’t have them to share now. I will update those later.

Uncle D and Aunt R gave JSL a gift for his birth. The day before they went to a craft show and bought him a hand painted rocking chair. It’s gorgeous and both boys will get a lot of use from it. Here are some photos.

Soon after I took these photos of the rocking chair I placed JSL in it for the first time. Here is his reaction:

Next it was time for both of the boys together. Please note how both of them are not able to smile together, but a silly face works.

After that it was time for tacking daddy – or maybe they just wanted to watch the television:

And last but not least my three boys!

Thursday Red Swaparooni Surprise

Thursday afternoon after a doctor’s appointment for NHL and meeting with his providers JL walked out and found a package on the porch. He quickly brought it inside and announced that my package was here. Sure enough my box of goodies from the Shades of Red Swaparooni had arrived from Coolbeansmama. I was floored since she sent it on Tuesday.

Here’s a photo of my Shades of Red Swap package:

 Red Swaparooni goodies!!!!

Included in my goodies:

1. Red journal with cool polka dot buckle on it.

2. Red tot stapler – something I completely needed since I am always having issues finding the stapler in the house.

3. Word-Find book to do when I need mindless entertainment. These are my favorite to do when I’m just too tired to read and don’t want to watch tv.

4. Sweedish fish – YUMMY! My faorites and if NHL is nice I may share with him.

5. Hershey dark chocolate bar – something for JL to make him happy.

6. Amazing Rubbermaid organizer. My plan is to put this in the kitchen to hold my supplies to keep them easy to locate and safe from the boys.

7. Bright new pot holders, something that we are always in need of for baking things.

8. Bookmark bling as Coolbeansmama called it. She made these herself and are great for marking the stack of books that are waiting for me to read. (I still need to start reading Twilight ASAP)

Coolbeansmama did a wonderful job selecting items for me. Hopefully her package from moi will arrive soon. Once she gets it I will post photos of the items I sent to her. Thanks again Coolbeansmama for everything!
