Thanksgiving 2007 – a photo recap

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays (actually I think it is my favorite). There is just something extra special about spending time catching up with family, playing games with the kids, and eating amazing food!

This year we were lucky enough not to have to brave the roads with the boys. We stayed home and went to my Aunt S and Uncle M’s house. Their two kids (Cousin J and Cousin A) came home for the holiday. Cousin AC was also here to add to the fun, along with my parents and grandmother. In addition to this Uncle J, Aunt A, and Cousin Y all came into town. We were all surprised when we got there to see that Cousin Han was also in from Israel. I am not too sure when the last time I saw him, but it was wonderful seeing him (he is absolutely amazing with the kids – as is Cousin Y).

One realization hit hard – my little cousins have all grown up. It is so hard for me to believe how my younger cousins are almost all adults. I know this should not seem as such a shock since I am now a mother with two children of her own. Ah, the memories are wonderful and hopefully there will be many more in the years ahead.

Rather than bore everyone with what happened I am going to do it with lots of photos. Here are photos of Thanksgiving.

Here are pictures of JSL’s first Thanksgiving. As you will see being cuddly and playing with everyone made the poor little guy tired:

Both of the boys were spoiled with lots of amazing gifts from everyone. Cousin AC gave them fun books that we will read to them often. Uncle J and Aunt A picked out FUN toys and some Chanukah books. Here are photos of JSL playing with his gift (which NHL also loves) followed by NHL playing with his neat soccer game.

While the turkey was cooking a little bit more, and everyone was snacking on goodies before the main meal, Papa took NHL down to the basement. NHL was in heaven. He never knew that Aunt S and Uncle M have a pinball machine. It was just fixed and working again and they were having a blast. Here are some photos of NHL and Papa enjoying the pinball machine:

Soon it was time to sit down for our amazing Thanksgiving feast. Here are photos of almost everything that was prepared by Aunt S (JL brought the pomegranate seeds and the zucchini with dried cranberry bread).

After dinner while cleaning up there were a few funny moments. Check out this photo and tell me what is wrong.

Then all of the sugary goodness was set out for everyone to drool over. Here are the items we had before us:

As previously seen JSL was exhausted from all of the excitement and even NHL fell asleep on the way home. Here is one last shot of JSL’s 1st Thanksgiving as he was peaceful in his portable highchair at the table.

Thanks to my entire family that was there for making it such a special day. Aunt S, you are the best and I only hope that some day I will be able to pull off a holiday feast like you do.

More photos of the weekend with everyone coming soon!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Where have the days of sleeping late on Thanksgiving gone?

Never mind, they are long gone. I believe the last one was 5 years ago before we conceived NHL. Oh well, the boys are well worth the lack of sleep. Unless I am just saying that thanks to sleep deprivation ;)

Since we are all still in PJ’s here, there are no new photos to share. Instead I wanted to bring back some old memories of NHL’s first Thanksgiving. (photos of JSL’s first to follow soon – his outfit is currently in an emergency wash – Ooops!)

For NHL’s first Turkey Day we went to JL’s sister’s. Here are some photos of the day. Just remember NHL was only 3 months old (JSL is 6 months old today).

Here he is sitting on Grandpa’s lap:

I think he had a little too much turkey milk:

Again may you and your families have a happy and healthy Thanksgiving today and for years to come!

Confuzzled baby anyone?

Seriously I think JSL is confuzzled. The little guy is six months old and does NOT want to eat slop baby food. As previously mentioned our doctor suggested trying some finger foods. We have now thanks to more issues when trying butternut squash last week (did rice cereal and oatmeal before that). Here is JSL’s reaction:

As you can see from the face he was not amused with his first veggie taste. Soon after starting this he clamped his mouth shut and refused to budge. Then he started crying hysterically. Seriously what gives?

We gave up on baby food and tried just doing Cherios and the Gerber puffs that are sweet potato flavored. Over the last two days he has decided that he loves them. He gobbled up a bunch at lunch and dinner today. So tonight I tried butternut squash again. He tolerated  4-5 little bites of it and then clamped shut – so a mild improvement since he was not gagging. Then he ate a ton of the previously mentioned finger foods.

Another milestone is that JSL is very distracted with nursing now. He still loves it (especially after the baby feeding trauma), but he plays and rolls, rather than just nurse. The other day he was playing with my nipple shield and the following is what he did to himself.

JL and I were laughing so hard. He went and grabbed his camera quickly while I made myself decent for a photo (no boob shots here people). This playing with my shield led me to try to ditch it. By golly the little guy got it Sunday! Finally after six months JSL was nursing without anything. Heck he was obsessive about it and crying for my chest. Needless to say I was in agony with blisters forming quickly. *sigh* When I tried to use the shield he snubbed his nose at me and cried. So we are using it on and off to help me avoiding cracking and bleeding.

I am telling you he is lucky he is cute and cuddly.

Notice his obsession as witnessed by JL’s camera:

And now kisses all around:

I savor these moments and am thankful for them because before I blink he will be having his own kids.

Weekend Review (11/16 – 11/18)

It is hard to believe that the weekend before Thanksgiving is already over. Time just keeps flying past me and I need to remember to stop and enjoy it while the boys are still little.

Friday night we were all exhausted from a busy week post visit to Uncle I, Aunt M and SG. JL and I actually went to bed at 9:00 to warm up and watch television. We fell asleep quickly and were rudely woken up my JSL at about 11:00. He was hysterical. JL rocking him did not work. I nursed him and he was not too thrilled with that. Each time JL would get him to sleep and get him into his crib he would wake up. His head would shoot up and he would start  bitch -er chatting loudly. We were afraid he would wake NHL up. Fast forward numerous attempts to when we tried to get him to sleep in our bed. HA! The little monster would pop his head up, scootch over to me, pull up to my face on the pillow and LAUGH! I kid you not this is what my 6 month old did. After a second nursing attempt JL was finally able to get him to sleep and put him into his crib at about 2 in the morning.

Of course NHL was up at 6:30 and woke his little brother up. JL and I were walking and talking zombies. My parents offered to have us go to their house for lunch. They said they would watch the boys so we could nap (never happened). Thanks to little sleep two nights in a row we canceled going out to dinner with friends.

PJ status remained until close to 11:00 when we finally moved our rears to go to the library. My copy of Deceptively Delicious was waiting for me there. We wanted to check it out to see if we wanted to purchase a copy (we did). Before getting dressed JL read to the boys. Here are some photos of this boy bonding time.

Everyone concentrating on the book:

After the library we went to Nana and Papa’s house. Here they had a fun new toy for NHL to use with the cars at  their house. Here is NHL setting up some cars:

Lunch was really yummy (and nutritious too). Our friends actually stopped by and we chatted with them for quite some time before they left to shop. At about 4:30 we left and went to the grocery store. We got lots of things and were home at about 6:00 when we had to figure out dinner. Thankfully the boys slept nicely the rest of the evening.

Sunday morning we took the boys to the craft and story time at temple. This month was all about Chanukah since it starts December 4th. Here is NHL with his craft (the candles come off and on to "light" ):

After this we ran a bunch of errands (lunch, Kohls, Target, BJ’s) and then went home to make pumpkin pancakes with a secret ingredient!

JSL had a rough evening thanks to teething and still refuses to eat solid food – *sigh*  He will tolerate Cheerios and the Gerber sweet potato puffs, but cries and clamps his mouth shut to rice cereal, oatmeal and even butternut squash. I am calling it quits for a little while. A nice plus is yesterday JSL finally figured out how to nurse without the shield and is very happy. So my poor body will now have issues after 6 months that new mommies go through.  All I can say is I will cope and thank goodness for teething tablets.
