My question this week is inspired by my love of reading.

What are you currently reading? Any suggestions on new books are always welcome!

Last night I finally started to read Breaking Dawn. There, I admit it. . .  I am a Twilight fan! I

If you have no clue what I am talking about, hide your head in shame (j/k). Seriously, Stephenie Meyer’s books Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and now Breaking Dawn are Young Adult best sellers that are flying off the shelves like crazy to adults and teens. Last summer when I was busy nursing my then infant son I wanted something else to read after finish up the last Harry Potter book. I kept reading about the Twilight books and people going crazy about Bella, Edward and Jacob. I cringed when I heard that the premise was a vampire story. Still, I gave it a shot and was instantly sucked into the story line. Meyer does an amazing job telling her story and making you believe in her characters. So thanks to Laura, I now have her copy of Breaking Dawn and am anxiously reading every second I can. After that I hope to listen to my first adult book on CD. I am waiting to "read" The Host by Meyer so I can multitask. I tried reading this and just could not stay with it thanks to the set up. I have heard once into the book it goes quickly.

In addition to this, NHL and I are in the middle of book #6 in the Magic Tree House books (Afternoon on the Amazon). If you have never read this series, I highly recommend them. Mary Pope Osborne does an amazing job mixing history, science, geography and other goodies into these beginner chapter book. They are also great to keep kids and adults interested in what happens to Jack and Annie. FYI – there are already 39 of these magical books.

Happy reading all!

Introducing Sparky

Did you know that static electricity is quite entertaining?  Seriously, it is!

Sunday we went to a local place to celebrate NHL’s birthday with a friend (think Chuck E Cheese with amusement park rides – inside). At one point NHL decided that he wanted to go on the indoor playground. JL thought it would be fun to follow NHL up and take photos of him inside. I went to watch them come down the big slide.

As JL was flying down at me I noticed something. He had sparks flying out of his pants. Yes, the static electricity was quite evident not only thanks to visible sparks, but also the snapping sound that accompanies it.

The little guy soon wanted to join Daddy and big brother in the fun. This meant that I took over control of the camera. I opted to do a video. When we arrived home we decided to check out the photos and videos. Sure enough, we were able to see and hear the static electricity on JL’s pants!

NHL thought it was hilarious and wanted to see it over and over. "Make Daddy go back up the slide and down!"

Who knew?!   Here is the video so you can witness the wonders of static electricity yourself.

Later on JL was talking to Laura on the phone and told her about the video. She immediately gave him a new nickname –> Sparky! So please help me to welcome hubby’s new nickname.

Summer Fun

5 Minutes for Mom is having a Summer fun photo contest.

Our family went to the lake one weekend and both of the boys had a blast. The most memorable parts were my youngest skippering the boat and smiling for the first time that day (teething stinks) and my big guy’s first sand castles.

Papa’s BIG birthday

My parents and I have always been close. I have been blessed to live near them and watch them become amazing grandparents from the day NHL was born. My father has patience at times with the boys that I never knew existed. He loves to play with them, and especially take them on amusement park rides.

In July 2004 we started a tradition with Papa and NHL. They go to a local amusement park and get their photo taken together on the Merry-go-round. This year we went back again for our fifth photo.

Riding time with Papa

Today my father turns the big 60! We will celebrate with them for cake tonight and then this weekend a family party at the lake in his honor.

Happy Birthday Dad!

Dad, thanks for being you and never complaining when we call in the middle of the night, or running over in an emergency. You have taught NHL important lessons, like playing Snood, "Yankees Stink,"  and how to sing Elvis and Neil Diamond.

We love you and even your crazy LA Dodger ways!
