Croquet for Columbus Day

If the weather would stay like it is right now I would be perfectly happy. The weekend was absolutely gorgeous and 70 degrees each day. The sun was out and the sky clear. It even made sick me want to go outside to enjoy it for a little while.

Saturday while JSL was taking a nap, JL and NHL went outside to get some energy out. It was time to make him run, jump, play and get some sun. While outside I decided to take some photos of the boys playing croquet.

Croquet for Columbus Day

Today the two little guys are home with me. We hope to be able to get outside to enjoy the weather while it is here. The end of the week calls for temperatures barely making it to the 50’s. Talk about a major change!

Enjoy the fall while it is here.

Cure for a cold

This morning hubby took care of the boys so I could get some extra rest. Why was he so sweet to try to give me this extra sleep? He knew that I was up most of the night thanks to a certain issue.

What was the issue you ask?  It was quite simple –> My nose decided to have a life of its own and complicate mine.

I had forgotten how evil colds are and this one has quickly reminded me of their power to control all things.

Luckily I stil have creative license with my mind. While unable to sleep in bed this morning I thought of a perfect cure for the common cold. Here it is . . . .

Cure for the Common Cold

Sure, it may be a little messy. However, if used correctly it could easily clean out the congestion in a person’s nose as well as their sinuses. Can you imagine the pressure that would be relieved from this bad boy?

Can you tell I need some more sleep?

I am off to plan out the day. Lots to do and not a lot of time to rest, tis the life of a mommy!

My question for this week is inspired by October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Has anyone in your life been diagnosed with breast cancer? If so please feel free to share.

Right before NHL was born my father’s sister received some horrible news. My family actually tried to hide it from me at first because I was SO very pregnant. I knew something was going on and told them I wanted to know. They finally shared with me that my Aunt S had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I remember those days, sitting at my grandmothers house and aunts just being there with everyone.

For years Aunt S had been going for tests and watching herself because of a family history of breast cancer. Suddenly she was faced with the news that she had always feared. NHL was born and soon after she had her first of many surgeries. Those months were very hard to witness as Aunt S longed to hold her new nephew but could not risk it.

Aunt S has been a breast cancer survivor for five years now. We are so lucky that she was on top of things and caught it early. Growing up I spent a lot of time with Aunt S and Uncle M before they had children. I would play dress up, watch videos (Barry Manilow concerts – they all corrupted me), and bake with her. Both of my boys are also very close with Aunt S. NHL spent the day with Aunt S and my grandmother the day JSL was born. Thankfully when JSL was born Aunt S was able to snuggle him lots. Here are a few photos of my Aunt S, a true hero in my life and most importantly a brave breast cancer warrior.

Loves learning

If given the choice between a book and a toy, what would your child pick?

Most days NHL would select a book. A puzzle may be the only item that would tempt him away from a book. During Rosh Hashana NHL packed a bag of books to take with us to services so he could keep quiet and busy. One of the books is his new favorite about all 50 states. He quickly learned which one was our state and where other people in our life live.

About two weeks ago NHL went to a birthday party for a new classmate. We were shocked when each child was given a Melissa & Doug 51 piece large floor puzzle of the United States. I kid you not, each of the kids (his entire class was invited) received one of these amazing puzzles.

A few days after the party NHL asked if he could open the puzzle and put the states together. He quickly put the edges rogether and then proceded to put the entire United States together.

Learning the 50 states

It was fascinating listening to NHL. He recognized several of the states from their shapes. He knew many of them thanks to the book that he has from Nana and Papa. The kindergarten kid also recalled some of the facts from the book. It is truly amazing what a sponge my big guy can be.

Here he is showing off his puzzle.

Proud puzzle boy

Of course I had some fun too. Check out my caption by hovering over the photo below.

I can see Russia from my house
