Snapple Memories Revived

While in college, I developed a few not too wonderful habits. Though I had no interest in drinking alcoholic beverages, I was very addicted to Mountain Dew for breakfast and Snapple Ice Tea for lunch. Several years into school, I kicked most caffeine intake to help with my headaches. That lasted until my little guy was born and suddenly I needed a small amount of caffeine to keep my headaches away.

With the warm weather coming quickly, coffee is not always an option. While my beverage of choice is usually water in my giant Nalgene water bottle, I do like to have a special treat. Rather than crave chocolate, I now like to treat myself to a cold glass of this:

Snapple Love

Yes, this is a giant bottle of Snapple Diet Peach Ice Tea that lasts me quite a while. Of course, it brings me back to my college days. I think I missed this, but will admit that there is no desire to restart my Mountain Dew habit.

Aside from a cold glass of water during the warmer months, what is your beverage of choice?

Yom HaShoah Candles

Today, April 19, 2012, is Yom HaShoah. On this day, people around the world remember the Six Million Jewish people and others that were senselessly murdered by Nazis during World War II. I knew the day was coming in April, but I have to admit  that I forgot the exact date until this arrived at our house:

Yom HaShoah Candle

These candles are sent to families to light the evening before Yom HaShoah. We do this to remember the lives lost and promise that we will not allow this to happen again. The color is the same as the yellow star badges that the Nazis made Jews wear during their occupation of Europe.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Of course, simply lighting the candles is not enough. We must make sure that future generations know the truth about the Holocaust. Each day, Holocaust survivors are passing away and with them their personal stories could fade away if we do not make sure to pass them along to our children and generations to come. I know that as my boys get older, TechyDad and I will do our part. We will make sure to read them books on the subject, visit the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, and make sure that they never forget about the Six Million that lost their lives simply because of their religious choice.

On this Holocaust Remembrance Day when we know more terror is happening in other places this very moment – teach your children about tolerance. Make sure your family learns about other religions, cultures, and people. The more knowledge we have the better we will be able to understand the beauty of differences among us.

The Cupcake Club – Book Giveaway

Cupcakes and books are two topics that I love to talk about on my blog. I often write about baking, taste testing, and observing beautiful cupcake creations.

Cupcake Love

Most Tuesdays, I write about books that we are reading, or something related to a literacy topic. Last week, Tuesday Tales meshed both of these topics into a delicious new book review for The Cupcake Club: Peace, Love, and Cupcakes. In my review of the new book, I explained that this new series is written by a 9 year old girl and her mother.

Phone Photo Fun

When we got our new Android phones, I knew that it was going to be a whole new world. Little did I know that only days after getting Violet, the one app that I was intrigued with for iPhone would be released for everyone with Android. Hello, Instagram.

Hello Instagram

I love that Robyn, from Robyn’s Online World keeps people posted about apps for not only iPhone, but also Androids. Thanks to her and others using Instagram, I knew it was something I wanted to try. What’s not to like about an app that allows you to take photos, share them on multiple platforms, and play with fun filters?!

Of course, once I was on Instagram and really paying attention to the photos from friends, I wanted something else. I noticed some were making collages to post multiple images within their single Instagram. I read one that was suggested and went to check it out.

PhotoGrid Fun

PhotoGrid was put onto my phone and right away I was able to make a collage of scenes from my day. Here it is:

First PhotoGrid Creation

I’m sure there is a lot more that I can do with this, but it was still fun. After a day at a birthday party with my son, I decided to use some of my photos from the day to make another collage with my phone. This was the first one:Take 1 of party collage

I like that I can flip photos around and move them within a frame. This is certainly not the limits of the app. With one push of a button, you can change the layout of the collage as well. Here is another version:Take 2 of party collage

Are you an Instagram fan? What other apps do you like to use for photo fun on your phone? Please share any in the comments below.

It's Me

Disclosure: These were all free apps that I decided to test on my own. I enjoyed them and wanted to share my experience.
