My question this week is inspired by memories from my childhood.

Was there a toy that you always wanted as a child that you never received for one reason or another? If so what was it and did you purchase it for your children?

Growing up the kids in our neighborhood were always outside in the summer. We were a very close group of kids. We would play on swing sets, ride bikes, sit outside and sing, walk to the park, write newspapers for our block, and do anything we could to be together and enjoy the freedom of the summer.

Even with all of this I recall always wishing that I had a toy outside. For some strange reason I always wished that my parents had bought my brother and me the Little Tykes Cozy Coupe. I thought it would be so fun for imagine play. As an adult babysitting for children I secretly hoped that some day I would be able to get one for my children.

We never did buy a Cozy Coupe when NHL was younger. I think we always wanted activities that would keep him on his feet to work on his low muscle tone. Still he loved them when he had the chance to use them here and there.

Fast forward to Saturday. My parents came home from buying some bagels to take to the lake. There was a big garage sale set up across the street from their house. They went over and saw some toys. They are always looking for things to keep at their house for the grand kids. They bought a few items including . . . you guessed it a Cozy Coupe for a few dollars.

NHL was thrilled, but JSL was in his glory. He was able to play with it and be outside on his own. Here he is playing on it Thursday afternoon.

Busy boys and Mama too

So many things to blog, but no real time to do it now. Before I will have time to blog I must:

  1. Finish the two huge loads of laundry.
  2. Keep the boys entertained – challenging since one is getting canine teeth and rather cranky today.
  3. Edit photos and get them ready for Flickr and blogging.
  4. Catch up on sleep. Neh,  who am I kidding that will never happen!
  5. Feed the boys and attempt rest/nap times after.
  6. Weed the piles on the dining room table, assuming I can given #2 and of course running up and down the basement stairs thanks to #1.
  7. Help NHL write his thank you notes. . . must purchase/make cards first.
  8. Add more items to this list because I know there is a lot more I can not think of now.

This weekend was fabulous. Going to the lake was wondering to spend time with family and celebrate my father’s birthday. NHL can not stop talking about spending time and doing things with his Cousin B and Cousin H. He already asked me to print off photos from yesterday of him with them to put into his photo album.

Yesterday was NHL’s 5th birthday. We had his family party at my parents and it went very well. Mount Dinocake was a success and photo will follow soon. Of course thanks to the party, we now have a pile of gifts on the love seat in our living room. JL and I plan to tackle the upstairs room bit by bit to make it into a playroom. We will weed the things up there first and then as we move items up will weed from the living room.

I decided to do a Wordle today. If you have never heard of it before, this is mine:

Wordle 8-18-2008

Neat to see what the words are that I have used on my blog lately. If you would like to make one of you own click on over here to do one. Let me know if you do, I would love to see yours.

The laundry is calling, so I best be off to work on it while the two boys are playing nicely.

Clickity, clickity, click – Blog the Recession

Are you constantly trying to re-budget your household expenses thanks to the rising costs of everything from heating, fuel, electricity, food and breathing alone? Seriously, as a newer SAHM this is something my husband and I think about all the time, especially as we head out and about to stores. With the winter coming so many of us are holding our breaths to see what the cost of keeping warm will be in a few short months.

So my faithful readers, this is where you can help. Thanks to a fun and brilliant idea from Kristen over at Motherhood Uncensored,  we can help each other through this time. Her fabulous idea is called:

What is Blog the Recession you ask? Well, click on over with the button above and read a little about it here:

For those of us with ads on our blogs we receive a certain amount of money for each page view. Thanks to the huge surge in people viewing blogs daily on readers (like Blog Lines and Google Reader),we do not benefit from this money. Sure it is only a few cents for each page view, but it adds up and every little bit counts. So thanks to Blog the Recession, we are encouraging people to take that little extra effort to click over to the blog, look around and even leave some comments to make blog owners feel the love and earn a little in the process.

Please head on over to Motherhood Uncensored and join in the fun. There is a list of all of the participants so you can see who has joined in so far. Remember every click of your mouse helps and we all appreciate it.

My question this week is inspired by memories of years past.

What is something that people would be surprised to know about you?

People would probably be  surprised to know that I was a HUGE hockey fan. In college I started to follow our local team thanks to my Uncle M. For several years I had season tickets for the team. If I do say so myself, I had an amazing seat. My ticket was three rows behind the home bench and center ice. Let me tell you I learned some interesting sayings from the hockey players! It was also through hockey that I went on fabulous road trips. We used to go all over to see games and even went to training camp for the NHL team several times. Would you believe that I even bid and won a game worn jersey of my favorite player? I sure did and it will make a fun Halloween costume in the future. Those were fun days.

It is thanks to my love for hockey that people often do not believe me that my oldest son’s initials were not purposely given. It was only after we named him that we realized that people would later tease me. Oh well, jokes on them we can get fun licensed merchandise for the big guy with his initials on it!

Here is my NHL back in 2004 wearing some of his hockey clothing.
