Another holiday storm!

Okay Mr. Groundhog. . . you best go and hide. I think a lot of people in the northeast are quite upset with you. Here it is days before spring and we have another storm that dumps 15+ inches of snow on our area. WTH?!?! The sad part is on Wednesday it was almost 70 degrees here and the snow from Valentine’s Day was nearly gone. Now we have to start all over again. I joked with JL and asked him if groundhog is kosher!

Yes, so St. Patrick’s Day now has a snow storm for 2007. In our area the airport officially measured in with 15 inches, but I think we had a little more here. Poor JL busted his rear digging us out. At least this time the roads were plowed, but man what a mess that was. Below are some photos from today.

Now it will be fun to see what holiday the next storm comes for this winter season . . . mind you by then it will technically be spring.

Hockey time!

It was time to settle NHL down while JL is outside shoveling AGAIN. So I opted for no more kiddie shows. I noticed there was a hockey game on where the Sabres are playing. Perfect, so I put it on. The following is a conversation NHL and I had:

NHL: “Mommy, is that hockey?”

Me: “Yes, NHL it is”

NHL: “Oh, okay. Where are Uncle I and Aunt M?”

I was shocked that he noticed it was Buffalo playing and thought of them. Of course little does he know they will be at the game in Atlanta tomorrow when the Sabres play.

NHL Funny!

Tuesday night we decided it was time to tackle NHL to cut his toe nails. Note to all – this is a huge production number that typically requires two adults to hold flailing limbs in order to accomplish the task.

So I did NHL’s fingers first and he was great. Then it was time to go for the feet. So I told him it was time to do the toes. He looked me straight in the face and said the following:

“No Mommy, I don’t want to. We can wait until Passover!”

I nearly died laughing! –>

Anyway, I called JL in to hear what he said and to assist me on the more difficult task at hand. He started to flip out. We tried to tell him he was a big boy, but that only worked so much. Then JL and I opted to slightly bribe him for better than usual behavior. That worked for one foot, but the second was a lot worse. He did count to 30 and we promised to try to be done by then (thank goodness he isn’t that quick counting yet).

Later on JL explained where the Passover thing came from. Apparently the other day NHL saw some of our Passover things that were put away for a few more weeks. NHL wanted one of the goodies and JL explained that he had to wait until Passover. LOL – Goes to show he applied what he heard to a different scenario!

Purim 2007

Last Saturday night was the start of Purim. We took NHL to the Megillah reading at night where kids and even some adults dress up in costumes. NHL wore his monkey costume that looks like Curious George. He also brought his George and had fun using the graggers. Everything was fine until Eeyore showed up. The Executive Director of temple wore a full body Eeyore costume that sent him over the edge. We won’t even mention what happened when the rabbi showed up as Winne the Pooh and cantor as a frog/lizard. Eventually they took their “heads” off and NHL calmed down (it took QUITE some time). As time went on he actually smiled and waves to Eeyore and laughed about being afraid of them. We shall see if this experience helps us next time we got to Chuck E Cheese.

Below are photos from the service.

The Rash Saga from Yesterday

Friday morning NHL seemed so much better. The rash had lightened and the little guy wasn’t swollen at all. We decided to let him try nursery school and ask them to watch for anything and to call us immediately. Since we were convinced that the culprit of this entire allergic mess is somewhere in the classroom or center we wrote a note to his teachers and the director to give them a heads up.

JL just went to give NHL his Benedryl again at about 11:00. On his way there he received a call from daycare saying that something was up with NHL. By the time JL got there NHL started to complain that his legs hurt. He would NOT let anyone near him and was screaming again. I left school and eventually met the boys home. When they arrived I was able to get his pants off (with lots of screaming, hooting and hollering). Since he was so much better in the morning our guess is even more focused on something at daycare triggering him to get worse. We got the message from our doctor to take NHL to the ER immediately and to have them update with information.

We arrived at the ER at about 2:00 and got back into our car at about 7:40. The doctor there said it definitely looks like an allergic reaction, but he is worried about the swelling in his knees and other joints (one blood test came back slightly elevated that was related to that). They said that the likelihood of it becoming an anaphalatic reaction was slim to none with such a HUGE skin reaction. Of course he did say it could happen, but very unlikely. They also said they didn’t feel the need for steroids and just to use lots of benedryl and to call our doctor tomorrow. So we’re going to call him at one point today and will bring up a few things and demand a referral to get into an allergist ASAP next week. My biggest concern is why it’s so much worse at daycare.

Now it’s time to figure out lunch for all of us.
