Rash update and VERY sick NHL

From earlier today: JL stayed home with NHL today to take him to get seen at the doctor. Apparently they did not feel that it is anything viral since there are no other symptoms. Now we need to figure out what is causing this so-called allergic reaction. NHL was put on an antihistamine to try to help with the symptoms for now since Benedryl just knocks him out. Hopefully we won’t see this happen again. In thinking about items that may have caused this we wondered if it had anything to do with the painting they did at daycare. They just moved the kids back into the room earlier this week. We shall see what happens and how we can try to figure everything out.

From earlier this evening: Things are NOT going well with NHL. Tonight he’s been complaining more and more about hurting. Eventually he went to the couch and started whining. Now he’s in complete and total hysterics. He’s been screaming that everything hurts for 40+ minutes now. I called the emergency doctor number since his hands were swelling really badly and radiating heat. He’s so exhausted, but we’re afraid to let him sleep since his eyes were rolling back funny (again it may have been since he is so tired on top of all of this). I just have thoughts of when he had his febrile seizure and stopped breathing. *sigh*

Update from now: After giving NHL the benedryl that the doctor told us to do and cooling him off some he’s zonked out on the couch. We thought we were heading to the ER, but the doctor said to give it 40 minutes to see if he would calm down at all. He’s snoring and sleeping now, but he looks so miserable. I have a feeling it may be a really LONG night and we could end up in the ER. Below are some photos of things.

Name that mystery rash!

After dinner tonight NHL was sitting at the dining room table coloring and I was working on some vocabulary lists for my classes. For one reason or another I looked up and noticed a rash on his neck. As I looked further they were behind his ear, on his face, and on his hands. JL came in and helped me to look further. With screams protesting our every move we saw tons more on his stomach, back, and both legs (his poor belly button looks awful). They are all over his body!

Needless to say, being in my 3rd trimester an unidentified rash scares the you know what out of me. I called our doctor and he said to give NHL benedryl and to be cautious and stay away from him just in case. So, right now we’re trying to calm him down and see what happens. Depending on things he may or may not be going to school tomorrow (it may just be hives after all). All I know is he gotten very itchy and it in a FOUL mood. My parents just came over to look at it now and NHL seems happier in a cool bath.

Requesting a dull moment please!

Uncle I, Aunt M, and Wedgie Fest Weekend

This week went by so quickly that I never had time to update and post photos from last weekend. Last weekend my brother and sister-in-law came into town to visit. They claim it was to see everyone, but we all know it was mostly to see and play with NHL. He absolutely adores his Uncle I and Aunt M. This was probably the last time we will see them before the new little one arrives in May and then until their new arrival comes into the world in September. There’s a major baby boom going on in the family, can you tell?!?!

We had a great time visiting with everyone and spending the weekend with lots of the family. Saturday night we met up with my grandmother, Aunt S, and Uncle M for dinner at Nothing But Noodles. YUMMY!

On Sunday we went to my parents house to have breakfast with Nana, Papa, Uncle I, and Aunt M. After that Uncle I and NHL played with the trains together and Papa taught NHL the fine art of wedgie making. It’s sad to say the little weirdo actually liked it and to this day will request a wedgie. I don’t think he’s been getting them quite right.

Here are a few photos from the weekend.

That’s all for now. I will update later with things from this weekend including a visit from JL’s parents.

Results are in . . . sort of.

Here’s an update on my 3 hour glucose test from yesterday.

The nurse in the morning said she would call me back when she had the results (this was at 9:40). At 2:30 this afternoon I had no call back and was angry about it. I asked JL to call the office to see what he could find out. With going back to school Monday I need to know if I have to get an appointment with a specialist or not. The nurse immediately took his call. She told him that she didn’t call since she needed one of the doctors to go over the results since values were high. She said they would get back to me Monday. I went crazy and insisted to know more. I wanted my numbers. So DH was sweet after listening to me rant and called them back.

Not long after this the nurse called me back. She said she was sorry about the communication mess up. Apparently she told JL something wrong. I didn’t technically fail the test. Only one of my values was elevated above the cut off (the 2 hour mark – and the numbers were fishy), but she needs a doctor to weigh in on what they want to do.

I told her that I vaguely recall that it was the 2 hour mark last time that I didn’t make it by and said they may want to look at those past results to see. She said they would call me Monday and let me know what the plan of action is with the doctors.

As I told her I’m going to be even more careful than I have been with my diet. I do eat more carbohydrates than I should (since they don’t make me sick), but I don’t eat straight sugar after fasting like that. If I have a bagel it’s a whole grain one and I put low sugar PB on it for protein most times. In addition to this we always do whole grain pasta with LOTS of veggies, and high fiber whole grain breads. Since my mother is diabetic (and so is JL’s) we are very careful.

On that note I am off to try to relax and take care of NHL who apparently now thinks that you need to get sick when people come here from Buffalo and not just when we go to Buffalo. His temperature is rising and was 100.6 just now. . . so I gave him motrin and will see what happens.

Time to dig out!

NHL decided that he wanted to go outside and help daddy to dig out of the snow (this was JL’s 2nd of 3 trips out today). This of course meant that my almost 7 month pregnant self had to waddle out too. So just before noon we went outside for about an hour. NHL had a blast he helped JL to dig out the driveway and one of the cars to start. Every so often the little guy wanted me to drag him up and down the street in his sled. Since it was so easy to pull I was nice and gave him several rides.

Eventually I went into the house to get the keys for the car so JL could move the cars and clean more of the driveway. At almost 1:00 NHL came in for soup and JL followed about 30 minutes later. He finished one of the cars and went back out at 4:40 tonight to finish the other car and rake the roof. We already have two ice damns that have formed. We are just hoping that we do not have a repeat performance from last year where one of them let water in and it leaked throughout the house. *sigh*

Here are some photos from earlier today.

The cars are all uncovered now and we are going to sleep well (especially JL) from all of the fresh air. Tomorrow should be interesting for everyone after two days home.
