Results are in . . . sort of.

Here’s an update on my 3 hour glucose test from yesterday.

The nurse in the morning said she would call me back when she had the results (this was at 9:40). At 2:30 this afternoon I had no call back and was angry about it. I asked JL to call the office to see what he could find out. With going back to school Monday I need to know if I have to get an appointment with a specialist or not. The nurse immediately took his call. She told him that she didn’t call since she needed one of the doctors to go over the results since values were high. She said they would get back to me Monday. I went crazy and insisted to know more. I wanted my numbers. So DH was sweet after listening to me rant and called them back.

Not long after this the nurse called me back. She said she was sorry about the communication mess up. Apparently she told JL something wrong. I didn’t technically fail the test. Only one of my values was elevated above the cut off (the 2 hour mark – and the numbers were fishy), but she needs a doctor to weigh in on what they want to do.

I told her that I vaguely recall that it was the 2 hour mark last time that I didn’t make it by and said they may want to look at those past results to see. She said they would call me Monday and let me know what the plan of action is with the doctors.

As I told her I’m going to be even more careful than I have been with my diet. I do eat more carbohydrates than I should (since they don’t make me sick), but I don’t eat straight sugar after fasting like that. If I have a bagel it’s a whole grain one and I put low sugar PB on it for protein most times. In addition to this we always do whole grain pasta with LOTS of veggies, and high fiber whole grain breads. Since my mother is diabetic (and so is JL’s) we are very careful.

On that note I am off to try to relax and take care of NHL who apparently now thinks that you need to get sick when people come here from Buffalo and not just when we go to Buffalo. His temperature is rising and was 100.6 just now. . . so I gave him motrin and will see what happens.

Waiting for results. . .

Yesterday I went and took the 3 hour glucose test. The actual test wasn’t as bad as I remembered from when I had to take it with NHL. I really think the new glucola helps a lot. Still I was pretty shaky and queasy right in the middle of the test. This time I was able to read and concentrate more than I could when I took it 3 years ago.

I have bad feelings about the test though and don’t expect to get good news when I call in a little while. I know it’s not the end of the world to have GD, it’s just another PITA thing to have to deal with. Why couldn’t the rest of this pregnancy just be calm? After the whole Downs Syndrome scare I think it’s the least that should happen, but why would there ever be a dull moment?

Oh well. I will post later on when I have the official word. It may be much later since I will likely be crying. Plus, NHL is home today trying to rest up (he’s really congested) for a big weekend with my brother and SIL. He’s SO excited to see Uncle I and Aunt M. Now I’m just hoping that the Buffalo jinx isn’t spreading to when the people from Buffalo come here.

*sigh* – 1 hour test results

Yesterday morning I went to take my 1 hour glucose test and had my regular OB visit. The little guy was extremely active thanks to the vile amounts of sugar that I had to consume for the test.

I was told to call my OBs office this morning to get the results. When I was pregnant with NHL in 2003 I failed by 3 points and had to do the horrible 3 hour test (those memories are still VERY fresh). This time I asked if I could just skip the 1 hour and go to the 3 since a lot of people who fail the 1 hour do fine with the 3 hour. I didn’t want to have to deal with both tests. They wouldn’t allow me to, but told me I could do the testing about a week early so it was over my vacation to allow time in case I needed the 3 hour test.

So this morning I called to get the results. The receptionist told me that nobody had seen the paperwork yet, but it wasn’t good news for me. She told me that my number was 153 and their cut off is 140. I broke into hysterics on the phone with her. I’m so ticked off since it means another time to fast (and feel lousy)- this time from midnight to almost noon. I already told JL that I will not go to this alone, so he will take the day off to go with me. It’s a good thing he worked Monday and has the day to use now. Now I’m waiting for the nurse to call me back with the official word and to tell me what if any options I have.

I HATE this house!

Last night was miserable (as noted in prior blog entries).

At 2:00 I woke up and was having horrible hot flashes (in a 62 degree house). While awake I got a cramp from hell in my ankle/arch of my foot that wouldn’t die. I was in tears crying from it. Then I was hungry and couldn’t breathe again. I had some cereal and finally at 4:30 I used my inhaler again. This caused my heart to race, but eventually I was breathing well and fell asleep.

Prior to falling asleep I told JL that I heard water dripping in our bedroom. Did he listen to me. Not really . . . . GRRRR! Last year we woke up to flooding in our bedroom and bathroom one morning thanks to ice damns that had formed at the bottom of our roof. We knew that we had them again, but were hoping it wouldn’t do anything this year.

No such luck. I was just heading back to bed to rest for a little while (3-4 hours of sleep isn’t a lot). I get in there and I look up in the spot that had water last year and sure enough there are water droplets. I lost it! I can’t stop crying and am SO angry. JL is heading to Home Depot to see if he can buy a ladder to get up and break the ice damns on both sides of the house. Meanwhile he has a small bucket catching water up in the attic where he was able to see it coming in. *sigh*

Thank goodness the in-laws canceled their visit in today. I could not deal with that. As it is other people do not understnad about this mess and keep telling us to call roofers. It isn’t the roof, we need more insulation to stop the damns from forming. And last time when we didn’t know what the leaking was from we called a TON of roofers and not one ever called us back in the emergency situation.

Now I need to get through this day of “fun” just to have my 1 hour glucose test in the morning.

Since I can’t sleep and now think I may not want the inhaler I’m doing this. Please note it’s 4:00 in the morning.

Welcome to the 2007 edition of getting to know your friends.

What you are supposed to do is copy (not forward) this entire email and paste it into a new one.

Change all the answers so they apply to you and then send this to a whole bunch of people, including the person who sent it to you. The idea is that you will learn a lot of little things about your friends that you probably didn’t know already.
