Baby Food Exploration

As a food connoisseur for more years than I would like to admit, it is fun to watch my children learn to appreciate different foods/tastes. I had forgotten how interesting it is to watch the face of a baby trying new culinary delights for the first time. At almost ten months old JSL has been quickly adding new items to his repertoire. We try to gradually add in new items, but lately he has been eating what we have most evenings.

JL and I enjoy watching JSL smile and coo as he tries something for the first time. He almost always gobbles it down without a fight. You know, basically not being like big brother NHL. Sad thing, NHL used to be the same way, but in recent months he has become  –  well you know what I mean!

Here are some photos of my little guy enjoying some new foods.

JSL approves of taco "meat" with Morning Star burger crumbles, red kidney beans and corn.

Taco face

Messy and proud of it

Yes, I know I am cute!

As you can see he thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Mexico for our own version of Tacos. Of course a tub was required soon after to clean up the little guy from the mess that resulted.

A day or so later JSL was able to try egg (just the yolk) for the first time. He was like a vacuum with this once he realized it was something to eat. I have never seen him eat something this quickly.

Give me that food Mom

Hmmmm. . . . .

Testing it out

Gobbling it up

Next time we will definitely have to make him two egg yolks since they were gone so quickly. Then on Friday night he showed us that he is a carnivore. The little guy really loved ground turkey. Since he liked it so much we then gave him more with the sauce, chick peas, and corn. . . plus brown rice. He LOVED it.

See food?

There's rice and turkey where?

There is nothing like a baby with a shiny food speckled face to make you smile!

4 Year old Ramblings

As we battle keeping the nine month old’s temperature down it is time to pause and note some 4 year old funnies!

____________________________________________________________

Earlier today while at Nana and Papa’s house playing, NHL had the following conversation with Daddy. Set up – his kitchen playset was out and all of the food from it was spilled out on the floor.

Thinking that he was being clever JL told NHL –> You better put the food away before it spoils

NHL then asked  –> What is spoiled

JL –> That is when food goes bad and you have to throw it out.

NHL –> But Daddy, this isn’t real food it’s stuffed food!

____________________________________________________________

Fast forward to potty time just a few minutes ago. The two boys had yet another intelectual conversation.

NHL –> Daddy what do you need a penis for?

JL –> Mommy do you want to field this one?

Me –> What one?

JL –> NHL asked why he needs a penis.

Me (half asleep, but still the science teacher at heart, simply said) –> Boys need it to pee.

That satisfied the quest for more information . . . at least for now. Mind you since he is a boy, and boys are always fascinated with their parts I am sure more "fun" questions will be coming soon.

More of an update about the little guy and our latest visit to the doctor later. Plus fun photos from our visit with Cousin S and Aunt M!!!

Knitting Lessons after 10 pm = bad news

After running a million errands with the boys this evening (BJ’s Joanns, Target), Madame Squishy Yarn Guru came over. She arrived here at about 9:00 when NHL was already asleep. JSL quickly got cranky, so JL went to get him to sleep in our room (they are now both hogging the entire bed).

Anyway, we were chatting about the fabrics that I had bought for several projects that she has graciously agreed to do on her wonderful sewing machine (Thanks L you are the BESTEST. . . can you tell I am punchy and tired?).  After quite a while it dawned on me – hello dork the Guru is here and you did not ask her to show you the good way to cast on. So I flew to my yarn stash got the Homer Simpson yellow and a set of knitting needles.

Let the comedy of errors begin!

Note to those that knit, teach others to knit, or want to learn to knit –> Do NOT try to learn to do things when lacking in the sleep department, especially after 10 at night.

We seriously could not figure out how to do things.   Wait my hand goes where?   Are you sure that is right?   Where should the yarn go?   Wait is it over and under . . . or over and under?

We were in hysterics laughing several times. At one point the needle slipped in my hand and I almost took my own eye out. Coordination with knitting needles apparently is not there after a certain time of day with me. Thanks to this incident we were both laughing at having to wake sleeping hubby up to tell him we were off to the ER from a knitting needle mishap. Could you just imagine the look of the faces of the people at triage in the ER for that one? "No seriously, I was just knitting and well . . . ooops!"

Doing the Figure 8 cast on is really not that hard. I just could not get my head to figure out where Laura’s hands were compared to mine, and I was confusing her in return (it’s catchy I tell you). It really was pathetic how we just could not figure out what we were both doing wrong (much more on my end). Then finally the Guru did something and the lights were on and finally somebody in my brain was home.

Yes, I actually got it!!!! So, with any luck tomorrow (or should I say later today since it is technically after midnight now) I will finish NHL’s camouflage scarf and begin the Homer Simpson washcloth for JL.

On that note I best be off to get some sleep since I am amazed I am able to type at all. Hopefully I can locate a space in our bed because the almost 9 month old in our room is a space hog in beds.

** Please remember I am WAY to tired to be typing this now, but wanted to do it because I may block it out in the morning ;)
