Wordless Wednesday – Kermit and company

I just spent the last few hours looking at photos from the last year. The first year of JSL’s little life has now come and gone. It seems like yesterday when I was VERY pregnant and upset that the little guy did not listen to my eviction notice. Here I am just eight days before my life changed forever.
The day before JSL was born was Mother’s Day last year. It was a lazy day where I rested a lot and was not feeling the best. The next morning I got out of bed and before I was able to stand all the way up I heard a loud pop and ran to the bathroom. I recalled this from almost four years earlier when it happened with NHL. I calmly went back to the bedroom and woke JL up to tell him the news. The rest of the story can be seen here.
It is so hard to believe that my baby is one. I am not ready for this and am in denial. Yet as I sit here looking through all of the memories of JSL’s first year I know it is true. I have tears in my eyes because I flash back to February, a horrible month that almost stole my baby from me.
Here are some photos from each month of JSL’s 1st year.

Happy 1st birthday JSL – we are so blessed to have you in our lives. Always know that Mommy loves her snuggle puppy and can not wait to continue to watch you grow (just stop doing it so quickly – PLEASE).
There are days that I wish I could read JSL’s mind. What does he think of the giant world around him? What exactly are those little blue eyes looking at?
In just a few short hours we will be having JSL’s 1st birthday party with our family. I can only imagine what he will be thinking with everyone at Nana and Papa’s house. Will be love or hate the attention? Is he going to enjoy frosting for the first time? So many firsts all in one day for a little guy who has not seen the world for an entire year.
As I sit here the day before Mother’s Day I have tears running down my cheek thinking about the year that has gone by.
A year ago I sat so horribly uncomfortable waiting for my little guy to arrive. He ignored all of the notices to vacate and came on his own schedule. JL and I tried to cherish the last moments with NHL before he became a big brother.
On Mother’s Day last year I had no idea what the following 24 hours would bring. I was exhausted that day and quite uncomfortable. My body must have known something was going on and made sure I took a long nap. JL brought NHL to the park and had an amazing time there while I caught up on sleep. It was a very lazy day, but a great one none the less.
The following morning I had the surprise of my life as my water broke standing up getting out of bed. The sound of the pop sent chills down my spine. I knew I was going to be a mommy again and was so thrilled to know I would soon meet my new little fellow.
Over the next few days I am going to try to gather things to showcase JSL’s 1st year before he officially turns one on Wednesday.
Happy Mother’s Day to everyone – have a wonderful special day!
Just the other day I was looking at NHL’s baby photos. I mentioned to JL that I still recalled the day that he fell asleep mid-bite of baby food in his highchair. We both laughed and thought it was not likely to happen to JSL.
Monday early afternoon I was shocked with the following sequence of events.
At about 11:30 JSL and I sat down at the dining room table to have lunch. He had a cream cheese sandwich (his new favorite) and was quite content. As I was eating my lunch he was babbling away to me. Suddenly I looked a little closer because he was not talking as loudly. Sure enough his eyes were completely closed. He was still talking and shoving sandwich into his face.
I could not believe my eyes and continued to watch. I was afraid to walk by him to get my camera for fear of disturbing him. The poor little guy was obviously exhausted and needed rest before going to get big brother from school. I finally was able to retrieve my camera. This is a shot of his hand soon after he dropped a piece of his lunch onto the tray.
Not too long after this I watched as he was trying to get more comfortable. First he tried this:
Slowly his head moved down onto his shoulder as he was curling up into a good position. I know if I slept like this I would have a stiff neck for day. How about you?
This must not have been the most ideal spot because soon enough he shifted to this pose.
He stayed like this until I had to clean him off and pack him up to go and pick up NHL from school. Who knew that life as a baby could be such tough work. I guess growth spurts and teething take a LOT out of you.
My mother and I both share something in common. Both of us lived at the house when we were little. We both played in the same backyard as children and were shaded by the same trusty tree. Over the years tree’s growth took off. In recent years the tree was starting to cause some problems. The roots from this big monster were ruining not only the driveway, but were also causing issue with the garage (already in rough shape from another tree falling on it).
Last year my parent’s neighbors put in a pool and asked my parents if they ever thought about taking the tree down. For them it was a nuisance thanks to allowing almost no sun in their yard, and also dumping stuff in their pool. They all agreed it was good to look into options before nature decided when the tree would come down on a house and injure someone.
Last Thursday at 7:30 the all day project of removing the giant tree took place. Unfortunately, I was not able to get there for photos of it before they started. I arrived at about 1:30 in the afternoon with the boys.
When we arrived my father took us to the yard to see what they had already done. They were just taking wood to the front so it was safe to look at from the neighbor’s driveway. Here is what we saw.
Papa held NHL’s hand since he was a little nervous of all of the noises coming from the other side of the house.
NHL was not too impressed. He did not realize how long they had been working. The four year old child’s mind did not stare like I did at the 60+ year old tree. I stood there recalling days past being shaded by the tree while on the swings with my friends, or getting dizzy on our spinning machine. As a pale child that tree saved me from many a sun burns!
Soon it was time to go back inside to see Nana.
Inside the house we were also able to see what was making the noise outside. This is the machine that was guilty of making our ears ring.
NHL, JSL and I stayed for a few hours to wait and see the remaining part of the tree come down. With each big "thump" in the backyard we knew it was getting closer. It was amazing to see how they were able to maneuver big machines and trucks into the tiny yards. This is one that was needed again in the end of the process.
While the boys did not really seem to care what was going, my mother, father and I kept going to watch the events. The boys and Whiskers (their cockatoo) were more interested in other things.
And this is the birdy:
Finally, after quite some time we heard and felt a final thump and the entire tree was gone. The tree was officially gone and this is all that was left.
Sad to see such a big part of our family go, yet glad to see it go safely without problems.
