NHL gets his own baby

In an effort to help NHL to try to understand the reality of how life is going to change when his little brother is born, we signed up for a Sibling Class at our local hospital. This class is specifically for kids that are 2-5. During the time they are asked to bring a doll or special stuffed friend. We took this opportunity last night to give NHL his very own baby boy doll. His reaction was really cute. He finally named his baby “Harry” thanks to Harry and the Bucket Full of Dinosaurs. Last night we tucked both boys into NHL’s bed and told NHL to take care of his baby. This morning they woke up and came into our bed. NHL promptly asked for his baby’s bottle to feed him since he was hungry. I know things won’t go quite as smoothly with the real baby, but it’s a start. Below are some photos from last night. I will update later after the hospital class and tour.

A Crazy Week

Ugh! What a few days. This was the longest week that just didn’t to want to end. The days at school are getting longer by the week. I never worked when I was this pregnant last time, so it’s all new to me.

Sleep hardly is in my vocabulary thanks to swelling from the day and now shin pain in addition to the other pregnancy aches and pains. *sigh* And if one more person says to me that it’s the body’s way of getting you ready for a new baby I will strangle them!

Yesterday my father FINALLY went to see the doctor. My brother, mother, sister-in-law, JL and I have been bothering him for several weeks now to get checked since his BP was horribly high. I can’t even tell you how many years it has been since he’s gone – we won’t go there. Anyway, he went to the doctor yesterday and it wasn’t good news. The doctor didn’t like the sound of his heart and ordered an EKG. The EKG showed something that apparently made the doctor think that dad had previously had a heart attack. So now he’s on a bunch of medicines and has an appointment to see the cardiologist.

The new excitement happened tonight. JL called and was a few blocks away. I went outside to wait to move the car. Well, 10 minutes went by and no boys. I finally called them on the phone. JL was sitting on the side of the road stopped by a police officer. Apparently he didn’t come to a complete stop at a 4 way stop sign and got nailed. This is the first time that JL has ever been pulled over . . . no less gotten a ticket. So JL is going to traffic court to see if he can get the ticket reduced. He told the officer about it being the first time and that he may have rolled through without a complete stop since NHL was in the back seat sobbing that he had to go potty. Nothing like a 3 year old screaming that he needs to poop to make ya move.

This weekend is going to be filled with Passover cleaning and preparing galore. Fun, fun, fun!!!

On that note I am off to elevate my poor feet and try to make them stop hurting.

My “kosher” kid!

Yesterday morning we took my parents and went to a pancake breakfast that was a fundraiser for the students that I teach. It was a wonderful experience. The kids really worked and I believe they learned a lot and it was a great team building experience.

Of course NHL loved all of the attention the girls gave him. He thought it was great, especially the bacon that JL and I allowed him to have. He’s so used to the soy stuff we weren’t too sure what he would think. Oh well, he wasn’t following a kosher diet anyway at nursery school, so he’ll live! Here’s a photo of NHL showing off his bacon:

After that we went back to the rents house where my little brother, Uncle I was waiting for us. A traumatic event followed where poor NHL had to wash his hand that had a boo-boo bandaid on it and it fell off. I head him from the other room and knew it was related to the bandaid. Well he was in full hysterics. JL and NHL came into the room where we were all sitting and Whiskers (cockatoo) screamed and made Noah go off the deep-end. So NHL actually asked to rest on the floor with daddy since he was tired. Here’s a photo of the sleeping boys:

On that note I am off to get ready. Uncle I and Aunt M are coming over soon and we need to all get dressed and clean up a little around here.

Today’s almost OB visit & ultrasound

Friday I will be 32 weeks into this pregnancy. They scheduled me 2 weeks ago for a sizing ultrasound and OB appointment. At that time they told me that I HAD to see one of the doctors in the group since it’s been way too long since I’ve seen them (not my fault). At 2:50 I was in homeroom with my students and my cell phone rang. Sure enough it was my OB’s office calling to tell me that the doctor I was going to see was off at the hospital for a delivery, but to come for the ultrasound.

So I went in for the ultrasound at 3:30. The technician confirmed what I thought, the little guy is head down (now at least). I had a feeling about this since I always feels hiccups way low – talk about a strange feeling. Considering my due date of May 18th he is measuring in the 52nd percentile, which is about 8 days big for the date. He’s approximately 4lbs3oz, which is nothing too alarming there. With NHL I was always measuring 2 weeks ahead by ultrasound, and sure enough my water broke at 38 weeks. . . go figure! Mind you ultrasound sizing at this point is far from an exact science, so it will be interesting to see if they let me go past 38 weeks given NHL was as large as I will be able to birth, and he was only 7lbs10oz.

After the ultrasound I went to reschedule my appointment. They told me just to come in tomorrow after work. I told them I would be there by 3:30. I have an appointment with the one doctor I really like – the one that was out delivering 2 weeks ago. If she can’t see me, then there is another doctor there.

Other than that things are going pretty well. Lack of sleep is the norm and I’m exhausted after a full day of teaching. NHL has been really cute lately. Every day when JL picks him up from nursery school he asks if the baby is here yet. Sometimes he’ll ask me in the morning and then look at me and say “Oh, guess not!” This morning as I was leaving for work he asked me if I was going to the “baby hospital” – LOL! I told him no and he was very disappointed. Can you say he’s in for the shock of his life when this little guy invades his world?!?!

I will update anything big that happens at my appointment tomorrow.

NHL’s Full Moon

Only moments before JL and I were getting NHL ready for bed, he was falling asleep on the floor while JL was talking to Aunt J (JL’s sister who just got home with her 2nd little boy). Suddenly as JL was taking his pants off to get his PJs on the little weirdo took off. There was a full moon in our living room!

NHL was crazy and suddenly awake. The first thing he did was grab his Monsters Inc hat and started to run around. JL followed him into his bedroom where he continued to run around and laugh hysterically. All of this while protectively covering the “family jewels” with one hand.

Here is NHL after he ran into his room. Note where the hand is – JL was in tears laughing at how protective he was:

Cornered on his bed to finish getting into PJs:

Clearly NHL had other plans:

You have to love this age for all of the laughs and adventures!
