ROAR says the lion hat

JSL is going to be two in just over a month. For as long as we can remember he has loved wearing hats. If he finds a winter hat in the middle of the summer he puts it on and goes around chanting "hat" over and over again. His love of hats goes even further. He always notices hats on characters. Super Grover’s hat has become a favorite, along with the one on Goofy.

We have not bought JSL a birthday gift yet. Since we will be in Disney World for his big day, we figured we would look for something there. Talk about a hat paradise. We know that there will be plenty of items to pick from that he will love. Whether he wants Goofy ears, Mickey Ears, or any of the other items that Disney now makes they will be there.

The other night JSL found a hat that NHL received at nursery school. Once he placed it on his head he immediately became a lion. Here is my little lion in action:

So my question to you. Do you have any suggestions on where to get more fun hats just in case he does not end up loving the items at Disney World? We would love to have different ones for imaginary play.

Exercising up a storm

This week I have really been kicking it into high gear with my work outs. I feel energized after I do them, and really want to be in better shape when we head to Disney World. I know that although I may not be close to my goal weight, I will be able to walk more while at Disney and keep up my energy levels.

This week I have "walked" 19.5 miles since Sunday, not including today. All of this has been by using one of my Leslie Sansone walk at home DVDs. Here is the week in review.

Sunday (3 miles) – While the boys went outside to play I did my new 3 Mile Weight Loss Walk. It is a "power walk" DVD and uses handweights. It is a fast paced 45 minute work out that really works all your muscles, strengthens your core, and makes you sweat!

3 Mile Weight Loss Walk

Monday (5 miles) – I felt ambitious while the little guy was napping. I put in the 5 Mile Fat Burning Walk. This DVD includes five 12 minute miles that get your heart pumping, your body moving and fat blasted (73 minutes total). It went by really quickly and I felt energized. My only complaint is that I should have stopped to retie my sneaker. Apparently it was rubbing my poor foot the wrong way. I was limping thanks to a blister trying to form.

5 Mile Fat Burning Walk

Tuesday (3.5 miles) – JSL was up and did not want to nap. Mistake #1 I tried to do the 30 Day Shred first.  I just can not do that in our little space and if I do try it again need to figure out what I can do to replace Jillian’s love for push ups. With my wrist injury those are just not possible. The plan was to do the DVD from Sunday and do two of the fast second mile for a total of 4 miles. I started the DVD after about eight minutes of the Shred. The little guy let me get into the start of the fast 2nd mile when he started to flip out. One thing I can not do is walk with Leslie Sansone with a 22 month old on my shins. So I stopped cold turkey and put JSL down for a nap. Once he was asleep I put in the DVD from Monday and did 2 miles with that.

Wednesday (5 miles) – I wanted to target some different muscles. With JSL watching me the entire 82 minutes, I did the entire 5 Day Slim Down DVD. Mile 1 is the Classic Walk, Mile 2 Sculpts your arms, Mile 3 Slims your legs (psycho squats and lunges galore), Mile 4 Trim you tummy with lots of focus on the core, and Mile 5 speed walk. I felt very wobbly after mile 3 thanks to the intensity of the moves, but pushed on. Let me tell you, Thursday I was feeling the burn. My arms, legs and shoulders ached, but in a good sort of way.

5 Day Slim Down

Thursday (3 miles) –  The boys were kicked out of the house to play outside with JL so I could do the Walk Away Your Waistline DVD (48 minutes). I opted to use the Walk Belt and it helped to stretch my arm muscles from the aches that I had from the previous day.

Leslie Sansone - Walk at Home

Today – Not sure what I am going to do yet. Since it is already late, I will probably opt for a quick 3 mile walk. I am also excited to check out the new Leslie Sansone DVDs that are being released at Target. They come with boosters that can be used. There is one in particular that I have my eye on.

So what have you been up to this week in the world of exercise?

Grilling Goodness – Take 9

GoldenGoodness

1. Did you learn anything new this week? – I learned that often times when companies ask you to watch a program for a survey that it is NOT what you expect. This one was definitely a "trick" for an ad campaign, not for the show. *sigh*

2. Will you wear green on St. Patty’s Day or do you not give a hoot?? – When I was teaching I got into the spirit and would wear a green shirt and put on St. Patty’s Day socks. Not sure what I will do this year.

3. Do you wash clothes throughout the week or only on a specific day? – I do it a few times a week so there is never too much waiting. Used to do it once a week and that was too much, especially in the winter with bulky clothing.

4. What is one of the most popular ‘spams’ you get in your junk email inbox? – Lots of Twitter Spammer follows – Ugh!

5. Are you where you want to be? (you decide the meaning of the question for your answer) Given the way the world is right now, I really can not complain. I have a house, hubby has a job, the boys are happy and healthy. Eventually I want other things, but they will hopefully come down the line.

6. Do you know how to swim? – Yes, I took swim lessons for years when I was growing up. I was very close to becoming a Life Guard, but had issues with the chlorine and my skin.

7. Do you take trips with your girlfriends? – No, I never have. I was hoping to try for one this summer, especially since I am probably not going to BlogHer.

8. What was your favorite purchase this week? (big or small) – Found a neat new item to take on the airplane for the kids. It is the Aquadoodle – My First Coloring Activity with Sesame Street. Looks really cute for JSL to use to "color" while going to Disney World. Similar to this.

Head over to Golden Goodness to play along!

Disney dining plans

Bright and early this morning, I sat with my paper plan for meals while we are at Disney World. I actually felt butterflies since I was nervous about not getting things. Seriously, it was just like the way I felt before an exam when in school.

At 7:00 I dialed the number and immediately talked to a person at Disney dining. There were a few little glitches, but I expected one of them. Here is the plan right now

  • Chef Mickey – Great character meal for the night of our arrival.
  • 50’s Prime Time Cafe – Fun meal for the entire family. Hubby and the boys have never been here before, but I remember my father being scolded for not eating his veggies when I was little.
  • Boma – We have heard amazing things about this and are looking forward to it.
  • The Wave – A quick switch landed us here. We had wanted to go to Spoodles, but for some reason nothing was available that week. We suspect it may be closed or being refurbished.
  • Coral Reef – Should be fun for the boys to watch the fish in the tank while eating. Have fond memories of this place from my childhood.
  • Crystal Palace – Character meal with Pooh and friends for JSL’s 2nd birthday.
  • Le Cellier – Took the one and ONLY time they had a table for six available for dinner during our entire stay. Loved this place and ate there twice on our honeymoon. Back then it was easy to get a reservation there, my how times have changed!

Now we are debating if we should make breakfast reservations. Contenders are Ohana’s (Lilo & Stitch), Cape May Cafe, Tusker House (Donald Duck) or something else. Since the boys will be staying up later, it probably is not the best plan. We also have to weigh in the cost and whether we want to have a buffet before going into the heat for a day at the parks.

Crafty creations

It has been a stressful week here in Angel Land. Some of the culprits include:

  • Room parent phone calls – Managed to get people to bring in napins, cups and juice. Nobody wants to do cupcakes, so it looks like I shall do that next week to send in on Friday.
  • Bird fiasco on Wednesday – So many things I wanted to get done were not able to get accomplished since I was waiting for return phone calls.
  • NHL’s allergies have been out of control – I feel helpless and wish there was something more I can do for him. Several medicine changes have been made and we are hoping one of them works. So afraid of another Singulair situation taking control of my child.
  • Finalizing plans for Disney World – The only reason this was slightly stressful was thanks to Disney not posting their hours in a timely fashion. This weekend we are able to make our dining reservations, so today/tomorrow we will finalize those items.

Thanks to all of this, I was exhausted at night and never did anything special for my 2 year Blogoversary. Oh well, I can figure that out for next week perhaps. Hmmm. . . . .

When the boys are in bed I have been knitting again. It is something that is mindless and works well to take my attention away from the stress at hand. Of course, I have been stuck making the same knitted cloth for a while. I now have well over 25 of them (need a cloth anyone?). Here are a few:

Lots of colors

One of these days I will break out of my shell and make something different. For now these are quick and easy and satisfy my need for knitting. I may try a pair of mittens soon, my friend is supposed to give me a great pattern to try on straight needles.

So here is my question to you this week:

What type of craft activity do you like to do? When did you start doing this and why do you enjoy it?
