A Duh Moment of the Teething Kind

I feel horrible.

Why?

Well, for once it was not from the lack of sleep from two little bed hogs boys taking turns being up ALL night. No, it was not from all four of us in our queen sized bed for several never ending long hours in the early morning. Nor does it have to do with fighting off a cold and not being able to take anything thanks to nursing. Nope, not one of these items mentioned is the reason I am feeling horrible and guilty.

This is from being a "dink" and not reading the signs and helping poor innocent JSL. I was just nursing him and he was really miserable. Something caught my eye in his mouth, so I fought with him to look inside.

Staring me in the face, on the top next to the two front top chompers, were little points on both sides just poking through. The poor baby has had signs the last week, but I was in denial since he just cut the other ones. Every single classic teething symptom that some doctors deny were there (thank goodness our dentist is a believer in them). He had the telltale gross "fun" diapers, rear end rash, restless at night, stuffy nose, excess saliva, didn’t want to eat solids, and was super clingy to me.

I should have known and not been in denial. I could have given the poor kid something to help him sleep at night instead of trying simple and useless binky therapy. At least I know now and can help him out and snuggle him if that is what he wants. I need to learn to savor these moments more:

C’est Fini!!!

I finally did it!   No, not that. . . I do have two little boys after all ;)

What you ask?

I finished my first knitting project in over 20 years. On Tuesday night I decided to be a little adventurous and try to bind-off JSL’s scarf by myself. I did it with a quick IM tutoring session from my favorite Squishy Yarn Guru. I went off and accomplished it. Below is scarf almost ready to keep JSL warm.

C'est Fini!

And here is a close up of the end that I finished alone (not too shabby if I do say so):

The End!

Now the only thing left to do is weave in the ends and wrap it around JSL’s neck to keep him warm. He seemed to like it when I did a test run. He enjoyed eating petting it. Meanwhile as I was taking photos of the scarf my little guy was playing with his food. Here is a different sort of view of the scene.

Birds eye view

Please note the static in his hair – ugh winter stinks even for babies in the frizz department!

New Project Alert!

Since Laura is not feeling well (feel better Madame Guru), she sent me to a website to try to reteach myself how to purl (it’s been WAY over 20 years since I tried that). After some swearing under my breath trouble at first, I finally got it going thanks to the video. Later at night I mentioned to Laura that I was having problem with the knit row, after purling. She said something was obviously wrong. So I watched again and figured out that I was wrapping the yarn in the wrong direction. Since it is SO subtle (you really have to look and follow the stripes to see the mistake) I opted to just keep knitting. Purling is getting easier, but it is more awkward and easier to drop a stitch if you are right handed.

Here is the start of my first wash cloth that I am making for myself (thus the reason I am not redoing the tiny ooops). Mistake not seen here since I started the correction afterward.

Pretty side of purling practice

And here is the other side: Other side of purling practice

So off I go to do a few things while the little guy is napping.

Then and Now – MEME

I was tagged by Renee over at Life With My Special K’s for the Then and Now MEME. It seemed like fun so here is mine to show just how much my two little guys have grown in a short amount of time.

This is NHL "Then and Now":

NHL Then . . . August 2003

 NHL Now . . . January 2007

This is JSL "Then and Now":

JSL Then . . . May 2007

It really is hard to believe how quickly they grow. . . makes me so glad that I am home this year to really watch JSL during this time.

I now tag:

He’s on his feet – ACK!

So much for taking things slow. JSL seems to be in a hurry to grow up. He is just eight month old and already giving us a run for our money. When he and I are home during the day he does not want to sit and play. He often will baby bitch complain until I give him my hands to use to stand up. Then he is happy and dances. He has also learned that he can move his feet underneath to get places. This is very intriguing to him. The other night he and JL were playing. JSL wanted to let go of Daddy’s hands, so JL did it. The little monkey stayed up for a while. They kept doing this for quite some time. JSL thinks it is hilarious to stand and then crash onto his bottom or fly into Daddy’s arms.

This morning he wanted to do it again. This time I grabbed my camera to get photos. Below are pictures of JSL, the next generation of Chipendale, strutting his stuff.

First Daddy must help the little guy to get steady on his feet. This gets more difficult later on when he is laughing and wiggling too much. Please note the cute, chubby baby thighs (sad how it is acceptable and adored at this age).

The kid wants to be on his feet

Now JSL gets very serious and even a little annoyed with the peanut gallery making too much noise. He really was trying to concentrate at this point.

Major concentration going on

He is now in the zone and ready to go!

OK Dad . . . ready . . . set. . .

Look Ma . . . no hands!!!!!

No Hands!

No, he was not standing long, but he was up. We knew we were in trouble before, but this solidifies that is is coming soon – ACK!
