A week ago Friday, I received a phone call from my father. He was on his way to my grandmother’s house because she fell down over another person’s wheelchair. 911 had to be called because she could not get up and was in a great deal of pain. After many tests, they were able to rule out several things. After a CAT scan, they found a double pelvic fracture. Mimi was in the hospital until mid last week. At that point, she was doing well enough to be transferred to a facility for rehab. She actually ended up going to the same home that my grandfather had been in for many years.
On Friday, the boys and I went to the home to see Mimi. When we arrived in her room, JSL clammed up. He stopped talking, would not look at people and was shaking. He had never been there before. NHL had actually been in the same room with Poppy S, but he was so little he would not remember it.
We stayed for a short time and then left to let Mimi rest. The next day, it was beautiful and we met Mimi outside for some air. Once again, we noted that JSL did the same thing. When he was near the wheelchair and Mimi, he was skittish at best. When he walked with Aunt S to her car for something, he perked up. Then, as he came closer to us, he stopped again. We talked with him about how Mimi was there to help her get better. In two year old terms, we told him that Mimi fell down and had a boo-boo that needed to get better by staying there. NHL had done something similar with Poppy S when he was in his wheelchair when NHL was about this age.
When we decided to go back to visit Sunday afternoon, we took a bag of tricks with us. We figured if JSL had some toys, he may be more comfortable. Here are both of the kids wearing their animal backpacks in to visit Mimi.
It worked like magic. JSL was so excited to show Mimi his items that he was not nervous. He ran around, sang and even danced with NHL. NHL was singing Michael Jackson songs from his concert a few weeks ago. Here are both of the boys and Crush having some fun:
Then, it was time to say goodbye to Mimi and do some Passover shopping. Here’s to wishing Mimi a speedy recovery. The boys are looking forward to playing at her apartment when she goes back home.
The first day of spring does not always give us nice weather in New York state. This year we were lucky, it was absolutely gorgeous on Saturday. We woke up and turned on the weather channel. We saw that it was going to be 65 degrees and sunny. We tossed sweatshirts on the boys to head to the post office quickly. After that, we went right to the park. It was time to let the boys run and get some energy out.
The boys were so excited to take off to the slides. Once we got there, both boys were climbing and sliding up a storm. Much to my shock, the little monkey was trying to do everything on his own – oy! We continued to another section of the park and TechyDad noticed that the buds on the trees were out. Check it out:
The boys went on a variety of other items while full of smiles and laughing along the way.
Then, it was time to go on the swings. We stayed here for quite a while. Neither of the kids wanted to go.
While I was busy sending out Twitpics, my phone started to ring. It was Papa and he was at the park. The boys loved seeing Papa and dragged him around.
I was even able to get a photo of them all together on top of the rock climbing area.
By this time, we were all getting too warm with our sweatshirts on. We noted that it was warmer here on this first day of spring than most of our trip to Disney World in February.
The boys played a little while longer before we decided it was time to head home. Kisses were given to Papa as he went back to his house. The only way we got them to go was to promise a trip to see Mimi and ride on their bikes later. All of these were done and many more pictures taken.
So have you been able to enjoy any spring weather where you are?
Of course, I know that even here the weather can easily get chilly again. No doubt, more cool temperatures will come before we thaw out completely for the spring.

A rough day for TechyDad. Went in to ENT for a sore throat, ear pain and bloody noses that will not end. Had to have his nose cauterized (more about it on his post –> A shocking experience) – not a happy camper tonight. All plugged up and miserable from the procedure. I love you and hope that this solves the problem so you can breathe easier in the long run.

Dear JSL,
Tuesday was a big day for you. That was the evening you finished up the antibiotic for your strep throat. It was also the night that things changed forever in your little world.During the day, I noticed that a binky you had was chewed through. I did not know where another one was and told you it was broken. Little did you know that I was preparing you for something big. When it was time for bed we told you your binky was "broken" and there were no others in the house. It was time and we knew you were ready.
Much to my surprise, you only cried for a little while. When I was able to calm you down, I reminded you that it was your last binky and it was broken. You repeated the information back to me. I asked if you wanted your back patted to fall asleep. It took a while for you to quietly settle. For quite some time you simply looked at me and sulked.
When you woke up in the morning you asked for your "baby" right away. We told you it was broken and all gone. You wimped, but with a little diversion you were good. Several more times you mentioned it. I asked you if you wanted to go to the toy store to get a bye-bye binky toy. You said yes. When I asked what you wanted, you told me a Winne the Pooh toy.
Who knew that getting something with Winnie the Pooh would be so tricky? We went to four stores and then finally went to Toys R Us and found something. You were SO happy!
When NHL got out of school you proudly showed him your bye-bye binky presents. Now of course, we are going to work on a bye-bye diapers! I know you are ready and I am willing to deal with more laundry if need be. You are growing up so quickly, but you will always be my baby.
Love,
Mommy
