Childhood Pets

We do not have any pets at our house. Thanks to severe cat and dog allergies, and a small house, we are pretty limited. Growing up, we had pet birds, some hamsters (Hammy and Fluffy had many hamster babies), and countless fish. At one point, we had eight feathered friends living in our house. We had the following members of our family:

  • 4 cockatiels – Pretty Boy, Baby, Cinnamon and Wild Thing
  • 2 Parakeets – Teddy and Ninja
  • 2 cockatoos – Whiskers and Moose
Now, only one of the birds remains at my parents house. This is Whiskers watching the boys play the other day.
    She's Watching You
Over time she has gotten used to listening to them and will even chatter with the boys when she is in a good mood. Whiskers has been in our family for a long time. We got her when I was in middle school. She is a multi-generation pet to say the least.
    My question for you today:

What pets, if any, did you have as a child? Do you have any pets in your house now?

Tuesday Tales – Mid-Winter Break

Tuesday Tales

Kids in a lot of the country have mid-winter break this week. Both of my boys are home. Thanks to this, we are trying to figure out things to do to keep busy during the day (my writing work gets pushed to the night). We will be going to the local library to play, read, and catch up with some friends. Of course, when the boys are busy playing games I try to catch a few pages of the book I am currently reading. Yes, I am actually reading a book and not listening to it. It has been a while, but this one is oh so worth it. Here is a preview:

Friendship Bread

More coming soon about Friendship Bread – along with some places to go for delicious recipes. This book has been a quick and is making me crave the friendship bread that my mother made years ago when I was in elementary school. Hmmm…..

On that note I am off to do some crafts, play games, read books, and spend time with my boys.

So what have you read recently? Please be sure to link up to your Tuesday Tales, Book Posts, and/or leave a comment below. Include something you read on your own, with a child or someone else. Tuesday Tales are all about spreading the love for books.

Disclosure:I received an advanced copy of Friendship Bread by Darien Gee (aka Mia King) to facilitate an upcoming review. No other compensation was given and all current and future views are 100% mine.

Disney Princess Power

My house is filled with everything Disney, but we lack Princess items. As the mother of two little boys, I am the queen of our castle. Of course, the kids know all of the Disney Princesses. Disney Princess Power

We actually have a lunch planned for this trip at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot. I figured it would be nice to do while they are young enough to think that princess power is cool. So, we will be able to dine, visit, and take photos with Belle, Jasmine, Aurora, and other members of Disney Royalty. I think it will be fun because it is something new to me. It will be nice to have a special meal with some Disney girls – like my bibliophile, French speaking, hairy beast loving Belle.

So my question to you this week:

Who is your favorite Disney Princess and why? If you are not a fan of them, what other character do you like and why?

Disney Social Media Moms Celebration 2011

I'm Going: Social Media Moms Celebration

A little over a year ago, I traveled to Disney World to take part in my first blogging conference. For some reason I was not nervous. Unlike my trip to BlogHer, a few months later in NYC, I was at ease going to a location that I knew and loved. What could be more magical than going to meet new people, learn new things, and play with my family at Disney World? The answer, being able to go again in 2011.

DisneySMMoms 2010

Yes, in a few weeks I will be heading back to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at Walt Disney World. I feel so lucky to be able to go and experience the magic of this conference. The best part for me is not having to worry about my family. While I am taking part in the events for conference attendees, I know that my husband and boys will be having an adventure in one of the Disney parks.

Disney Dreaming of the Magical Express

Today will be a busy work day for me. Yes, I said work. I have to get a lot of items done for the April edition of KidsFunPlaza magazine. I must admit, it is tricky writing about Spring when there there are mounds of snow outside of the house. Still, I am confident that it can and will get accomplished. Being a work at home mother, I am also tackling loads of laundry at the same time. Boy do flannel sheets take up a lot of space.

Of course, there may be some Disney day dreaming taking place. You see this arrived in the mail yesterday:

Magical Mail Arrived

Yes, the reality of heading to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration is become more real each and every day. Please insert some fun Disney music here.

If you are heading to DisneySMMoms, please link up. I would love to check in and “meet” you before the conference.
