I’m not old!

Last night JL was changing JSL’s diaper, so I took NHL to the bathroom before bed. We were chatting along the way. Here’s our conversation:

Me: “Wow, NHL you are going to be 4 tomorrow, you are SO old!”

NHL: “No, Mommy I’m not old, I’ll be old when I’m 20.”   (He was very matter of fact)

Me: “So 20 is old is it?”

NHL: “Yes, 20 is old and 21 older.”

Me: “You’re right NHL. Wow, if 20 is old then how old is daddy?”

NHL: “He’s VERY old. He’s thirty!”

(Me trying not to laugh hysterically at the way he said it)

Me: “NHL he’s actually 32 now, what do you think of that?”

NHL: “Very old!”

At about this time JL comes with JSL and sees us laughing in the bathroom – kind of a strange sight .. . -er well in other households maybe.

It goes to show once again that kids say the darndest things!

4 years ago tonight .. .

I was in the hospital in labor. At about 9:00 that Saturday night I was sitting on the couch reading the new Harry Potter book while Pretty Woman was on the television. JL was working on his website. I was half reading since I figured I had 2 more weeks to read before the baby was born. I guess NHL had other plans. I got up to stretch and felt a pop and a gush.

Yup, you guessed it…my water broke. JL said he’s never seen a pregnant woman run so fast.

I flew into the bathroom and he followed me there to see what was going on. He called the doctor’s number and they instructed us to head to the hospital. Once I got there I was only about 1 cm dilated and my water had indeed broken. My parents met us there and were so excited since it was the birth of their first grandchild. At about this time (11:00) everyone left and JL and I were told to walk around to see if it would help my contractions to come more regularly.

Unfortunately this did nothing so I was told to rest and see how things were in the morning before they did more. I opted for no medicine at that point.

In the morning they checked and I had made no progress. I was told I had to have pitocin since my water broke and the risk of infection increased with time. So silly me opted not to have an epiduralright away. BIG mistake that I didn’t make with JSL.

The pitocin was started at about 6:30 and by 10:00 I wanted the epidural. The contraction were horrid thanks to the medication making them worse. They finally found someone to come (another woman couldn’t have it anymore). Thanks to the epidural they were able to crank up the pitocin. Within 40 minutes to an hour I was finally progressing. 10 minutes after they checked me I felt pressure and the urge to push. They didn’t believe me, but looked. Sure enough I was 10 centimeters (from 3) dilated and ready to roll.

Little did I know, but the doctor didn’t think I would be able to push the baby out. I sure showed him. In less than an hour at 1:17 in the afternoon on August 17th NHL was born.

A look down memory lane:

Ah, the memories. Now my little NHL is a big boy and going to be 4 tomorrow. Here’s a photo of him now (please excuse the cookie face):

But it isn’t big mommy!

Ah, we all know that kids say the darnedest things. Tonight almost 4 year old NHL did just that and I got a good laugh from his child logic.

After nursing JSL I told JL that I had to go to the store to get ice cream cones to make cup cake cones for NHL to take to school for his birthday Friday. NHL decided that he wanted to go with me. So we got shoes on and went to the car.

On the way to the car I asked NHL what he wanted for his birthday from us. I reminded him that he already got the soccer net earlier so he could use it. Here is our conversation:

NHL (Quickly thinking about it and then blurts out): “I want a camera mommy!”

Me: “We can’t get you a camera NHL. Mommy and Daddy already got you a big present, we we’re going to get you something small.”

Without missing a beat I get the following response

NHL: “But Mommy the camera is small!”

So how do you reason with a basically 4 year old little boy that it isn’t the size of the present that matters, but the cost. I didn’t really. He kept repeating the camera idea.

So, he’ll be disappointment Friday, but will be VERY happy next Sunday at his party when Bubbe and Grandpa give him his own digital camera like Daddy.

He is going to be in heaven.

Weekend updates and photos

The weekends just seem to fly by. Friday night we were going to head out to dinner for JL’s birthday. Unfortunately, the weather nixed those plans. We stayed home and went to the Chinese take out place and brought things home. At night I let JL watch things on the DVR that were waiting for him while I worked on things for my online courses.

Yesterday was filled with errands. In the morning we went to the ATM, library, to get gas (where we saw my parents), BJ’s, Target, and the grocery store. We also took NHL to the playground of his new school to play for a little while. No camera was present, so no photos :(

Recently NHL has been waking up a lot at night. We think his nightmares are directly related to events from the chin incident and fear of the unknown in his future. He’s very upset about leaving the daycare center/nursery school that he has been at for 3 years now. He likes the idea of the new school, but change is hard, especially for an almost 4 year old. Last night he was up at least 2 times. Once JL had to go in and settle him down after a trip to the bathroom. Amazingly JSL slept through all of this.

NHL woke up this morning and JSL was starting to fuss. He wasn’t awake so we left him. About 15 minutes later I went to look since I didn’t hear him. Here’s a photos of what I found (remember he’s a tummy sleeper):

He was just doing baby exercises and when we went in there he was “chatting” up a storm. The cutest part is when we said Hi JSL and he responded back with a sweet little “Hi” very clearly. Remember he won’t be 3 months old until next Monday.

Here’s a photo of NHL on the floor of the “Boys room” playing:

We did the breakfast thing, JL made cookies for a birthday gift and NHL got ready to head out with Nana and Papa. I managed to get both of the boys dressed. JSL is in a new outfit that he got. It’s a 3-6 month size that I thought would be huge since 0-3 still fit him. Boy was I wrong. NHL really approved of it since it has dinosaurs. Here are a few shots of my two little boys.

JSL with bib and NHL with a goofy grin:

JSL with the hat that goes with the outfit (kinda large don’t ya think?):

And last but not least a photo of all 3 of my boys including the 30-something one:

Now JSL is sleeping, NHL is out with Nana and Papa, and JL is using his new electric hedge trimmer to reclaim the area outside our house. Those darn trees and things grow too darn fast.

I am going to try to get some of my computer things done while everyone is doing something else.

Rolling down the bed hills!

The subject is yet another song that JL and I made up last night. You sing it to the tune of “Rolling Down the Sand hills” by The Wiggles. It was in reference to NHL rolling all over his bed at night lately. Here is proof that he is doing it. These photos were taken within a 2-3 hour span of time.

Here’s the first capture. JL went in there since I heard him hit the wall. We had never seen this new spot before. Comfy – NOT!

Later on I found him down a little in a slightly more comfortable pose:

He seemed to want to adapt to “Rolling up the bed hill” for this one:

You just never know where you will find NHL lately. Mind you his little brother is doing similar tricks already in his Pack N’ Play.

And the kicker this morning he let us know he was awake by squeaking his buddy that makes noise so we could check on him.
