Wii have big boy back in school!

What? You mean the Wii and NHL going back to school do not have anything to do with each other? Oh well, I guess these were just nice photos of NHL and Daddy playing with the Wii prior to the flu invading our house.  I claim still not feeling 100% for my cheesy title. After a week of two boys home and one of them so sick, I am thrilled to have things back to our so called normal status.

So now onto some completely unrelated Wii photos. The boys have a great time using the Wii, especially when they do a quick bowling game before bed. Here they are a few weeks ago. It is so much fun to watch them play. NHL gets so excited when he knocks down pins, especially when it is more than JL. He is a quick study too. He has figured out how to toss a wicked curve on his ball and how to control the speed of his throw. Not too shabby!

Now onto the Wii (be sure to hover over the photos to see captions):

Up and ready for his turn

Sitting down to watch Daddy's turn

 Trying to patiently wait

 Even JSL has fun watching

Starting to get tired before bed

JL already called to report that drop off at school went really well. NHL was excited to see his teacher and ran into the room. Hopefully the rest of the day goes well. With any luck JSL and I will head out on a few important errands in a little while. No rest for the mommy!

Get Snow & Give Thanks

Please note that the getting snow and giving thanks have NADA to do with one another. Sure I may have the flu and have been stuck at home with a sick child all week, but I am not that delusional!

Now that that is cleared up here are some photos from outside just minutes ago.

Memo to Mother Nature. . .

 it is SPRING!!!!

Clearly someone did NOT get the memo that it is SPRING already. Hello – stop with the cold, snow, ice, and other non-spring precipitation and weather patterns. Sickies are done with this garbage and have put it out on the curb with the rest of the trash that went out last night.

Thanks for letting me vent!

Now onto the good stuff. I would like to send out some thanks for some packages that arrived here this week from giveaways that I won.

First up is MissAKit:

 Prize from ~~All Day Night~~

I won this from Candi at ~~All Day Night~~ as her entry in the Ultimate Blog Party.  Thank you so much Candi – I love it and it will come in handy in my diaper bag for emergency Mommy situations! The Ultimate Blog Party was so much fun. I was lucky enough to find Candi’s blog and am now a daily reader. She is the Mommy of two little boys who are very close in age to my little guys. Stop over and say hello to Candi when you have some time.

Yesterday as the boys were getting antsy another package came. Inside was my giveaway from Momsational: I had won a set of fair trade Peruvian Finger Puppets from Inca Kids. They are absolutely amazing. I can not believe that people and not machines knitted these little guys. Here are a few photos so you can check them out.

Thank you again to both ~~All Night Day~~ and Momsational for the fun giveaways!!

Oh and please tell the snow to GO AWAY and take the sickies with you.

Fevers, coughs, nebulizers and the flu – oh my!

As previously mentioned we had several doctor visits on Monday. This is how NHL looked on Monday before going to the doctor.  He was exhausted from being up almost all night (two evenings in a row) with a horrible barking, croupy cough that would not go away.

In a zone, but will not sleep

Things were worse Monday night. NHL was gasping for air. JL went to work and NHL fell asleep on the couch from sheer exhaustion.

One sick and tired little boy

The poor little guy could not catch a break. Every time he would fall asleep he would wake up coughing that dry barking cough again and again. At about noon he was in tears asking to leave. He said he hurt from the cough. His entire body was shaking and he was gasping for air. I put in a call for the doctor since the breathing was getting so bad and Motrin and Tylenol together were barely keeping his fever under 100 when given together.

While waiting for the call back JSL was quarantined to another room with me (not worth much, but it was all I could do). He was having fun playing with his Nubby sippy cup. All of the sudden he started "talking" to me. I was floored. It was not simply play time. . . he was drinking water. I could see him doing the proper sipping motion and see water in his mouth. Wahoo! This was a much needed thing since the baby will NOT take a bottle since he was in the hospital in February. So now he knows that the sippy cup is not only a fun water toy to get soaked with, but also useful to drink! Another milestone during this was JSL saying "cheese" when I fed him a slice of cheese. His words just keep adding up.

 Getting some water in!

At about this time the nurse called back. They were going to call in a nebulizer for us to use with NHL along with medications for it. After much "fun"  (note the sarcasm) straightening out all of the co-pays, getting a pharmacy that actually had the medication we were all set. At about 3:00 the machine was delivered and Papa brought the medicine soon after. Here is the top of the new handy dandy nebulizer.

Dragon mask to make it more interesting

We have used this for the one medication since Tuesday night (2 times a day) and we have started to notice a difference. The barking cough is much less pronounced. NHL is also able to run around and talk without getting winded. The fever still does not want to back down. However we may have turned the corner. Last night we went without replenishing Motrin and Tylenol during the night. So far with only Motrin we have kept things below 100! If this stays true then he will be set to go back to school tomorrow – he is SO ready to go back.

Oh, and NHL is such a sweet little boy. He shared with Mommy. I have a 100+ degree temperature, aches, sore throat, headache, congestion . . . ick! I am taking Motrin and Mucinex for the congestion since that is all I am able to take when nursing. Now we just have to wait and see if the other boys in the house (JL and JSL) get this nasty flu that seems to originate at the school that NHL goes to.

With any luck the rest of the day will fly by and JL will be home so I can go back to BED!

Weekend Party Mini-Vacation – Part 3 The Party!

After checking out of the hotel we went to to my SIL’s house to let the kids play and celebrate Cousin A’s 4th birthday and Cousin S’s 1st birthday. We arrived at practically the same time as Bubbe and Grandpa (JL’s parents). They gave our boys presents outside. Then suddenly the fire department showed up. I kid you not, the entire department with trucks came to the party. Apparently they tried to call Aunt J, but did not get them. The fire alarm in their house was going off from the steam of Uncle J’s shower. Ooops!

Below are some photos of the party (sans the one from yesterday of JSL skirt chasing little S.)

NHL sporting his pirate gear. He was flying around the house with cousin A playing pirates.

Ahoy there Captain NHL

JSL had a nice time visiting with Grandpa. Later on Grandpa really made him happy by feeding him some potato chips.

Getting a close look at Grandpa

Bonding with Grandpa and potato chips

Are you talking to me?

Both boys had fun playing with new and exciting toys.

Play time!

Trying to get away

A frightening scene was caught that I do not recall in Peter Pan.

Darn crocodile! At Cousin S's 1st and Cousin A's 4th B-day party.

NHL did not seem bothered by it.

H-O-N-K!

Finally it was time to eat. Bubbe and Grandpa brought bagels and lox. Check out the cool bagels for the kids in honor of St. Patricks Day.

Do you see a problem here?

After a yummy lunch it was time for cake. Aunt J made them herself. The Pirate was for Cousin A’s 4th birthday and Mickey Mouse for Cousin S’s 1st birthday.

The cakes made by Aunt J

NHL and JSL both enjoyed the cakes.

NHL loved the cake

Mickey ears taste yummy!

As you can see even Cousin S enjoyed his 1st birthday cake!

1st B-day cake mash!

After the cake we cleaned up the kids and opened up presents. Then it was time to head off for our adventure home. Thankfully both of the boys fell asleep in the car and woke up when we were close to home.

Weekend Party Mini-Vacation – Part 2

Saturday morning we all woke up from a rough night at the hotel. Thanks to nightmares, teething , and dreams of swarming ladybugs we slept in . . . at least for us. JL and I tossed on clothes while NHL and JSL stayed in pajamas to head down to the complimentary breakfast. The boys went down ahead of me so I could get myself set. By the time I was in the lobby NHL had already sat down and was chowing down.

Chow time!

After JSL’s seat was ready Daddy went to make the little guy a waffle.

Enough with the photos already - feed me!

JL making food for JSL

Finally his food was ready, so JSL checked it out and played with it for a little while.

Inspecting the waffles

When everyone was done with breakfast we went back up to the room. It was finally time to fulfill our promise of swimming in the hotel pool to NHL. JL and NHL put their swimsuits on and JSL and I went down to the pool to watch and take photos.

Here is JSL watching Daddy and Big Brother in the pool.

Mr. Serious watching everyone in the pool

NHL had a blast in the pool. He did not want to come out when it was time to go and get ready to pack up and head to the party. I think we now know we have to sign him up for swim lessons this spring and/or summer. Not only is it good for him to know how to do, it will be great for his muscles too.

Getting ready to go into the pool

Swim time with Daddy

NHL loved the pool

After an hour in the pool it was time to head back up to the room. We packed up, checked out of the hotel and were on our way to a 1st and 4th birthday party for Cousin S and A.

A special Wordless Wednesday coming tomorrow from the party photos and then the final post from our mini-vacation with photos from the Mickey Mouse and Pirate Party.
