The Face Says It All

Dear JSL,

What a week it has been. There has been so much going on that the time seemed to fly at certain points. Do you know what the following items all have it common?

  • Spring break
  • April showers
  • Passover Seders
  • Hunger strikes
  • Lots of family time
  • Laundry from sickness
  • Making big decisions
  • Rain, Rain, Rain
  • Pajama days
  • Disney DVD central

Any ideas? Well, when we look back at the past week, I think these items pretty much sum things up. It was Spring break, there were so many April showers that plans to play outside were almost always canceled. The Passover Seders were not only time spent with lots of family, but when your hunger strike of sorts started. No JSL, you can not live on potato chips and matzoh balls! Oh and the matzah and cream cheese at Nana and Papa’s house – the same we have. If you can eat it there, it will work at our house too.

Thanks to refusing to eat almost anything, you made yourself very sick all over my bed. That was also a day of really big, hard decisions for me. Did I mention that it rained, and rained, and rained? While stuck inside we sported pajamas and watched a bunch of Disney DVDs. You and NHL are now fans of Robin Hood.

The sun actually came out yesterday. While outside at Nana and Papa’s house, you made a face. It pretty much summed up the way I was feeling.

The Face Says It All

Thank you for making me laugh and smile – I needed that!

Love,

Mommy

Daffodil Days

Right before Passover started on Monday, JSL and I went to pick up a few things at the library. JSL stopped to check out what will soon be their butterfly garden. Last year, he loved watching the butterflies fluttering around in the beautiful and colorful area.

Some gorgeous yellow flowers caught my eye and made me stop. I had to take photos:

Dreaming of Daffodils

Yes, these gorgeous daffodils made me smile. I am not sure why, but daffodils have become a recent favorite of mine. We planted some a few years ago. They were amazing – until the neighborhood bunny family yanked them out of the group by the bulbs. Goodbye daffodils. I keep saying that I need to buy some daffodil and tulip bulbs to plant, but I never do. Guess I need to get on that one of these years.

So my question to you this week is inspired by these daffodils:

What has been your favorite floral find this spring and why?

Passover Seder Aftermath

Monday and Tuesday night were late nights for our family. Yes, TechyDad and I are typically up working late – but the kids are asleep for many of those hours. For some reason midnight seemed a lot later when both boys were still up and running around.

We had a wonderful time at Aunt S and Uncle M’s house for both of the Seders. Extended family were in town to help celebrate and remember the traditions of Pesach. Thank you Aunt S and Uncle M for including us and giving our boys fabulous memories of Passover Seders.

Views from Seder 2

There is so much to write about, but right now I am on Mom duty. Both boys are home for Spring Break and the little guy woke up feeling a bit off. Poor kid is miserable and I have laundry to work on thanks to it. Not sure if he is sick, or just so exhausted he is getting sick (not eating isn’t helping either). So if I am scarce for a few days, no need to send in the troops – just taking care of the family and trying to get everyone back on track while limited to Passover foods.

If you have any suggestions on things to feed an almost four year old that refuses to eat Passover food – I would love them.

Nursery School Passover Seder 2011

Dear JSL,

This week you had a big celebration at nursery school. Your class and the others, have been working to prepare a special Passover Seder for families to come and celebrate. When I arrived the room was all set. Everyone had a Seder plate set in front of their seat along with a Haggadah. The front of the room was also beautifully arranged with a giant display for the holiday.

Passover Seder Time

Everyone participated in the Seder – kids, teachers, parents, and other family members. I brought the video camera and can not wait to see how some of the songs came out. You were still nervous about being in front of everyone, but I did see you singing the four questions a few times. When you came over to me, you were adorable.

Greeting me at the table

It was fun sitting together. We followed along with the Haggadah.

Following in the Haggadah

Then when the time came, you surprised me with your frog puppet

Mr. 4 eyed frog

I still wonder what plague got the frog since he has four eyes.  Of course you were not interested in eating the delicious kugel they made.

Amazing matzah kugel

You kept chowing down matzah and cream cheese. I have a feeling a lot of that is in your future next week.

Want some matzah?

Thank you again for sharing this special time with me. I loved being there with you and watching your love of Passover and our holiday shine.

Love,

Mommy

Adventures in Sandwich Land

This weekend, we went Passover food shopping. One of our stops was the Honest Weight Food Co-op since they had a Passover bulk nut/dried fruit sale. We bought some almonds and cashews for next week. Then, on the way out – something caught my eye. In the prepared food area they had sandwiches. Within a few seconds, we were both almost drooling at the food in front of us.

Since it was almost lunch time, TechyDad and I decided to splurge. We bought two sandwiches to split. Here they are:

Delicious Vegetarian Sandwiches

They were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Seriously, I have been craving another since we had them on Sunday. So what were they? Here are the descriptions:

  • Cheese Sandwich: veganaise, cheese (munster, swiss or provolone), lettuce, spinach, carrots, peppers, cucumber, onion and sprouts on sourdough bread
  • Fakin BLT Sandwich: veganaise, lettuce, smoked tempeh strips, tomato and sprouts on sourdough bread
My Aloha Friday question is inspired by the delicious experience we had this weekend.

If you could have any sandwich for your next lunch, what would you pick and why? It could be one that you make yourself, or buy at a store or restaurant.
