My Neverland Pirate Days

I love pulling out old photos of Disney trips gone by to share with the boys. Disney has always been a part of my life. My parents took me to Disney World long before I can actually remember. One of the first trips that I recall is when I was just six years old. We stayed at the Contemporary Resort with family friends.

Recently I found two photos from spring/summer 1983 that really caught JSL’s attention. You see my little guy is a BIG fan of Jake and the Neverland Pirates, new Disney Junior show. Both of the boys are anxious to have their photos taken with Captain Hook and Smee. So, imagine the look on his face when I showed the boys some old school photos of me with those characters.

The outfits in the photos, especially the River Country Donald Duck shirt really date these. Just some of the memories I have and can not wait to make more with my family.

So my question for you this week:

If you had the opportunity, which Disney character would you love to have your photo taken with? If you want to share why, I would love to know.

Yarn Art Fun

It is no secret that I have a lot of yarn scraps in storage from my knitting. I often wonder what to do with them and how to let the boys have some fun. Over February break, the boys and I were stuck at home thanks to a storm. The boys wanted to do an art project.

Thanks to their request, I started to look around the house for ideas. I found some construction paper and noticed my yarn. I quickly thought of something, so I went and gathered Elmer’s glue, scissors, and my scraps of cotton yarn. I had a mission and the boys were ready to be creative. First I cut lots of yarn into smaller pieces for all of us to use with our project.

Lots of Yarn

Everyone picked out a sheet of construction paper. Then the boys made squiggles of the glue on the paper.

Ready to create

After this, it was time to create our masterpieces. Here are some photos of the boys with their work in progress:

Creating Yarn Art

I watched as the boys picked their yarn and placed them into the glue. Then I got an idea to make something for TechyDad. Here are our creations below. JSL’s is the top, NHL’s is in the middle, and mine on the bottom.

Our First Projects

The boys really enjoyed this, but got sticky from the glue and eventually lost interest. Of course, I had an idea and wanted to do another picture. As I started working on it, NHL came over to help me get colors to use within my work.

My Rainbow Picture

The papers looked really great after they dried. The white glue disappeared and we were able to hang them up. I know that we will definitely be doing this again, and I have another item that I hope to try with yarn art soon.

Do you have any ideas on how to use scrap yarn with kids for crafts? If you do, I would love to hear about your projects. Please be sure to share them below in the comments.

Vacation Dining

Just after we rang in 2011, I joined Weight Watchers online. My last weigh in was Sunday and I have lost a total of 17 pounds. Not too shabby given the lack of major exercise other than shoveling snow. If you follow my Tweets, I have hinted about weight loss and counting points. Up until now, I have not felt the need to post about it since I am not dieting as much as getting back into a healthy lifestyle mode. Several blogging friends are also on this journey with me and I love that we have each other to talk to.

I have had success using Weight Watchers in the past. Before we went to Disney World in May 2009, I lost 30 pounds. The summer came and I stopped counting points, kept the weight off and then got VERY sick with H1N1. Even before this, I unofficially did Weight Watchers. When NHL was almost almost one, I lost almost 70 pounds and was pretty much at my goal. Going back to work, life stresses, a second pregnancy, and nursing slowly pushed my weight back to where it was after NHL was born.

Now I am back on track and hoping to increase my exercise level as the weather get nicer. Of course, we are going to the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration soon. I do not have to tell you that the food there last year was amazing. Let’s be honest, the food at Walt Disney World is some of the best food I have ever had. Here I am in 1983 eating with some characters you may recognize.

DisneyDining in 1983

On our trip in May 2009, I stopped Weight Watchers while at Disney. Thanks to walking over 20,000 steps a day – I ended up losing weight eating what I wanted. My plan for this trip is to do the same. This is my vacation and I am going to enjoy dinner at Boma, breakfast at The Crystal Palace, a slice of Pop Century’s Tie Dye cheesecake, and other items if I want it.

So my question for you this week:

What is your favorite vacation dining experience and why?

He’s Going to Disney World

Lately our family has sunny and warm Florida on our mind. More specifically, Orlando is the target location. Narrowing it down even further to Walt Disney World. Yesterday, while spending some time playing at Nana and Papa’s house, JSL asked to go on my old Tony Pony. He told me he had to go quickly because he needed to get to Disney World now.

Yes, my three year old planned on Riding Tony Pony to Disney World and kept yelling “Yee Haaa Boy!” The best part was JSL let me record some of his ride to Disney World. He’s a bit hard to hear thanks to Whiskers the cockatoo in the background and the noise from Tony Pony. Still, I think you will see that he has a plan all set for when he arrives at Disney World.

This reminds me, I do not think I ever had my kids counted on The Disney Driven Life. I think I need to take care of this ASAP since it is pretty clear they are hooked.

A Magical Morning Moment

It’s official, there is magic in the air in our house. This morning, both of the boys woke up and started to talk while resting in bed. As I sat in my room, I could hear my kiddos chatting away. They were laughing, making plans, and debating with each other over favorites.

What were they talking about?!

Our upcoming trip to Disney World! It seems that the visit is now quite real to the boys. Once out of bed, JSL ran into tell us that his favorite part of the Winnie the Pooh ride is when we bounce like Tigger. Then he started to quiz us about eating with characters.

Those dreams do come true

My excitement comes in watching NHL and JSL. It helps to ease my fears about missing something when I pack, or not planning just the right meal. I know that no matter what, the boys will have a fantastic time and keep them wishing for another trip soon.

Of course, I am excited not only about our family time at Disney World, but about the second Disney Social Media Moms Celebration that I will be attending. Seeing good friends, meeting new ones, learning mountains of information, and doing all of this at Disney World. There truly is nothing better as far as I am concerned.

I am also looking forward to seeing several of my Disney Driven Life friends. It should be a lot of fun to catch up with them now that I am a part of the team.

On Tuesday, my latest post was published. Please stop by my EduMICKation post for this week: Geography Disney Style.

On that note, I should probably start to write some lists of things that I need to take on our next adventure to Orlando. Please let me know if you will be there, I would love to know.
