Late weekend review (10-5 to 10-7)

Last week NHL stayed home on Friday to go with us to Simchat Torah services. He was so excited to go and dance with all of the Torahs. Talk about a tired little boy. He hardly sat down. He paraded around with his stuffed Torah making sure that everyone stopped to kiss it. He was too cute.

This is a photo of the boys in their Polo shirts that someone from my school gave them:

Later on we we able to get both of the boys to nap. Here’s how I found JSL in his crib (note one hand is missing):

Where the rest of him was during the nap

Here’s where we found the other hand:

That was also JSL’s second day using his new Fisher Price small high chair that we got. It’s great since it saves space and goes right onto the chair. He loved being able to sit with us and see what we were doing. Plus thanks to the tray he could easily manipulate toys from hand to hand.

 Second time in new chair

While JSL was busy with all of his goodies, NHL was hard at work on a computer. He was busy making a card for our neighbor’s birthday party the following day (note the extreme concentration on his face)

The following day it was REALLY warm. Who knew we could get to temperatures in the high 80’s here this time of year? Well, we did. That morning before NHL went to a birthday party next door the boys were all playing on the floor. It was so sweet. I asked if I could get a hand shot of all three of them together. Here is what I captured.

JL took NHL to the party. Since it was SO warm JSL and I came back to where we had lots of fans and the AC running. I did three loads of laundry while playing with the little guy. Here he is sitting in his "thinking swing" and grabbing his newly found foot.

 Got one foot

Next it was time for a little buddy chewing to help those teething gums.

And then Mommy wanted to get a photo of JSL in the cute little onesie that Nana and Papa gave him before he outgrows it. Please note he has his feet again!

 I got my feet!

Later on that night Daddy gave JSL his first piggy back ride way up high. Here are a few photos from that milestone.

That night our friends came over to order dinner in, talk, see the boys, and play Wii for the first time. It was a fun night. Sunday we ran errands and noticed that NHL wasn’t feeling so great. This was the first that we noticed he was getting a cold. As noted in other entries it was just a warning of the illness to come.

The weekend was a long one for NHL thanks to the holiday. Both boys were home with me for Columbus Day while JL went to work. NHL really wasn’t feeling well. By that night he had a low grade fever and had to stay home the next day requiring the important meeting with the school district to be done on the phone. C’est la vie with kids.

Cool FREE photo editing website

JL was reading a computer geek magazine and found a website for FREE photo editing. It’s called Picnik and is really neat. Right now you can use their premium features for free to try for a week. Here are some of the things that I just created quickly. You can pull right from Flickr or other photo sharing websites and save right back to them.

This photo was the first that I played (original is here). First I got rid of the red eye on JSL. Then I added a caption bubble. After that I put text into the box. The last thing I did was round frame around it. Here is what it looked like when I was done:

YUMMY caterpillar tastes good - 2

Next I took a photo of JL and JSL and played even more with it (original is here). Once again I started with red eye reduction on both boys (funny it wasn’t needed with what followed) and cropped it. Then I found the infrared camera effect. And the last step was to put the picture on a poloroid frame and add the text. Here’s what it looks like:

Yummy - infrared daddy hair on poloroid

One last one to add in now. Here’s a photo of NHL from the middle of September (original here). I took the photo and used the Focal B&W Effect and then put a Museum Matte frame around it. Here’s the end product:

So check out the website, it’s a lot of fun!

Sleep for the sick and teething

The last few days both boys have been fighting sleep. They don’t want to nap and are restless when they finally go to sleep. Yesterday was particularly bad for JSL. Thanks to teething (I can feel those suckers on the front bottom under the gums) he’s miserable. He wants to nurse often since he can’t nurse long thanks to the pressure and he wants to be held. He didn’t want to sleep. In order to help NHL with something I had to put him in his crib with heavy eyelids. So I put him in and he flipped to his back. I left him like that and put on the noise machine with waves. Here is the end result after a little while.

Tired JSL fell asleep listening to waves

He finally rests for a short time

Today NHL was a basket case. He’s been cooped up in the house since Saturday night, except for a quick trip to the doctor on Wednesday (same here except for 3 other mini-trips to get things at the store or NHL’s new school). He would not listen to me and refused to sleep. After much crying he fell asleep in his bed, had a nightmare and then I carried him to the couch in the living room. Here’s how he is right now:

Poor NHL was SO tired he didn't want to sleep

NHL sleeps after a week home sick

Hopefully something will happen with JSL’s teeth to ease his pain. Mind you I am not looking forward to chompers when nursing, but he’s so miserable. And we’re hoping that NHL can get rid of this fever. The antibiotic seems to be helping his wheezing (along with the other medication he’s taking), but who knows about the ears since he still has a fever. I just know it’s doing a number on his GI system.

New rocking chair

Last Sunday we traveled about 2 1/2 hours each way to help celebrate JL’s grandmother’s 93rd birthday. JL’s parents, sister and her family, aunt, uncle and their three children and all of their kids were there. It was at a really fancy shmancy hotel. Several of his cousin’s had just heard about JSL – not sure how they were never told that I was pregnant, but it happened. I guess that shows how close people are in JL’s family (sad).

We had a nice time visiting with everyone. Grandma had her two children, 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandkids all there to celebrate with her (along with spouses of everyone) and was a little overwhelmed with what was going on. NHL had a blast seeing his cousin AG and JSL enjoyed smiling at everyone. JL took a lot of photos, but I don’t have them to share now. I will update those later.

Uncle D and Aunt R gave JSL a gift for his birth. The day before they went to a craft show and bought him a hand painted rocking chair. It’s gorgeous and both boys will get a lot of use from it. Here are some photos.

Soon after I took these photos of the rocking chair I placed JSL in it for the first time. Here is his reaction:

Next it was time for both of the boys together. Please note how both of them are not able to smile together, but a silly face works.

After that it was time for tacking daddy – or maybe they just wanted to watch the television:

And last but not least my three boys!

Look out apples here we come!

Last night JL made plans without me (*gasp*) to go with some friends to an apple orchard. This morning we decided that we weren’t really up to picking, but wanted to go there to see the place and get some apples (needed Macoun before they are out of season).

So we packed into my van and all went together.

We started off looking at the pumpkins that were able to be bought. We convinced NHL to wait to get one until the end of the visit so we didn’t have to lug it around.

Here’s NHL looking at all of the pumpkins while eating a freshly picked apple that he got with J.

Check out the pumkin with shades on:

While the boys were looking at the pumpkins JSL and I were hanging out in the shade. Here’s a rare photo of the two of us. Seriously I do exist

Next we tried some samples of different types of apples and some peaches that were grown at the orchard (man there are too many different types of apples). We then wandered on to the animal area for NHL to check things out. I will skip photos of the animals (they are on my Flickr feed). Instead some of us being kids.

From here three of the boys went into a corn maze (JL, NHL and J). Here are some photos from that.

From here we went to have lunch. We bought cider donuts to take home and got fresh made ice cream. Yes, that you read that right . . .that is what we all had for lunch. NHL and I had strawberry shortcake flavor and JL had pumpkin pie. After that we went to the store where we bought a lot of Macoun apples and some Honey Crisps (JL likes those) along with corn, honey and NHL’s pumpkin.

Both little guys were tuckered out after the day and went to bed early. One has already been up since he was gagging on drool. Poor little teething monster.
