Snowpacalypse – February 2011

We knew it was not going to be good when the meteorologists in the area refused to disclose information about Wednesday’s weather. They finally started to talk late Monday night. That should have been our first sign to RUN to Florida.

Instead, when I started to hear about the snow fall totals for the area, I started to laugh. And by laugh, I mean hysterical slap stick style laughing. Horrified laughter started as the panic set in.

Why you ask? Well, they are telling us to expect 18-30 inches of snow!

No schools in our immediate area delayed or canceled school. TechyDad took NHL to school this morning, and I brought JSL to nursery school. When I got back home, you could not tell that I had done anything this morning.

This is the pre-Snowpacalype photos of the front and back of the house.

Front before the big storm

Back before the big storm

What you can not see here are the snow piles in the front by the street, and on the side of the house.

Hmmm. . . anyone have a good deal on a snow blower?

No, it won’t help us now. I do think that if we get one it would stop all of the future snow from coming. Well, a girl can dream at least. Now off to figure out if I should go and get the boys from school now instead of later. Oy!

What Love Means to a Child

Red, pink, and all of the hues in-between are all around right now. Tuesday begins the month of love, with Valentine’s Day right in the middle. We do not typically do a lot on this day, but try to do a little something extra for the kids to let them know how much we love them and each other.

What is love?

So what does love mean to a 7 year old boy? I asked this question to NHL and his initial response was that he did not want to answer this question. Hmmm.  . . me thinks he is officially at that point in second grade where things change. Then, when asking his little brother he chimed in: “It means you are dating someone."  Oy, are they already talking about dating people?!

Next, I asked JSL, my 3 year old, what love means to him. His reply is really telling: “It means love”! Of course, he then rattled off a list of random people, places, and things that he loves. Hey wait, was I on that list? Oh that’s right, he said everybody – guess that includes me.

I do believe that boys see things a bit different. To me, love is family, friends, and special memories made with these people. Love it being able to see through the tough times and recall those special moments to keep you going.

Love means letting those that you care about know how much they mean in your world. For me, this could be with a hug, a note to say I’m thinking about them, or a special day together.

How do you tell someone you love them?

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to send someone you love a card to let them know you are thinking of them. Tiny Prints can help you with this. They have Valentine’s Day cards that you can personalize. There are greeting cards, Valentine’s cards for kids, stickers, gift tags, and many other items to pick from.

I See the Light – a la Disney Every Day

My friend Amanda Tinney, from Disney Every Day, is up to it again. She is taking on a new Disney song and putting it into pictures. Just like in the past, the song is broken up line by line. People then submit photos with the lines on it. After this, Amanda does her magic and sets it up to music for the final video.

This time around the song selected is “I See the Light” from Tangled. I just volunteered to do a line again. Here is the photo that I sent Amanda:

And it's warm and real and bright

So what are you waiting for? Head on over to Disney Every Day and sign up for a line. Amanda said there are plenty still available.
