Bounce Time for the Boys

Dear NHL and JSL,

For weeks, we have been trying to take you to a new location to do some bouncing. On Friday, I spent the day getting laundry done while you played. I wanted to have it finished so I could spend the weekend with everyone and not have to worry about getting clothing clean.

When Daddy got home from work, we quickly got into the car and went to Afrim’s. On Friday night, you can bounce from 5-8 for $5. When we got there, there was only one other child. It was a bit warm inside, but that did not stop the two of you.

Ready to bounce

Before we knew it, we were the only people in the bounce area. The two of you ran from bouncer to bouncer. Even though you could not get up one of the slides thanks to a broken part, you used it as a place to run through and bounce in. The space was perfect for the two of you to release a lot of energy.

The Bounce Place Was Ours

One of the bouncers has a small climbing wall and punching spot within it. Both of you really liked this. I was especially shocked with JSL’s monkey climbing skills.

After a while, even Daddy was tired from watching you run, bounce, slide, punch, and climb. Lucky for him, there was a nice comfy couch to rest on.

Tired TechyDad

After about an hour, the two of you looked like tomatoes running around. It was really warm, you were thirsty (we didn’t bring water bottles) and Daddy was hungry. So we packed both of you up and went to get some dinner. I know that we will probably head back to the bounce place, but it may be on a cooler day since it is quite warm in there. Still, even with the heat we all had a great time together.

Love,

Mommy

For the Love of a Fish Fry

Growing up in the northeast, I learned to love our local fish fry haven. I remember going with both sides of the family to this favorite destination. Relatives that were from out of town would actually beg to head to Bob & Ron’s Fish Fry. I would sit there looking up at the sharks on the wall, swivel in my seat, and let time pass.

As a child, I was not originally a fan of the fish fry. Instead, I would get a hamburger or later on clam strips (never said I was kosher as a kid). Then, I realized what I was missing.

Fish Fry Dinners

The other night, we took the boys bowling and wanted a quick and easy dinner since it was late. I pulled out our Entertainment book. I recalled that there was a coupon for Bob and Ron’s Fish Fry. We pulled into the parking lot and memories came flooding back. The menu has hardly changed, even with new owners in recent years.

This was not a healthy meal, but something different, nostalgic, fun, and delicious. Yes, it fun to get photos of my kids swiveling in the same chairs I sat in as a kid.

The boys were mesmerized by the giant sharks on the wall. I could not resist taking a photo when they asked me to capture this moment (even if NHL was being silly).

So my question to you this week:

Do you have a restaurant that you recall from your childhood that you like to revisit now? Why do you still like to head back there?

Super Hero Tutor Needed

Being the mother of two little boys can be a challenge at times. I fully admit, I am not up to speed on my super heroes. As a child of the 80’s, I am well versed in He-Man. While I played with my Cabbage Patch Kids, Care Bears, and Barbies, my younger brother had quite the collection of He-Man toys. Ah, the memories.

My boys are currently into super heroes thanks to TechyDad. When they are not pretending to be pirates or Toy Story/Disney characters, they switch to this other side.  You know, the one that I am not too familiar with. Sure I know the names and can pick them out in a photo, but that is about all.

Hello Super Heroes

I seriously need some tutoring in super heroes and their personalities/powers. Some of the super heroes that I hear about include:

  • Hulk
  • Spiderman
  • Hawkeye
  • Captain America (see JSL’s question from the other day)
  • Thor
  • Iron Man
  • Superman
  • Batman
The other day, while playing at Nana and Papa’s house, the boys had out our old Fisher-Price Construx.

While we used to make cars, buildings, and the like – my boys made something completely different. Check this out:

My Super Heroes

Yes, the creativity was there. NHL made Thor’s hammer and Captain America’s shield. The two of them ran around for quite some time pretending to be the characters from The Avengers.

So where do I start? Are there Cliff Notes for this sort of thing? Seriously, I could certainly use them.

Tuesday Tales – Harry Potter Edition

When the Harry Potter books first came onto the scene, I was in college (September 1997). By the time I had switched from a pharmacy major to education, they were a hit in the United States. I started reading the books around the time that I met TechyDad. When I used to go and visit him in Long Island, they would allow me to have an office with internet and desk to use. Since it was the summer, and I had no “school work”, I caught up on children’s literature.

Harry Potter books were on the menu and I managed to read several of them that summer and caught up to where J.K. Rowling was writing. When I started to teach, I was able to keep up with my middle school student that were into the Harry Potter craze. I still remember the day one of my homeroom kids came in and told me the amazing news. They had just announced a park in Orlando, FL was going to house a land with rides, shops, and more to visit. She had her trip planned and I secretly wished I could go. Hopefully, one day, I will.

Eventually, I’ll read the books with the boys. NHL has even expressed interest in them since the books, ads, and movies are all over the place now. Good thing I won the complete set not too long ago.

Harry Potter

For now, I have amazing memories of reading/watching Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the group grow up and fight HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED. Of course, I have never seen any of the Harry Potter movies in the theater yet. Something always comes up. This past Friday, TechyDad and I finally caught up with the first part of Deathly Hallows. Since that day, I have been having odd dreams that include Voldemort in a different form.

Are you a fan of the Harry Potter books and movies? Which in the series is your favorite and why?

This weekend, I may head out to see the final Harry Potter movie, but there is a small issue. We promised our boys that we would also take them to see another famous character in a movie being released. Here are two fun teasers about that that you have to check out and will make you smile.

And the other short one is here:

What have you read recently? Please be sure to link up to your Book Posts, and/or leave a comment below. Include something you read on your own, with a child or someone else. Tuesday Tales are all about spreading the love for books.
