Sunny Day Blanket

It is no secret that I enjoy knitting. I like to sit down at night after a long day with my knitting needles and a project. For some reason, hearing the clickety-clack helps me to forget the stresses of the days. Of course, watching the yarn morph into something before my eyes is a very nice perk.

I had planned on starting a Log Cabin blanket. I had even talked about sketching it out and bought some yarn.

Log Cabin preparations

I have not actually started working on this. A few factors have delayed it. 1) The knitting needles I need are still finishing up a scarf. 2) The boys were jealous of a baby blanket I made for a gift. 3) Log Cabin will not be stress free and mindless at the start.

The other day there was an amazing yarn sale. Not only were the skeins of yarn on sale, but I could also use a 20% off coupon on top of this already reduced price. One night last week, I went out to the craft store alone. I found the color I wanted, but they did not have enough of it in the lot I needed. Rather than scrap the project, I looked at solid colors to pair up with it for making stripes. This is what I ended up buying.

New yarn for project

I bought 11 skeins of each color since I can always return anything that has not been used. The boys were excited to see a project for the entire family. I allowed myself to start the project last week. Here is a preview of the large diagonal blanket.

Be sure to let me know what project you are working on right now. Always looking for more ideas to add to my list.

Another busy week has come and gone. I thought I would share other places that you can catch up with me.

Fun on a Snow Mountain

Dear NHL and JSL,

This morning, Nana called to invite us over to play outside. Thanks to all of the snow that fell yesterday, they had a plow come to clear their driveway. The result was a monster snow mountain in their backyard. After lunch, we packed up our things and went over to Nana and Papa’s backyard. This picture shows just how tall it was compared to NHL.

Snow mountain almost as tall as NHL

The two of you had SO much fun romping, sledding, digging, and climbing in the snow. Both boys playing in the snow mountain

Here are some shots of NHL:

And some of JSL:

The two of you, and Daddy, had an amazing time playing together and making wonderful memories. I know I will sleep well remembering your laughter tonight. Of course, I may be dreaming of laughter at Disney World in the warmth and not the snow.

Love,

Mommy

Childhood Pets

We do not have any pets at our house. Thanks to severe cat and dog allergies, and a small house, we are pretty limited. Growing up, we had pet birds, some hamsters (Hammy and Fluffy had many hamster babies), and countless fish. At one point, we had eight feathered friends living in our house. We had the following members of our family:

  • 4 cockatiels – Pretty Boy, Baby, Cinnamon and Wild Thing
  • 2 Parakeets – Teddy and Ninja
  • 2 cockatoos – Whiskers and Moose
Now, only one of the birds remains at my parents house. This is Whiskers watching the boys play the other day.
    She's Watching You
Over time she has gotten used to listening to them and will even chatter with the boys when she is in a good mood. Whiskers has been in our family for a long time. We got her when I was in middle school. She is a multi-generation pet to say the least.
    My question for you today:

What pets, if any, did you have as a child? Do you have any pets in your house now?

He’s Going to Disney World

Lately our family has sunny and warm Florida on our mind. More specifically, Orlando is the target location. Narrowing it down even further to Walt Disney World. Yesterday, while spending some time playing at Nana and Papa’s house, JSL asked to go on my old Tony Pony. He told me he had to go quickly because he needed to get to Disney World now.

Yes, my three year old planned on Riding Tony Pony to Disney World and kept yelling “Yee Haaa Boy!” The best part was JSL let me record some of his ride to Disney World. He’s a bit hard to hear thanks to Whiskers the cockatoo in the background and the noise from Tony Pony. Still, I think you will see that he has a plan all set for when he arrives at Disney World.

This reminds me, I do not think I ever had my kids counted on The Disney Driven Life. I think I need to take care of this ASAP since it is pretty clear they are hooked.
